It's obvious they don't want you around to tempt him, and/or cause him to perhaps question his beliefs, ie: lead him astray.

My biggest concern is the Watchtower and it's authority
Yes, that needs to be your biggest concern.
Having been raised in and lived the life for 42 years under their authority, believe me, I can be trusted to know what goes on. If I could talk to you in person, you could see and hear my sincerity for your plight. My son is your age and I wouldn't wish this situation on him for anything. If I believed in angels, he would be one, for being the one that brought us all out of JW's three years ago.
I wasn't allowed to be in contact with any "worldly" boyfriend either during my years as a JW growing up. I was followed, spied on, reported on to the elders by my own sister for continuing to see my non JW boyfriend, and suffered from a public announcement of punishment in the congregation. Yet, I stuck around......for 30 more years. Brainwashed.
The authority of which you speak in your above comment, will RULE your life and destroy your true self, eventually. If you had seen your father, as I did mine, literally surrounded by the Watchtower's literature before taking his life - always seeking to allow this authority to rule his life, searching for THEIR answers, maybe the depth of what is involved could be understood.
For now though, this is a lot of info to digest, and you need to experience more life, before you give that life over to an organization (cult) like JW's.
I would suggest you get a copy of the book by Steven Hassan, "Combatting Cult Mind Control" and read it while you still have somewhat of an open mind. Perhaps you can share it with Jon and get his viewpoint on it's contents. Sadly, it's another thing he won't be allowed to do though, read this book, unless he does it on the sly and feels guilty for doing so.

.....when we were engaged to be married, my husband's Lutheran pastor had given him a book on CULTS to hopefully convince him not to marry a JW, cult follower. He left the book at my apartment, with a note, and moved out all his stuff that he'd been moving in slowly. He had decided to call off our marriage until he could think things through more regarding our differences in faith.
Well, two months later, we did get married and our only difficulties those first years were related to the JW/vs. non JW issues, most of which I believe have been mentioned somewhere along the way on this long thread, so I won't reiterate them all.
Several years later, once two baby boys had arrived on the scene, my husband took the JW plunge into baptism and cult life. All in the name of having a "unified family".
Once these babies were growing and developing their thinking abilities, ( ie: normal brain development) , it became clear that this was a NO-NO in the JW faith. We were instructed continuously that they were to be MOLDED and SHAPED in the cult life, and personalities put on hold, stunted, shut down from developing normally. Our eyes finally opened to the destructiveness of this way of life, the harm being caused to our children that could last their lifetime. With the help of our youngest, in seeing these truths, we were able to salvage our lives together as a family and get out.
Please consider seriously all that you have read here. It's a topic that touches us deeply as you can see from the number of times the thread has been viewed. (14, 399)

this pain will continue for a long time until I become a Witness, if I do. And...if I don't...I don't even want to think of that.
I must tell you that your pain will continue for a LONGER time if you convert to JW either for/or not for him.
My now husband had met me while I was lifer JW, ten years into our marriage he did end up converting, and 15 years later we have both RUN for our sanity and happiness together till the day we die.
There are many fish in the sea so keep the line out there for a better catch. (or, find the sense here to share with him).

someone told me that not so long ago it was to some extent unacceptable to listen to beatles music.
but now it is rap and heavy metal that is distasteful to jehovah.

Before my dad took his life, I took over a CD player and an assortment of music that I thought could perk up his mood a bit and bring some "joyful noise" into his home. Among the CD's was a good one by Yanni, and a couple of Kenny G....and a George Benson.
A couple of days after taking them over to his place, I could see they hadn't been touched and when I asked how he'd liked them, the reply was that he hadn't listened to them, and anxiously ordered me to:
"take them outta here! If someone saw them, they'd think I was going off the deep end or something!"
O K A Y ..........Yanni and Kenny G?? It boiled down to the fact that the covers showed pictures of the artists and they both had LONG HAIR!
ok.....so i went and got my belly button pierced about 3 months ago.
the stupid girl pierced it with a barbel, instead of a ring...i didn't know it had to be pierced w/ a ring until i got my tatoo a month ago and i was talking to the guy about how my piercing wasn't healing...he said, ''did she pierce it with that barbel?
''.....so it's taking forever to heal and it looks kind of nasty sometimes.
I had just a regular ear piercing done at a jewelry store that took 7 months to heal. It periodically was red, inflamed, painful and infected looking, I decided to check in with a reputable piercing/tattoo salon, where the long time, experienced owner of the place, insisted that it is not infected and piercings often do take a full year to heal.
I apparently was having a metal reaction to the gold hoop, and she replaced it with titanium. She shared these instructions with me and felt that faithfully following them will improve and speed the healing. She also convinced me to never have ear piercing done with the punching gun used at jewelry stores.
This is the info on a flyer they give out with each piercing done at her salon.
AFTER CARE:
Cleaning your piercing is very important. It may take up to ONE YEAR to heal completely. You must clean the piercing twice a day for a minimum of three months.
STEP 1: SOAKING is probably the most important step.
In the shower or clean bath.
With a large glass of warm water to hot sea salt water. 1/4 teaspoon of salt to 8 oz. warm water.
With a wet warm washcloth.
Soak 5-10 minutes, 2X A DAY, or more, if needed. For cleaning above the neck: Improvise as necessary. ie: using warm wet cloth for soaking.
STEP 2: WASHING
Immediately following soaking, lather up your soap with a little water and thoroughly wash the piercing. Rinse completely.
Recommended liquid soaps:
Provon Anti-microbial --- Gold Liquid Dial Soap (most recommended) ---- Dr. Bronner's Castille Soap
STAY OUT of pools, hot tubs, oceans, lakes, etc. for up to 3 months.
DO NOT TOUCH your new piercing unless you are cleaning it.
DON'T let others rub against or touch your new piercing.
AVOID tight clothing that binds or irritates the piercing.
-For the first 3-6 months, follow the cleaning routine twice daily.
-For the next 3-9 months, clean area once daily.
-Do not touch the pierced area other than to clean.
-Remember to always wash hands before handling the piercing.
-Do not use peroxide, or rubbing alcohol or ointments on the piercing.
*BACTINE - some like to use Bactine as a third step immediately after having done the cleaning routine. Some people have experienced irritations from Bactine, it is not for everyone. Remember, Bactine is not meant to be a substitute for cleaning. If you have had success with it in the past, and enjoy it, you may continue to use it.

Don't know about the lip synching, but WOW, what a performance!! I was in awe at the beauty of the emotion displayed, the life and energy exuded - whether they were actually singing it or not.
Brought tears to my eyes, and my first expression to my husband was how I wished I could be like that. That "LIFE" in me had been squelched by the org for more than 40 years and now it's hard to resurrect it.
yeah....reality still hasn't set in yet but i'm done with grad school.
finished my thesis and my mfa show on thursday.
still tired.
