on another thread i pointed out the idea that most jw who join as adults, do so out of a need to compensate for or as a reaction to some bad experiences such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, a time of upheaval, or just a plain old poorly developed sense of self.

simplistically we joined in our early 20's and left our church because we believed what the WTBTS was teaching.

18 years later we left having gradually come to the conclusion that they had lied to us.

On our way "out" we started to do research on line and everything thing we then discovered helped to make our exit complete.

Many things led to us beginning to have doubts not least of these being the falseness of the claim to be a "loving brotherhood" and "not like other religions with gossiping etc".

After about 5 years we had had enough but a bro & sis we were close to persuaded us that the problem was the local elder body who had a few arrogant individuals, and that the best thing would be to change congs, which we did.

Off course a new family are always "love bombed" and as before it takes a while to begin to unravel the politics in the new cong, but unravel it did.

About 15 years into our JW aberration, the continual schizophrenic writings in the WTBTS literature was very obvious and we had had enough.

It is very hard to try and extricate yourself from the clutches of such a high control group.

Our exit was made more complicated because other half was cong sec and we had bought up our children in it and they were all baptized good publishers.

Fortunately as we began to doubt and then see the stupidity of the whole set up we shared this with them.

We are now all OUT.

One is still married to a very weak JW, but they seem to have a working compromise and there is no shunning towards any of us.

As to why we listened to the JW's in the first place: Looking back we were going through a difficult time, a young family, fil dying, very high interest rates in the UK (15%), riots, strikes, redundancy and the Falklands war to name but a few. Yes someone in control who could sort out all of these things and make the world lovely was the answer to everything.

Why did it take us so long?

I think the answer to that is how busy the society keeps you especially if you really believe it and are trying to do everything properly especially as an elder.

There are usually 1 or 2 elders in each cong that people will talk to with problems and other half was one of those. He felt for a long time that he couldnt "step down" with a clean conscience.

But now we wish we had never listened to the sweet little old lady who came to our door 22 years ago.

Now we dont believe in any form of munificent deity.

The over-riding factor that seem to govern all thing is sods law.

need slogan, ideas please!

i know this is not jw related but can i tap into your wealth of wisdom and talents please!

i work in a playgroup in a small village and we need to come up with a catchy/ humorous slogan to put on a banner on our float for the village festival parade this weekend.

the over all theme is medieval, and as a playgroup we are dressed as robin hood and maid marions.

A Moral Dillema... and ideas?

okay, background info;.

my ex-wife is threatening to cut contact between me and my daughters (12 and almost 15).. she has done a great job of being the parent with the lions share of rasing them (especialy as she's become inactive) and has always resisted 'excessive' involvement as well as always being resentful and obstructive of contact with them, down to them not feeling comfortable to call me due to her reaction.

last year my x cut off contact for three month as she was 'under stress'... or more accurately, i'd asked to have them for a week in the summer holidays and she can't stand to see me have anything that makes me happy even if it spoils things for her daughters.... this year, in addition to repeating the request for holidays, i spoke to her about a few problems i'd found out about regarding my daughters.

Apologies if I have missed the point BUT

if your ex wifes mental state is that unstable is she safe bringing up your daughters and having so much control especially when coupled with the JW influence.

If you have letters in your possesion which clearly state the position of your ex wife and your ex father-in -laws attitude could these be used to gain you further if not total custody?

Have you spoken to a solicitor about any of this.

Is the mental health of your daughters safe given this amount of manipulation?

You can have an assessment from a child pyschologist which might help if you are in any doubt.

Could you take on the full time care of your daughters if necessary.

Smart JWs

most of us often talk about what we don't like in the jws and why we left but i think there are some smart persons/families/entire congs there who know how to play the system, they don't really give a toss about the wts ideology (or behaviour) but they stay there just to have a good social or family life in exchange for giving 5 or 7 hours to the org per week.

to them it is a social club not a religion.

have you seen or heard anything on this?

Sorry but cant stand hypocrisy.

These ones who "play the system" are often the same ones who stand on the platform and pontificate the

the WTBTS creed (rules and regs) for the cong to follow.

No problem if all are in the same hypocritical mold. The big problem is when there are new ones, BS and honest

people listening who then try and live their lives according to these precepts.

The honest ones get screwed because they try to do it all and be good dubs, the loud mouthed hyprocrites

just talk the talk but dont walk the walk.

One day some of these might just be faced with the blood issue.

Will they then be willing to DIE or sacrifice their children for their hypocrisy?

Does the WTS's past matter?

i know, i'd jump into this topic by saying, "heck yeah.

they're the ones saying they've been appointed by god based on what they were doing back around 1914-1919.

" but i'm trying to help someone out who has reached a roadblock with his wife.

If they really belive that the past doesnt matter why

1 Have they published 2 books (albeit carefully doctored) on their history (JW and the divine plan and Proclaiming the good news).

2 Why encourage everyone to build up a good library including the OLDER publications and bound volumes.

Of course the past matters. Does your wife think that who she is today is not governed by her past?

Why read the bible if the past doesnt matter.

Why have bible dramas if the past doesnt matter.

How far back would she go for the past to matter or not, as the case may be?

I wish we could have known of the WTBTS past before we got involved in their "present truth" 20 years ago.

Just a few thoughts.
