i am 16 years old and i was raised as a jehovah's witness, but i want out.
the whole society is based on brainwashing, propaganda and greed.
my parents are so brainwashed about it that when i told her thnta i didn't want to be part of this religion anymore, she cried.
(((helpme222)))
Don't give up - be your own self - listen to your own intuition and be proud to use your own brain.
On a clear day, you can see forever......remember, compared to you, your jw parents have had many days clouded with brainwashing. I had 42 years worth being raised as a jw - but now my brain has been washed clean! (...to use their thought...)
My teen son, raised as a jw like you, was in great pain and I couldn't believe that there would be any "god/organization/way of life" that would expect/demand a parent to become so heartsick to see their child use their own brain in a way that wasn't identical to them. (ie: crying moms)
Well, I wasn't gonna cry over seeing him THINK differently, and to reverse a "platform experience" :
As a result of allowing him, while still a minor in our home, to THINK, his dad and I and brother all started to THINK and be honest with one another and have all walked away from the cult - hand in hand with him. He was the cause of US activatating our brains and the joy i now have as a parent, observing him enjoying life and being the person he always was, hidden from view, is indescribeable. May your mom one day know that same joy.
Appeal to her womanly sensibilities in whatever way you can. Be loving and kind in explaining your thoughts. How can a mom resist that?
**** Find a copy of the 8-8-88 AWAKE and share the articles with your folks on one CHOOSING their own religion vs. CHANCE of being born into one. ***
I would suggest too, in addition to all the great folks you will meet here at JWD, that you talk to a school counselor, and/or, find in the community some resources for teens that often offer no cost counseling and/or mental health care and get professional help, particularly if you are feeling depressed or overwhelmed.
If you'd ever like to talk more, feel free to pm me and my family.

ok one of the things that my husband kept asking as i was trying desperately to do my fade thing was.... .
indeed when he told his coworkers what was going on with me they would ask... .
the freedom that they tell you you have is conditional.
Yes, it will be a very HAPPY INDEPENDENT THINKING DAY for us all !!
Cheers!
4JWY & family
happy independance day!!!!
!
i just made my reservations at the emergency room, so i won't be stuck in the lobby for hours listening to all that crying and whining.
....HAPPY INDEPENDENT THINKING DAY!
i had extended family members, both with families of 7, abandon good jobs and homes in the suburbs of chicago.
they moved to the wild outskirts of 2 separate states to protect their families from armageddon.
they both waited for 20 years, wound up financially destitute and finally had to move and depend on other family members to recover.. it would be interesting to read the stories from those of you who went through this time period as a jw.. r.
Living in a small apartment with my parents, because it just wasn't right to be buying houses in those days...........in 1975, with Armageddon imminent, my dad decided we had to move 3000 miles, from one coast to the other, of the U.S., so that our whole family would all be living in the same area when the "Big Show" came down.
My mother was made to sell almost everything we owned since dad convinced her that all the silver and gold and possessions were going to be thrown into the streets anyway. Mom gave away precious antiques and anything that would take up space in the '65 Chevy pickup. (Years later expressing her regret over it........)
People in our congregation were buying new cars, like 240 Z's, since, "hey, we won't have to pay for them anyway!!" The end is coming!
I knew that I was gonna be bird food, so, I was a sun worshipper, reveling at the poolside, since I would be dead before I would get skin cancer anyway. Or, if by chance I survived, my skin would be perfect forever. Ha! Joke's on me now
......almost 30 years later........when the END hadn't come YET............my dad, ever anxious for that "Big Show".....made an exit on his own accord. The only thing he still had control over, while overcome with WTS anxiety, was his death.
Fortunately, I chose an exit from the CULT, not from life itself.
.
i posted on a thread earlier that i'm sure jesus had a sense of humour.. i clicked submit post.. then i thought, yeah i'm sure he did but he didn't tell any jokes did he?
in fact i can't think of anything funny in the whole bible.. here's your chance to post a bible story that gets you roaring with laughter...
It was interesting to hear on the " Gospel of Judas " program last night on the National Geographic Channel that part of what was found in this Gospel of Judas writing was that Jesus DID actually laugh. As a matter of fact, it is written in that manuscript that he LAUGHED at the time of offering prayer over the bread and wine!
A new twist for those attending the Memorial this week - laughter in imitation of Jesus.
the cycle never ends even when you leave the wt.
you go from one set of fears to another set of fears.
i used to be terrified of armageddon when i was a jw and just knew i was going to get hit by a lightning bolt from jehovah on that day.
Are you ex-jw's serving Jehovah and Jesus out of fear of Armageddon/Hellfire?
Uh....no. Not at all. Did you mean to say JW's??
I think you've got it totally backwards. I am freed of the fear I lived with all my life as a jw.
I did such a double take when I clicked on your topic and saw your face - you are a dead ringer for the only worldly boyfriend I ever got up enough nerve to introduce to my parents by way of taking him to the Sunday meeting 30 years ago. Same full beard, hair - minus the extra cloth but....I think he had plaid pants on and reeked of pot. BTW: Is that odor one of the SEVEN PERFUMES OF THE BIBLE I keep seeing on here?
Eureka!
Is that where we'd be going?
Let me get my toga.
Dating myself, but you are a James Taylor, (singer) look-alike, when he had hair back in the 70's. Edited to add: BTW, cute!
