I know a woman that was married and had an abortion. Her husband went to the elders and she was disfellowshipped for conduct unbecoming of a christian. I also know of some of the young brothers were disfellowshipped or disassociated for joining the military. One guy came back after serving in the army for many years and was reinstated and is now a ministerial servant.

by AK - Jeff ina few years back a 'sister' in our hall was df'd for marrying a disfellowshipped man.
they were both free to remarry 'scripturally' - in their late-middle years of life.
i asked one of the local pharrasies why?

The "bodily reserrection of Christ"doctrine and John 2:19-22

When I talk to born-again christians about this doctrine the first place they always run to in the Bible is John 2:19-22. The verse simple states: Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up. The Jews thought he was talking about the temple building. But John explains that he was talking about the temple of his body." From these verses born-agains have created a very far-fetched doctrine that makes no sense scriptually. First of all there are so many questions that come to mind if we believe that Jesus arose in his fleshly body and took it to heaven. First of all the most important question I would ask is how is Jesus if he took his body to heaven going to use the bathroom? If it is the same body that he died in then he would have to be able to use the bathroom. The first thing born-agains will say is that Jesus has a "glorified"body now. But my question will be did Jesus arise in the "same" body or a different body? If he arose in a glorified body then christians cannot say it was his same body. If it is a glorified body then it was a different body and John 2:19:-22 falls at the wayside. I feel that John 2:19-22 is used in a figutive way comparing the temple building to Jesus' life that was going to be restored in 3 days. Why would 1 Pet 3: 18-19 say that Jesus was put to death in the flesh and made alive in the spirit" if Jesus had his fleshly body? And the argument that christians use about the word "soma"always meaning a fleshly body is wrong because Paul uses "soma" in 1 Corinthians when he describes physical bodies and "spiritual bodies" and he uses them in the "dative" or comparison so they cannot mean the same. 1 Cor 15:45 Jesus is said to be a live-giving spirit Paul would have never said this about Jesus if Paul believed in the bodily reserrection doctrine of Jesus. And the all important question that I would like to know from christians is if God is a Spirit and those worshipping him in spirit and truth how could Jesus if he is God be flesh when the bible specifically states God is a Spirit? This kills all of the Jesus in his "human nature" mumble jumbo that I have heard. I think the truth of the matter is that Jesus arose in the spirit just like God is in the spirit and Jesus is residing along side of God in a spiritual body.

I used to wonder when I was a kid how is everybody that is reserrected going to communicate with each other? Many Spanish people will have to learn another language or will english people have to learn all the languages of the dead people such a french, italian, german etc? Will Jehovah give the earth a worldwide foreign language class so they can witness in every language? Or will the kingdom hall be up and running again for the dead ones to learn the "truth" with elders teaching foreign language? And also I used to wonder if everyone is going to be the same age how will parents be different from their children? If we all are going to look the same age. Will babies be born adults? I remember when I was little an elder gave a talk about the new system and said that all of the meat that will not be used after Armaggeddon will be for the survivors to eat then the world will become vegetarian after the meat is consumed. So according to him we will have a big "pig out"day after Armaggeddon then veggies for eternity.

my mother told me that milton henschel died in 1993 and i have not heard of anybody ever replacing him?

The Christian Congregation of JW's, the Religious Orders of JW's, I don't know what the other 5 corporations are does anyone out there know? My mom said that The Watchtower is expanding so rapidly that they had to create these 7 new corporations to supervise different functions within JW's. The Christian Congregation of JW's oversees doctrinal matters, Religious Orders of JW's oversees missionary work and pioneering matters etc; My mom is boasting that this is a sign that Jehovah's spirit is overflowing within the WTS because we are near the end of this system of things and that Jehovah will speed things up near the end. I have heard this before.

What "cult-like" practices have you noticed with Born-Again Christians?

she has been asking me for years to come to her church since i left jw's so i finally went with her a few sundays ago.

She has been asking me for years to come to her church since I left JW's so I finally went with her a few Sundays ago. I must admit I was nearly scared "speechless". People were running around the church and a few members were banging their heads on the floor and foaming at the mouth. I could not believe what I was seeing. My neighbor kept telling me that it was alright because they had the Holy Ghost in them and there was nothing wrong with their behavior. I looked at her as if she had lost her mind and as I got up to leave the church 2 pastors were blocking the door with the collection plate and would not let me leave until I put some money in the collection plate. After demanding them to get out of my way I left and promised myself that I would never step foot in that church again. My neighbor got an attitude with me because I left and she felt that I was rude for doing so. I told her how could she sit in a church service where people are acting as if they are on LSD. I thought the JW's were bad but this took the cake. I am curious to find out how many of you posters have noticed '"cult-like"behavior from born-again christians and what were the behaviors or practices that made you uncomfortable. My friend at work told me that her church bought the minister and his wife a rolls royce for their birthdays. It is funny because my co-worker can barely pay her rent and she also takes the bus to work but yet she will help buy her minister and his wife rolls royce. This is why many people have washed their hands to churches today. What are your thoughts on this subject?

i would have born-again christians tell me that it was impossible for jesus and michael to be the same person and that jw's invented this doctrine.

