jgnaut, .
: much of the hebrew scriptures is a dispassionate account of israels history.
most of the hebrew scriptures is total bullshit written after-the-fact so that israel could make them look better in history than they actually were.
Hi Farkel
yet another good point bought down to practical terms.
This also lends itself to disprove the noah's ark fable. 7 people couldnt shovel quick enough!!
Reminds me of a "Vicar of Dibley" scene where farmer Owens cows "had the squits".

has anyone else read this book?
her ladyship bought it for me a couple of years ago.
it's written by an american, bill bryson, and it covers the 18 years he spent living here in england.
Hi englishman
I have read the book twice and have to agree it is very good. I love BB's style.
Can also recomend his book"The Lost Continent" about his travels through small town America.

hallo everyone.
the earlier thread about the min school reminded me of the number of times that i researched and at least partly put together items and pub talks for 'he must be obeyed'.. this was necessary because he worked full time in a demanding job which left very little leeway for cobbling the many assignments together.
at first being a good dub wife i felt guilty at doing this but in talking to others whose husbands also worked full time and were not part time cleaners or window cleaners i found that several other elders wives had always done this.. not only the talks but also sorting out the school assigments, the schedules, field service arrangements, sorting the auditing, coach and accomodation for the dc and ca, checking the accounts etc.. lots of these sisters also helped their children put together their items.. rather makes a mockery of the male privilege of "taking the lead".. most elders and ms are unable to cope with all the pressures and work if their wives dont do most for them.
Hi Gumby
I am talking of about 5 years ago.
I knew of at least 8 in our area who through necessity did this.
I would think that most if not all would keep it very quiet due to feeling either guilty or disloyal in some way. I know we did. It was only VERY CLOSE brothers and sisters that we ever talked to about such things.
I imagine it still goes on as most over worked and pressured elders are loathe to pass over an assigment because they know what that means for a fellow elder.
Off course I am not talking about society men here but those genuine caring ones who do exist and end up almost buring themselves out if they dont see the org for what it really is.

Most elders and MS are unable to cope with all the pressures and work if their wives dont do most for them. This is of course if their wives are good little dubs and dont work secularly.
Anyone out there had or know of similar things.

recently we had a death in the family.
my little baby, my granddaughter died before she reached the age of 2.. i really loved that little girl.
this saddens me to no end.
Hallo Andy
I am so sorry for your pain.
I have mailed you.

i can honestly say i never trusted the elders in my congregation; there wasnt a single one of them that i thought would be of any use what-so-ever in helping with a problem.
on the contrary, whenever i had to speak to an elder, i invariably felt worse afterwards!.
this brings me to the point of this post.
Hi Dansk
good to see you back and posting. From the time we came into the org this idea of confessing to elders was something we found distrubing to say the least. Our reasoning was the same as yours 'what happens if they are DA or DF of even just 'step down'?
We never told anyone anything of any personal significance. Other half was an elder when we left and had been on a couple of JC's which he hated, but was totally discreet about any details.
Having said that as an elders wife I found many would tell you these private things anyway even when the elders didnt know so we to had to keep quiet!! I often used to ask if they wanted the info passed on to my husband and if not I respected that although sometimes it was an easy way for them to broach a personal problem with an elder.
So between us we know a lot of things about a lot of people including local PO's and other elders!! Maybe thats why no one has come to see us and we are not DA or DF.

i want to give my house a name.
lot's of my neighbours have already done this, so we have a plethora of name boards springing up in my road.
(actually, i susupect it's a sort of snobbery so that people will know that it's not just another old house full of flats and bedsits but a privately owned whole house).
