My roommate was listening in on the Thursday ministry school meeting via speaker phone last week, and from my room I heard a man talk at length about how Jehovah's generosity exceeds that of all others.
Just a couple weeks prior to this, I had gotten into an argument with my roommate over whether or not Jehovah will resurrect our pets. She, of course, said no, because "Jesus didn't die for animals," despite my many conjectures:
1. That animals themselves were once sacrificed in order to fulfill the ransom of Christ before He was born
2. The Bible tells animals have souls
3. Animals are without sin, and therefore don't need Jesus to die for them
4. Jehovah promised us the desires of our hearts, and I firmly believe that should include resurrecting our pets
She dug her Bible out and quoted something from Corinthians at me, but I was too upset to remember what it was. All I can recall is that it was too vague for anyone in their right mind to get "animals die forever" out of it. In fact, it sounded to me like the writer admitted in a roundabout way that he didn't have the answer either.
As it grew increasingly harder to argue with her, I started saying things like "my mom always said if she could bring our pets back to life, she would, so why wouldn't Jehovah?" and "if it were up to you, wouldn't YOU resurrect your pets?" She finally said, in an angry tone (which is EXTREMELY rare for her because she is literally one of the most cheerful, positive people you will ever meet) "Well, you can take it up with Jehovah," and "I don't want to argue with you, because what you're saying sounds very close to blasphemy."
To call a god who refuses to resurrect our pets the most generous being in all of creation when countless humans would not hesitate to do so if they had the power is probably one of the most deceptive things I have ever heard from the borg.

Deceptive comments or lies that you have heard from platform or brothers & sisters?
by Farmer Jim1 inok, so what are the most deceptive comments that you have heard from your experience in congregations?.

Have you seen Eraserhead (1977)? ... spoilers!
by LoveUniHateExams ini had heard a bit about it, most of it positive.
i typed 'eraserhead review' into youtube and quite a few videos came up that presumably attempted to explain the film.. i couldn't be arsed watching a youtube vid with some artsy-fartsy person droning on about eraserhead and lynch so i thought i'd start an op about it instead.. i bought the dvd a few days ago.
i gotta say, it's quite a strange film.

The most haunting thing about that movie, for me, isn't the baby, but the song that the lady in the radiator sings.

Kleenex Head Covering
by jwundubbed ingrowing up a woman in the cult was pretty bleak.
most of the adult women i knew were either depressed sad women or an embarrassment to me.
i was typical kid in that regard.

A JW friend of mine (a woman in her fifties) chuckled as she told me about the time her mother resorted to using a diaper as a head covering. I couldn't believe she thought anything about that situation was funny.

by Disassociated Lady 2 inreading the meeting workbook study for this week to see what my family will be reading at their meeting, once again they are asking for members for generous gifts not only from money they earn but also part of any investments they may have and making future arrangements for them to inherit after death through their wills.

Frankly, I'm surprised they included this one:
CONDITIONAL DONATION ARRANGEMENT
Donations of cash with the condition that it can be returned if needed by the donor.

Will they drink the Kool Aid?
by Hecce inas you know the question regarding the “kool aid” is related to the tragic events at guyana and jim jones.
blind obedience and faith in this man resulted in a massive loss of lives.. sometimes we see the same pattern of blind obedience to the watchtower from the witnesses.
this could be on major items or small details.

This is something from a year or two ago that I saved from Facebook. This is a group of JW's discussing what they will do during the tribulation. You can skip the article. The comments alone are disturbing.

Those who DO NOT get a resurrection?
by stuckinarut2 inso we know that by jw logic, the idea is that everyone who dies is acquitted of their sin and will get a resurrection in the "new world".
however, those directly destroyed by god, or at his command will not.
(for example, those destroyed in the flood.

I've never gotten a clear answer on what part of the Bible is supposed to back up their claim that Adam and Eve won't be resurrected. Something about them being perfect already and therefore their sins were automatically unforgivable, which doesn't make a lick of sense because:
1. Nowhere in the Bible does it specifically say that Adam and Eve won't come back. There is only a vague, roundabout suggestion based on an interpretation of another scripture entirely, and we all know how JWs like to cherry pick vague scripture to apply to something seemingly unrelated, or do the opposite and insist that a scripture MUST be very specific or else it cannot be applied,
and
2. How on earth can a perfect person be capable of sin in the first place? Committing a sin, even intentionally, seems like the polar opposite of perfection. In what exact way were Adam and Eve "perfect"? Because it certainly wasn't in the judgment department, that's for sure. -

Freudian slip in last Sunday's WT?
by The Fall Guy ini had this point highlighted to me yesterday by a dyed-in-the-wool j.w.
who is beginning to see cracks in his beloved golden calf of warwick.
so encouraging to hear his disgruntlement with org-related topics.. “many in the christian congregation may not have expected their loved ones to die this side of armageddon.” (july 2017 study wt).

Not sure how that's a Freudian slip. Do you think he was subconsciously implying that some are expected to die AFTER Armageddon? Like, after the thousand-year reign when Satan is allowed one more chance to tempt us? Because that was already to be expected, wasn't it?
