Hasnt there also been a recent WT article about confessing to the elders.
Also the infallibility of the GB (until 'new light' of course)

A bad case of the clap
by expatbrit inback in the uk, i remember that at the baptisms, the audience were told not to applaud until the last candidate had been dunked.
this, we were informed, gave the occassion a proper sense of dignity and decorum.
in general, clapping was restrained at assemblies.

Here in UK they also started clapping after the prayer at the end of the day.
Why? -

curious
by bonnie38 ini wonder what the percentage is of ex-jws who become involved in other organized religions.
i had a discussion with a psychiatrist friend recently.
he told me that i am a "psychiatric anamoly," that most "devout" people who leave a religion will join another and become as devout in their new religion.

Having been fooled for 18 years by the dubs I dont think I will ever trust a religion again.
Those 18 years werent totally wasted I learnt vwell how people can control and manipulate the bible for their own agenda, so how could I ever trust anyone with any religious book again.
I agree with others who have said they follow their own feelings.
Show love and concern for people and look after other creatures and the planet we are on and I dont think you can go far wrong.
We too are shunned as a family yet we are not DA or DF just DIsillusioned. -

Things That NEVER Made Sense To Me:
by Englishman ineven when i was a dyed in the wool jw, there were a few things that never made any sense whatsoever to me.
like most dubs, i glossed over them, here's my top 3 doubts during my period of dubdom, doubts that were never resolved:.
"all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial for teaching".

How about these for the list:
Animal sacrifices
Lot offering his daughter to the mob.
The death of Davids illegitimate child.
I could go on.
OK other groups accept the bible but I only know of the dubs who try and weave a current application to such events as those listed.
I am sure lots of us can remember trying to come up with imaginative fairy stories on the ms. -

Moments That Make Your Skin Crawl.
by Englishman ini thought that it might be fun to have a "my most embarrassing moment" competition.
if the thread takes off, first, second and third places will receive a prize guaranteed to be of no monetary value whatsoever!
so, i've had to give a lot of thought to exactly what was my most embarrassing moment as a jw.. was it as a 12 year old child travelling on the london underground, whilst being forced to wear a label that shouted in lurid purple: "gods kingdom rules!

On a return visit I mistook a man for a woman and said something about "a lady like yourself" and then I suddenly realised my mistake.
I never did that RV again. -

Urban Legends!
by ISP inits amazing the extent these circulate in the wt world.
i am not so sure, but it develops a powerful folklore amongst jws....often with a moral at the end!
typically these circulate as experiences given in talks and are then adopted by the masses as truth.. for example, anyone hear the ul about the married couple where the wife had to have a routine blood check.

Hi Philo
I remember David Carter.
Didnt he used to call the sisters 'petal and flower' or similar.
I remember once at the back of the platform at the assembly during the singing of the song he started messing about by conducting all of us standing there and then walked round and listened with his head close to each one as we were trying to sing this song.
I cant remember if it was the same day but after one of the assemblies within about 10 mins of the final prayer he came down to the laundry room with a bag full of dirty clothes (he was dressed very casually now) and put them into wash without even speaking to us who were working there.
I think he was teamed up with Clive Upton as his CO, chalk and cheese.
At this same venue I remember the UL about the PIO sister and interested male (book bag into water) and the angel standing behind 2 sisters. -

"Sales force of a publishing firm"
by slipnslidemaster inon the topic of death and grieving, i think the tower does a disservice to jws.
witnesses are discouraged from showing genuine grief because it supposably means they don't fully believe the resurrection concept.
what a crock!

Hi venice
We too had the BS at our house.
Our group was made up of a lot of sisters in divided homes so there whereseveral occasions when nobody turned up.
Guess what, we still did the study as a family even though we had studied it together, how sad is that?
We just tried too hard to get it right.
Now we just love the freedom of weekends to choose what to do.
Couldnt ever go to a bootfair they are always Sat and Sun, and I always used to get uptight driving to the Sun morning meeting and passing other people doing normal things and having fun.
It took a long time to loose the guilt on meeting days after we left the org. -

Hang on a sec everyone.
If this picture is for real that individual is a poor deformed person allowed to be that way by our "loving and caring" creator.
He looks as though he has had to exist for about 40-50years looking like that!!
As least as spiritully ugly Jdubs we had the choice to leave. -

WHATS GOING ON?
by anglise inin the last 24 hours i have heard of two instances where the jw parents of disfellowshipped children have been willing and seemingly happy to have association with them ie having them visit and for meals.
both say that there were topics to be avoided during conversation but that it was a major improvement on the way things had been.. in both of these situations the adult children are married to non believers.. is this just a coincidence?.
has there been 'new light'?.

Thanks Prisca
it just seemed bit odd to have 2 together especially as I personally know one the families and the dub parents have always been very much 'society' people and have kept minimal contact with the DF relative until now,
but thanks again for your reply.
