We made the cross country trek from Southern Ontario to BC this summer and stopped over nite in Calgary. Beautiful city, which is really growing economy wise. The Rockies were so beautiful, We were awestruck by them. We also spent a day in Banff. We took the gondola trip up the mountain were we had a great birds-eye view of the Rockie range. Then we had lunch in a great Irish pub in Banff .Alberta really does have the best tasting beef, as it is known for it, eh??

Sex before marriage = a miserable marriage according to WTBTS!
by Gill inthe anti sex beatings from the wtbts go on and on!.

this particular mag has an article on 'does romantic love justify premrital sex?'.

I know that back in the 1970's when all the young ones like ourselves were getting marrried, it was usually just because they wanted to have sex. Not because they necessarily loved the person. After the excitement of new sex wore off, they had to actually live a life with the person. Many of the marriages ended in divorce or ones leaving the org. I remember one young brother who discovered that there is life after sex, actually told his young sister to get a hotel room instead of getting married. She didn't listen and her marriage ended in divorce several years later.Seems to me that waiting to have sex until after you are married almost guarantees a failed or at least miserable marriage..

Okay...boring but I just needed to Post A Topic...
by HadEnuf inquote from "don't sweat the small stuff" (appropriate for all practicing apostates).. "although it can seem, at least initially, that you're giving up something by quitting, in the end you'll probably realize that, in reality, you're gaining more than you're giving up.
you're getting back yourtime and your sanity--and what could be more important that that"?.
yeah...that's how we should all feel after being set free.. love...mumsy.

So true"Don't sweat the small stuff". I find that now my life is my own and not run by the org, its just important to be happy to enjoy every day. Even more so since, a good friend of ours was killed last week when she was thrown off the back of a motorcycle she was riding on. She was only 51. Makes me realize how we tend to take life so for granted, and we should stop worrying so much about how we got here,, why we are here and what happens to us in the afterlife,,, and live..

I have heard this at assemblies also. Its just another example of mindcontrol and keeping the masses afraid to venture to far out into the "evil world" .Sometimes I think the brothers giving the talks get so used to talking BS that they actually believe themselves..

Well, there was not really any open racism in our congregations here in canada when I attended in the 1970's, but when I was engaged to marry my husband who is black Jamaican born in England but raised in Canada, an elder in our congregation who was the father of my best friend, asked me if I would soon have a ring pierced thru my nose. I couldn't believe these words came out of his mouth, he tried to laugh it off as a bad joke as I stared in complete disbelief at him. I just shook my head and walked away. There is racism, they are just programmed to not talk about it.
My husband and I also remember a Watchtower or Awake from the 1970's, I can't remember the article, but it discouraged marriage between "different races" as life was enough struggle as a JW and it would make staying loyal to JAh that much harder.. Does anyone remember this article??

I attended the wedding of a longtime non-JW friend of ours on the weekend. The family stood up by the head table and talked about their daughter (the bride) and memories of her growing up. The best man and bridesmaids all gave speeches about how they felt about the newly married couple and their lives prior and in the future. It was a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception full of family love. No witness wedding I ever attended including my own was as warm and loving. No one made speeches or really celebrated the day. The master of ceremonies at a witness wedding was usually an approved ministerial servant. It made me sad in a way that I had missed out on a real celebration of marriage when I married. Dubs are not allowed to express true feeling or make anyone feel special in any way.. It really made me realize how shallow and empty the Dub way of life is..So happy my kids will have a real wedding when they marry ..
