The last time my husband and I went to the memorial about 8 years ago to please my in-laws. It was so boring.. I can't even remember what they said because I was trying not to fall asleep...An elder came and told us if we wanted to come back we would have to have a bible study and then sit at the back of the hall with no one talking to us until we were deemed suitable for reinstatement..NO Thanks.. havent been back ..never will,,

THE HAPPY FACTOR
by Dogpatch inhere's a question that i haven't seen addressed directly:.
why are there many witnesses who enjoy the organization immensely?.
no matter what you tell them, they would not dream of leaving.

Kids smile because they are happy. they look miserable when they are miserable. We are constantly told to potray an image of happiness - a vision of the happiness to come in paradise.
Thats true enough. I remember when my sister and I were teens and walked with our jw mom to the book study and field service to our group which was just a few blocks away.We usually walked with our heads down, feeling embarrassed and hoping none of our friends saw us . A neighbour used to watch us walking to these meetings and remarked to an elder in our congregation(when he called at her door in field service) about how unhappy we looked with our heads down as we walked..We were counselled by him to walk with our heads up and smile and wave at neighbours as we walked to make a good impression of the jws.

Can a brother buy his way eldership ?
by KAYTEE incan brothers buy their way to stardom (eldership) .
have you known anyone who got to being an elder because of his financial status or by having a broker working for him.. i knew a brother who had been out of the borg for many years, who on his return purchased a carpet for the kingdom hall.. this must have prompted the elders to see his spiritual qualities, because soon after he progressed up the so called ladder, to arrive at a "glorious elder".. have you come across this sort of thing?.

yes. my father-in-law was an elder because he had money and flashed it around and donated a lot to the congregation, plus he was always driving the brothers around in his cadillac and then taking them out to lunch after!! When he died , his will left 100 thousand dollars to the Watchtower society before any of his family got a penny

Would you die for what you believe?
by avidbiblereader inwith many strong feelings or beliefs either way for christianity, atheism, jw would you be willing to die for your beliefs, or are they just feelings that never come from the heart?
if faced with death for your beliefs, would you?.

I can't see any purpose in dying for a belief. Believing in something is what makes your life better or more meaningful. If you die for a belief.. then it makes it all meaningless. Your beliefs have not made your life better..

Did you stop singing the songs BEFORE you stopped going to meetings?
by zack inafter i found out the truth abouth the troof, i could not--- i mean physically could not---- sing a note of a jw song at a meeting.. this was way before i decided to make a plan and a final break.

Yep.. long before I had the courage to talk to my husband about leaving the org, I stopped singing songs at the meetings and stopped closing my eyes and bowing my head for the prayer..It just felt very wrong and superficial to me somehow... The songs are meaningless propaganda for a publishing company. I think they stole some of the music from other worldly songs anyways..

I suppose watching it live in Vegas it would sound alright as it is a feel good... move to the music type of song. Other than that.. it just sounded like a run of the mill kareoke.I thnk that is a song she shouldn't try singing. Even Celine can't sing everything..

My Bethel Experience Part 18
by new boy inthis is the fun one......... health, dismemberment, death (natural and unnatural) murder and suicide.. well its sunday afternoon, portland oregon, february 18, 2007.........its been 34 years,.......i 'm just drunk enough, excuse me,.....i mean "self medicated"enough (p.s.
juni sweet heart.... i love you), to start writing this chapter.........the people at bethel were killing us spiritually!.......and sometimes they killed us physically too.....i'm not letting myself of the hook...i was there and i was as bad them..............no, i'm sorry i was worst then them......and why?.....because i knew better....those bastards didn't know any better .......we need to send them some love........the thing they can't give us ................we need to give them......... love............. "thats all you need" .
first off....... when you go to bethel, you sign a document stating that if you die while you are at bethel, the society has "the right" to keep your body.........most people, just sign it and forget about it, but don't you think that is just a little strange?..........i did.

There was a young brother from our congregation in the early 1970's who went to bethel. He left before his 4 years were up. He said he had issues with his time there , he had been disillusioned with bethel and there was were things he didn't like about bethel. He would never elaborate about it but has remained a loyal dub. The jwgirl he married when he was out of bethel left him after 20 years of marriage. Not sure why.. but they are still both loyal dubs even though they are divorced.I am enjoying reading your experiences.I think I now know the reasons he was dissillusioned and wanted out.

WE have a yellow lab.. his pic is in my avatar. He does a few tricks like if you put a cookie on his nose he will flip it into his mouth. Also he will roll over onto his back for a cookie. He also is a typical lab .. he likes his belly rubbed anytime..He loves to lie on your feet when you sit down. When he is sleeping he will sleep on his back with legs in the air. He also chases cats and rabbits in his sleep and barks and growls at them in his dreams.
