Will The Org Lose It's Charitable Status?

however, a rejoinder to the article has been submitted by hal st john broadbent of surrey in today's "times" in the section of the paper marked "over to you".

in "multibillion industry that takes from us all" (july 22) it says that the proposed reforms to charity law will "widen radically the definition of a charity, based on the concept of 'public benefit' .

welcome back from your hols.

I would love to see the org lose their charitable status.

We felt it was wrong to apply in the first place and the cong that we where in was one of the last to send in the form to register (other half was cong sec). All application dates are noted on the Charites web site.

Some of us have written to point out the uncharitable nature (ie:shunning, paedophile cover-ups and blood issue vis a vis Bulgaria) of the org both to the commision and our MPs especially following the high profile Silent Lambs march.

As yet there doesnt seem to be enough concrete evidence against them or maybe not enough of us writing and giving them the proof that they need.

Maybe this will change things.

I sincerely hope so.

it just had a big impact on me when i was leaving the watchtower, i still play it now.. "soul 2 soul" keep on moving.

i was playing that a lot at the time so it had an impact on memories.. "havent you heard" patrice rushen.

How many want out?

how many jws are there currently in the wt who want out but are held back by things they feel they can't control?

i hear posters say that if they're still jws then they must believe it.

what about the people whose whole family are jws and don't have any outside friends to turn to or for whatever reason are relying on their jw family for financial help and know that if they expressed doubts they would be cut off no questions asked.

I think there are probably a lot who would be out if there wasnt such a high price to pay with the potential loss of family, friends and maybe even marriage and job.

As someone posted a thread recently to the effect that "They get new ones due to logic and then keep them with emotional blackmail"

Equally there might also be some who would go back if the rules where less rigid.

Hi Minimus,

Yes I believe all of us who post here can make a difference, hopefully for the good.

Personally I know I read and benefited from lots of things I found on the old H2O board and on JWD long before I started to post. I am sure that many others would say the same and there is no reason not to assume that there are hundreds of hits that this board has each day from ones who are finding out what they can about the WTBTS and us XJW's.

Initially most of us come here to help ourselves but with time and knowledge that changes to an ability to help others.

I hope my comments never upset anyone and if they do I would hope that they would email me personally to sort it out.

hey all, i finally put up "beware of the voice of strangers" for downloading.

i had quite a bit of trouble putting it on the net (it's over 7 megs).

if not, i'll try and fix it on the weekend.. this is the district convention part on apostates.

Straining the gnat, gulping the camel.

i remember the stink caused in the congregation when the sweets 'skittles' were released in the uk.

they were advertised as containing 100% natural flavourings and colourings.. the problem was, the dye they used in the red skittles was cochineal.

cochineal is made by pulping the dried bodies of a mexican beetle and produces a vivid red colour that has been highly sought after in the past.. i'm not sure where the issue arose, but some bright spark decided it was against the blood policy to eat this as the beetles hadn't been bled before they were dried and crushed.. the congregation was in an uproar.

Having said that I do remember the "lecithin in the ice cream" one and one about Oxo cubes.

Have you heard of Yuz Asaf? Interesting BBC prog

having by chance watched this prog on bbc4 i have been doing some research into this story.. it is fascinating.

it presents information proving that jesus survived the crucifixion and then travelled to kashmir where he lived and preached to the lost tribes of israel.. i have never read any of this in the wt or any other church publications its all new to me.. has anyone else on the board done any research on this?.

I still find it a fascinating story. Whether thats all it is we may never know.

The interview with the director of the BBC prog was interesting, especially where he gave his reasons for making the documentary in the first place.

Having spent all of my life with religions allied to christian teachings I found it amazing that this account was something I had never heard of especially as allegedly a fair proportion of the upper echeleons of the Cof E dont actually believe the ressurection account to be true but merely an allegory of hope for the future.

i've come to that conclusion.

some would rather not have to think about a position, a prophecy, a requirement or a belief.

they really would rather follow the dictates of leaders of an organization.

Hi all

I think it is a mixture of all these things plus a lot of the time emotional blackmail.

I know a lot who are in but dont really understand the talks and doctrines etc and only do token FS.

They go because it is easier than the consequences of exiting with the loss of family and friends.

The very sad and dangerous with this situation is the blood issue, so of course these ignorant JW's would DIE for the org but they dont really LIVE for it.

Ernest Ricketts ... DISFELLOWSHIPPED

for those of you who know ... or know of ernie ricketts, he was disfellowshipped a weerk ago, a long time prominent jehovah's witness, who represented the watchtower in jersey city, he was the care taker of the stanley theater.

there are a few post in the archivs that make mention of him.

i knew him personally, from what i was able to gather, the society wanted to get rid of him, apparently as someone told me "he was too black for the society," so they found a 17 year old "sin" and used that to get rid of him.
