I had cleared off much of my bookshelf making room for a VARIETY of "worldly" books - my bookshelf is now so colorful instead of the drab brown of all the years past! When my dad passed away, I tossed much of his bookshelf, but kept some of the older publications - but now I wish I'd kept more. There's times when you would like to look back at some of the ridiculous thoughts proclaimed to be "truth" - I did keep the 1975 Yearbook which is interesting with much about Russell and the early days - also, the Babylon book and Paradise book and others of the oldest stuff. I have come to realize that there could be some benefit to keeping some of it to help others see the falsity of the cult also. So my suggestion is to just pack it away in the basement or garage for a while as you go through the exit process and eventually you'll know what you want to do with it all.

I Threw Out My NWT Today.... I am officially a cult free household.
by shamus indid you throw your trash out?
how long did you keep it?
stupidly, i felt awful about fading, and went through my huge collection of bound crap, making sure that my name was nowhere on the cult material, and dropped off three large boxes at the kingdumb hall one night.

Warning all Canadians............
by Gadget in.......gadgets coming to canada!.
i've been looking round for a holiday for this summer, and found for virtually the same price i could fly to canada and go backpacking.
i know i want to go down to niagara falls, but i'm still looking at all the guides to see which other places i want to go to, and working out if i'm best off hiring a car or using the bus/train to get around.

Hi Gadget:
I would highly recommend that when in Niagara Falls - you don't miss the chance to go on THE MAID OF THE MIST boat that takes you right out on the water down to the bottom of the falls. It's awesome! Only costs about 8 bucks and you'll love it !
Have a great trip!

I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I only even read about it in the paper. I'd never be able to or want to view it - just knowing that he is someone's son - I don't know how a parent could ever get over that having happened - loving my sons as much as I do, I'm devastated for the family as I'm sure all are.

Hi Bonezz-
Please share a greeting and a big hug with your mom from me & mine. I'm glad you are there for each other and can support one another in the choice you've made to be FREE. Enjoy each day together.

Do you fear the big A and does the conflict impact your actions?
by Maverick inon another tread this point came up.
scotsman posted a comment about a certain poster being gay, and i do not know or care if this is true or not, and in conflict over the fear of dying at armageddon for this "sin".
do any of you fear the big a because of your lifestyle?

This is a sad thought to share but, two days before my father took his life, I had taken him to the Dr. for his severe depression and anxiety and the Dr. asked him if there was something he was afraid of - he hesitated and then answered, "yes, I fear the end times that Jesus Christ foretold." The war in Iraq had just begun and he felt that was all part of the end coming soon. When I called one old timer brother/ friend of his to tell him of Dad's death, his very first thought was, " gosh, he's gonna miss THE BIG SHOW!"
As far as me,
No fear here.

JW Mental Health
by Evesapple ini found these two references very interesting.....i reflected on the mentality of the witnesses in my old congregations in janesville, wisconsin....i realised they weren't a 'happy' people because they had the "truth", they were in truth happy because of being all medicated (prozac).

What do you do when Elders (or Parents) come calling?
by M@el5trom inthe subject pretty much is my question, but here is a little background - i have recently made the decision to fade away, but have been relatively inactive as a jw for a couple years.
i live in the same town i grew up in, and at one time was a ms and regular pioneer.
therefore, a couple of elders, and my dad, make a point of stopping by to see how we (my wife and i) are doing.

HELLO, I AM 4JWY'S 17 YEAR OLD SON. MY ADVICE IS TO JUST TELL THE TRUTH. THAT IS WHAT I DID WITH MY PARENTS AND IT FEELS SO GOOD TO JUST SAY WHAT YOU FEEL AND NOT BE AFRAID. MY MOM LOVES ME FOR IT. SHE WASNT AFRAID TO TELL MY GRANDPA THAT WE ARE NOT COMING BACK - BE YOUR OWN PERSON AND LIVE YOUR LIFE THE WAY YOU WANT TO INSIDE.

Do jws provide care and conselling?
by badboy in.
in some of the description given to the charity commission, they give care and conselling as one of the things they do.. any details appreciated.

As life-long JW's, we had been "inactive" for nine months - my JW dad commits suicide - we get NO phone calls or visits from elders from our congregation or from dad's - other than one who called to ask, "IS IT REALLY SO??"
Do they provide care and counselling?

Trying to fade slowly....
by nemo ini am trying to fade slowly, but am finding this increasingly difficult.
i can't sit through a meeting, i had to leave at the 1/2 the other day, because of my recent enlightenment, the hypocrisy is to much for me to take.
as i left you could see the looks on people faces, "oh she's just not spritual enough".

Hi Nemo:
Per shotgun's "swimming", I posted this yesterday on a different thread, excuse the repetition but it's applicable:
Quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson -
" BE NOT THE SLAVE OF YOUR OWN PAST ~ PLUNGE INTO THE SUBLIME SEAS, DIVE DEEP, AND SWIM FAR, SO YOU SHALL COME BACK WITH SELF-RESPECT, WITH NEW POWER, WITH AN ADVANCED EXPERIENCE, THAT SHALL EXPLAIN AND OVERLOOK THE OLD."
All the best to you Nemo,