Fast forward to 2004 while I was reading a book on Jesus I noticed that some of the early church fathers thought Michael was Jesus Christ I almost fell out of my chair. The Born-Agains had told me some false information about this doctrine. So that made me investigate some more into the matter. To my surprise Martin Luther thought Jesus and Michael were the same person, Ireanous of the 2nd century thought that Jesus was Michael, Justin Martyer thought that Jesus was an "angel". I was totally confused by now because when I DA'd myself I told the elders that this was JW's made up doctrine and now 15 years later I find out that I was wrong. I compared the scriptures that talk about Michael and I don't care what anybody says I believe that the scriptures proves that Jesus and Michael are one and the same. Dan 12:1-2 was the convincing scriptures for me. Michael has authority over the "dead" waking up and in John 5:28-29 Jesus has authority over the dead rising. In Dan 12:1-2 it talks about 2 classes of dead rising up the good for and the bad for judgement just like at John 5:28-29. Michael is said to fight the Devil with Michael and "his" angels. Jesus is said to come to do battle with "his" angels. Why would the bible say that Michael and "his" angels and not Michael and "the" angels if Michael had no authority over the angels? Micahel is called the great "Prince" and Jesus is call the "Prince of Peace" if Michael was a lesser prince would not the bible somehow distinguish the two in the OT? Jesus comes to reserrect to dead with an "archangel's" voice why not a cherub angel's voice or God's voice if Jesus was not an angel? Born Agains argue that Michael refused to rebuke Satan over Moses body in Jude so this they feel proves the two cannot be the same but by the same argument Jesus told the mother that had two sons that sitting on the right hand of God is not for him to decide but God's decision but why did Jesus say that "ALL" authority has been given to me and all judging has been given to me but he could not decide about the mother's sons sitting at God's right hand? I think JW's are right on this doctrine about Jesus being Michael. I still feel that the JW's are wrong on some other doctrinal matters but I feel they are right on the money with this one.

A girl I work with told me the other day that she is going to the elders and ask them to "reinstate" her for the 4th time. I told her she must be out of her mind. Why would any JW go through all of that headache? She said that she is afraid for her small children and she does not want them to die at "Armaggeddon." I tried to tell her to just live her life reading her bible and praying to Jehovah and Jesus and living a good Spiritual life without organized religion. She started crying and told me that everytime she tries to do right "temptation" comes running towards her. She is a single woman with small children and her problem with staying sex-free just keep getting her Df'd or publicly reprooved. She has been DF'd 3 times that I know of and publicly reprooved twice. What advice would you(posters) give her? Do you know anyone that was DF'd or publicly reprooved over three times? I feel once a DF'd JW you will always be in trouble with the elders. I left and never went back.

If JW's were to set another "Armaggeddon" date , what would it be? 2030? _?

i fell on the floor laughing because my friend was serious about it.

I fell on the floor laughing because my friend was serious about it. I said I know the Watchtower is not teaching that bologna and he said no they were not but this is his own interpretation. I told him that Herbert has 7 letters in it and Bush has 4 letters in it so where does he get 666. He said that George has 6 letters and W. is the middle name before Herbert and Bush so all together you have 18 letters 6+6+6 GeorgeWHerbertBush =18 letters. So this is a new one folks that George Bush is the anti-christ or the 666. People can make the Bible say anything that they wish but again what date would the JW's set for the end of the world if they were to set a "new" date?

Depressed and doubting...

it's all the middle east and the "peace and security" talk.
i feel like armageddon is coming.. the brainwashing never ends.

I have been there. I left in 1991 at the age of 26 and trust me all I did for the first couple of years was sit in fear of being destroyed at "Armaggeddon". I was a basket case for years because I thought maybe the JW's were right after all and maybe I should go back and beg the elders for forgiveness and ask to be Reinstated. Well when I went to the elders a couple of years ago and talked about Reinstatment they gave me such a horrible look that I walk away and never went back to the Kingdom Hall again. That was in 2000. One year before 9-11. After 9-11 I realized as Mulan so perfectly put it that it is all a mind game that religions instill in people to keep them in controll. The word is "fear" religions use "fear" as a gun at a member's head. If you live in fear you will always be jumping at a new date or some new war or some terrorist attack etc; I no longer dance to the "fear and tremble" song. I hold my head up high and just smile at how brainwashed I was.

I have always wondered about this myself. When I was growing up Birthdays, Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th fo July etc; were all forbidden. I don't know if they were disfellowshipping acts but I did hear of a sister that was put on "public reproof" for having christmas lights in her house. I think holidays has always been frowned upon just like R-rated movies but I don't think a JW would be Df'd for going to a R-rated movie. He will probably be removed as an elder or MS not allowed to give talks etc; I think the same thing with Holidays and BDs. My mom has always said "Happy BD" on my birthdays.
