A JW friend told my husband and I that the info about Brooklyn locking it's doors is totally untrue and that she heard from "an unsolicited source, that the brothers in Brooklyn welcomed people in and even offered machinery and equipment to aid in the rescue efforts". I know she is being given typical WT spin, most likely the equipment was sent to other JW's. The person who told her is in "housekeeping" at Bethel. Probably some poor "sister" cleaning toilets was give the info by the ones "taking the lead" up there.

Ashamed
by Marvin Shilmer inbut whoever has this worlds means for supporting life and beholds his brother having need and yet shuts the door of his tender compassions upon him, in what way does the love of god remain in him?
little children, let us love, neither in word nor with the tongue, but in deed and truth.1 john 3:17-18 nwt .
you must love your neighbor as yourselfmatt 22:39 nwt.

Marvin, thank you for the post. I too feel ashamed of the apathy that has been displayed. That I was a devout practicer of this religion. Love for fellow man and conscience moves one to look searchingly into the doctrine of the Society and realize they "honor with thier lips, but thier heart is far removed...." I'm happy to have rejoined the human race.
Nicodemus, your words spoken were very thought provoking to anyone who may question whether or not Brooklyn Headquarters and the GB could possibly be our Creator's visible representatives here on earth. It seems to me that it is they who have "Apostatsized" from Christ's original teachings. Thank you for reminding us of what the scripture in Luke teaches.

With all there real estate and access to individuals that could voluteer, I wonder if Bethel feels moved to open it's to the many caring people that are there working ferverishly to rescue the victims in this tragedy. Would Bethel donate sandwiches for even offer water to the thristy volunteers? My son's classes have been cancelled at NYIT today and his dorm is in the heart of Bethel. He mentions the many many caring efforts of New Yorkers as they come together to help one another. People making sandwhiches donating clothing etc. Will the JW's continue thier mindless schedule of selfish apathy and disinterest in the human race as they head out the door to their "assignments" and "field service". I am glad to have rejoined the human race with all of it's uncertainties. I am glad to not be part of the mindset instilled that makes them living waiting not to die. It is in sadness I write this post. I woke up this morning and felt a heavy feeling in my stomach realizing what has been unfolding there and all the pain felt among the rescuers and victims and thier families. I always loved to go to NYC and look at the Twin Buildings WTC and sit and watch the New York Skyline from a favored NJ restaraunt during the setting sun. I loved waking up in the morning and if I were in the area see the sun shining on these magnificent peices of architecture. I will miss them in my lifetime. I am angry at the sensless distruction and the dancing in the streets over in Palistine. It seems to me the same mindset is among JW's. They are dancing in their hearts in their selfish expectations. I have read some of the comments on Bridgette's thread and it is so sad that I at one time could have been this way.

My son who is still there in Manhattan at his college Dorm said it is so incredible how everyone is so kind and helpful to oneanother. People were standing by the Brooklyn Bridge giving water to tired passersby, helping each other, holding each other. All working together. People are going on line to donate blood. When I think of this act I think of the scripture, great love hath no man than to give his life for another. Those rescue workers who gave thier lives before the building came down. Did one Jehovah's Witness give so much as a sympathetic look. They were too busy rushing out to the Kingdom Hall tonight to save their pathetic mindless asses. My husband and I sat glued to the TV today with our hearts crying for the losses and watching the sheer humanity of it all. We realized we had not eaten all day, so we went to get a take out pizza to bring back home. On the way we passed the Kingdom Hall we used to attend. IT WAS PACKED at 7:32. Unheard of for this congregation in this area. They are problably all in their gloating and feeling so superior to all on the outside who are derserving of death. Their thoughts are just as murderous as those who follow Ben Laden. Peace to all tonight. May we all feel the humanitarian love for all those touched by this Tragedy.

This is all so OVERWHELMINGLY SAD. My children have friends who work there. My son is attending New York Institute of Technology, and his dorm is right there. He just told us he is ok and he and his roommate are in the Dorm watching the news. We were not able to get in touch with him because cell phones have been down and all circuits have been busy. He wants to get out of the city and come home tonight but I don't know if it will be easy. I am not sure NYIT will be open for classes tomorrow. His friend just took a job at the WTC. I am also worried about someone else I know who works there. I can't imagine any religion being joyful over events like this and saying "god is good" I wish I could go over there and voluteer to help somehow. It is something that we never thought about as Jehovah's Witnesses. But now the thought of the people that were in that building when it fell and the pictures on the news are heartwrenching, and at times like this we are all brothers and sisters wanting to be there to help one another.

This is so upsetting. My son is there in Manhattan at NYIT, and I can't get in touch with him. Another thing that is so upsetting is You Know's "wager" thread when he implied he knew something was going to happen. Does anyone have any info about the area around Bethel?
My son's Dormitory for NYIT is near there by Henry St.
