I watched the video and it made me shudder.. I feel sorry for the cute little girl who doesn't know yet that she has been born into a life dictated by a cult..

How far will you go to defile the Watchtower...
by zeroday ini fly the flag, give blood and vote at each and every election.

I guess the best way for me is just to live a happy free life not hindered by their inane policies and doctrines. I finally gave blood a few months ago and I am giving blood again this week. Its also great to be able to vote for my candidate of choice(although the choices aren't great) in my country's elections. If I see a Dub from my past, I will smile as I pass them and show that my life is better and I haven't slipped into a life of demonism or debauchery.. as they so love to think of ones who leave.

Are you embarrassed?
by desib77 indoes anyone else find themselves embarrassed about their jw past?
i find that when people that know what i used to be ask me about it i am completely embarrassed by how foolish their beliefs sound especially things like the blood issue.
i can't stand when someone will say "why did you believe such and such....?

Yes it embarrasses me that I was a JW in my past, I rarely, if ever discuss it with anyone who would not know about my past.

Why God refuses to interfere
by greendawn inmany people ask why doesn't god interefere to help suffering mankind?
biblically the answer is very simple: mankind exercise their freedom of choice and in so doing chose to be slaves to sin or the demons if you like.
god respects that choice however foolish it may be.

trevor.. your post expresses exactly my beliefs in what God really is.. that God(which means love for life and others) is within each of us.. I find more peace in my life feeling that as humans we no longer have to fear pleasing a remote God up there somewhere...These are the beliefs that work for me in my life...

Did You Believe "The End" Was Going To Come In Your Lifetime?
by minimus inwhen the society came out in 1966 with the info that 6000 years of man's existence would come to an end by 1975, i thought it was a crock.
for 9 long years, all jws did was speculate about "when" the great tribulation was going to begin.
i always thought of jesus' words about "nobody knowing the day or the hour"----yet jehovah's witnesses figured it out?

Yes.. when I was a teenager in the year 1975, when they preached it was a marked year and then when nothing happened, they preached we must not serve God on timelines and that we must trust that Jah has his own agenda and we must be faithful and patient..I guess I finally ran out of patience and didn't really care anymore whether armeggedon was coming or not..I wanted to live my life before it was too late to really enjoy it.. ---My way ..not the way the society says I should live.

How do you deal with death now
by unique1 ini must say, it was easier being a jw, believing that i would in fact be resurrected to a paradise earth and having the faith that would definitely happen.
i still believe in the bible to the extent that i believe jesus led a good life and if we follow his example we will lead one to.
however, the bible was written by men, who are imperfect and therefore i don't feel we can take the entire book at face value as truth.

I feel like some others here..that I fear death less now than as a JW..The way I see it..before I was born I had no awareness of the living world and so after death, I am sure it will be just as peaceful..Im not worried, there is nothing any of us can do to change death or what happens after. But what ever is waiting for us..I am sure we don't need to fear it at all.

The Watchtower Society Reforms! Would you go back?
by Fleshybirdfodder ini don't think i would under any circumstances.
under what criteria would you?
or wouldn't you?
-
lilybird
I would never return in any case because I have now learned to value the freedom of living as my family and I choose to. I no longer believe in an all-powerful God as some do.. but I do know that if I did choose to worship a God I don't need any kind of organized religion to tell me how to worship him.I wouldn't have the patience to put up with the scrutiny of other JWs and elders as to how I worship or how I live my life.

how would you respond
by besty ini had a shepherding call a while back and expressed some doubts about the org.
one of the elders asked 'if you know what you know now, would you still have got baptised?
sensing a bit of a leading question, i ducked it by replying 'impossible to say'

Hi besty.. welcome to the board..Its always good when you have control as far as dealing with the elders. Its good to hear you know how to keep the control right now..The elders seem lost when Dubs don't answer them like good minded controlled Dubs should..Just another reason why this forum is so helpful to everyone..It helped you know how to deal with a situation like that.
