i am a severly disabled adult who receives disability benefits.. i understand sometime ago the watchtower said in one of its magazine(probably watchtower)that a smaller pertentage(sic)of jws claimed the dole in france(this was, i believe during the problems with the french government)as opposed to a higher pertentage(sic)of roman catholic etc etc claiming the dole.. in view of what paul says in one of his letter`he that doesn't work, shall not eat' should jws be claiming the dole if they truly follow the bible.
discuss.. i believe a social security system should provide for the disabled and pensioners.
(i don't think the present uk social security system will survive in its present form with accelerting(sic)costs etc etc)
Hi and welcome to H&D.
I personally know of many dubs who deliberately worked part time so that they could go on the work more during the week and then claimed the many social security benefits ie housing etc.
This is both pubs and pios.
I have often wondered how the public would react to knowing that they were in effect subsidising these people to come and knock on their doors!!

Thanks Ivor it was your post that caused me to buy a copy of the paper so quickly.
The reason I have scanned it is that most dubs will not believe what they read from an on-line source and so a scanned article including the Guardian's page head title and date can carry more weight and is less easy to dismiss. Another point is that a large number who read this board will not have access to an original Guardian newspaper copy.
This is not meant in any way to detract from your original post but to enhance the spread of truth about this controlling and corrupt organization that so many of us believed and followed in the past.

Rissoles are basically veg or meat mixed with onion, herbs egg and breadcrumbs, rolled into a sausage shape, brushed with beaten egg, coated with breadcrumbs and the fried or grilled.
Now who likes faggots with gravy.
i have heard today from 2 different sources that the wts has announced a global stop on all building work.
kingdom halls already being built are having the work on them stopped.. has anybody else heard this?
if it is true, what could be the reason.
Our local cong has been sharing a hall for about 2 years having been compulsory purchased by a utility company.
They have had a proposed site for a new hall for about the same length of time and nothing seems to be moving with it.
The utility company is still paying for the congs expenses at the shared hall and for taxi fares for those who now have to travel to this hall!!
Has always sounded like a bit of a scam to me.
Maybe others know more.
following up on refiners story, i heard a good one about the gb.. one of the gb (im not sure which one was visiting ireland.
he walked in the door and stopped.
turned around ran his finger over the top of the door, and wiped it looking for dust.. when he finished he ignored the greeting of the local bigwigs and demanded, "whos in charge od bethel cleaning ?
This one wasnt in a Bethel but the beard story reminded me.
On a local KH over the xmas period they needed to do some major ground work and lots of brothers turned up from other congs as volunteers.
One fairly new brother had come about 50 miles at his own expense and was a construction worker by trade, but of course he wasnt suitably qualified to drive the digger that they had hired in because he had a beard!! Not only that his beard actually disqualified him from working on the kh site totally.
He ended up going home.
many we know on leaving the jw's feel incredibly isolated.
on top of the problems directly associated with this feeling of isolation, often there are many other factors below the surface compounding and therefore hindering cognitive recovery.. for some the problems seem only slight, for others they are enormous and suicidal feelings may be the end result due to a belief that no-one understands or can help in any way at all.. on the ground support for former jehovahs witnesses is very very limited within the uk.
although if you fall into many other categories, i.e.
Do you really think there is a need for a literal 'safe house'?
As has been said most exiting jw's need to talk to others who understand.
I know that is what I needed more than anything else. Failing that, reading personal accounts from the many web sites also helped a great deal.
I dont know if I would have been happy having a face to face meeting with a stranger.
I think the idea of talking on the phone or at least initially via email is a good and non threatening start and I would be happy if anyone wants to email me with that in mind.
there are two things.
in the early and mid 80s there were witnesses saying that the cartoon characters the smurfs were not acceptable for witnesses.
i had two smurf cartoon books and my mother made me throw them away.
An elder related to us how his father (PO at the time) wouldnt allow him or his brother to put 'tiger tails' on their car aerials because they were demonic!!
For those of you to young to remember, 'tiger tails' were a promotion gimic by a petrol company in the UK back in I think the 70's.
Maybe englishman remembers them?
