  Why don't JW friends come over and say hello?

  i always wondered why jw's didn't stop by to say hello, just to encourage or by friendship?.

  but if i showed up at the hall, after many months, they would be happy to see me, and would come to talk to me, and ask what,s going on in my life as if they were really interested in me.

  so, if they were happy to see me at the hall, why wouldn't they be happy showing up at my place too.. why is it that only the elders come over to see me once in a blue moon?.

  Basically, the organization teaches Dubs to be selfish and self-serving while under pretense of caring..They are so busy worrying about doing everthing to make sure they have everlasting life, they don't have time to make real caring relationships with friends work...Thats why so many like to drop by on "friends" who are spiritually weak, when they are out on service..Makes them look like good caring people , plus they can count an extra few hours on their reports.

  JW doctrine makes them think like mindcontrolled drones anyways, I don't think they even understand what having a good time means anymore,,,Everything you do ,,you have to worry about stumbling others,,or in some way displeasing God so that you might lose out on everlasting life.

  How did your family react to your decision over time?

  i'm still somewhat hopeful my family will one day 'see the light'.

  in your experience, did any of your family members finally understand your reason for leaving and communicate with you as a family member and not an apostate?.

  My husband's parents at first were shocked. My mother-in-law told us that we " took being JWs too seriously". We found that ridiculous as we were raising children and as far as we were concerned, you couldn't act one way and then expect our kids to act as JWS also...Of course that is how his parents lived as Dubs..and his father was an elder..he survived by living a double life..one as a good Dub.. the other as a "worldly guy" with his non-JW friends. ..They have never shunned us even though counselled too.. They do as they want..probably because they donate a lot to the congregration and help many brothers out financially..

  I have no living JWs on my side of the family.

  Congratulations! Don't let the age factor bother you. My sister had her first child at age 37 as she was busy with her career and her second at age 42. She is enjoying every minute of it !

  Exciting things are happening lately

  Sad how the dub's minds are programmed to think the stuff she wrote in her letter is exciting.. Sounds just like how it was 20 years ago when I still a mind-controlled dub.

  Does she still really believe the end is near or even going to happen??

  2014, a hundred years since christ's supposed invisible presence began, has come and gone.

  it is now 2018.. you are now 75 years old and the world is packed with free information.

  you can find out anything you want to, and infact, you have to use the internet every day just to shop and bank and a lot of the things you need to do.

  Great post and insight into the future , Gill. My husband and I have talked about this very real future for the Dub friends we left behind. We wonder how many now that we grew up with and are now in their 40's secretly wonder if they have wasted their lives and when we are all in our 70's and 80's they finally realize how they really have wasted away their lives.

  We are happy that at least we left before we would have wasted our kids lives away if we had raised them as Dubs also.

  My mother committed suicide 23 years ago by drug overdose. She was severely depressed . My husband and I always feel that the religion played a big part in her illness as she never felt she was good to serve Jehovah( actually the org!). The elders were aware she had committed suicide but they still held a memorial service for her in the congregation and the sisters put together a luncheon which was served at the KH after the service. I am not sure if that would be allowed now, but I always found our congregation at that time to be much more free thinking than others, not sure why, I suppose it was the people who attended.

  If something sounds too good to be true...........

  most relatively intelligent people usually understand that if 'something sounds too good to be true, it usually is too good to be true.'.

  so why do normal people lose their common sense when it comes to the beliefs of the watchtower society?.

  in a nutshell, the wtbts claims that if you go to all their meetings, study all their literature, spend numerous hours trying to make new recruits, and just believe without thinking all of their doctrine, you stand some sort of chance of never dying.......living forever in paradise on earth, and should you die, you should be resurrected into such a world.. now, i'm not saying that doing all those watchtower things is 'easy' in any way.....in fact they're incredibly tiresome.

  I guess its sort of like how people always buy lottery tickets and scratch tickets..Its always nice to believe that you can win the big one!! Many people feel the need to belong to an organized belief system and lots of people obviously can't think for themselves and need other people to set goals and beliefs for them. I still buy lottery tickets and dream of winning the big one but at least now I am free thinking enough to be able to establish my own belief system about life and the afterlife.

  Congratulations on your 25th anniversary. Not a lot of couples make it that far these days..It will be 29 years for us this May. You mentioned "The closer I get to you" That was our first song we danced to out our wedding.
