Hopefully things will look up for you soon, this happens to many, perhaps most, people that leave the cult but eventually they adjust well to the new environment. The problem is that there are many negative even crippling ideas left by the cult that can interfere with normal adjustment to the new life eg fear of a coming doom (armageddon), fear of being an enemy of god (jehovah hates those opposing "his" organisation) fear of the world (it is owed stock and barrel by the demons). And fears do funny things to human psychology as those involved in manipulating the masses, the FDS being a good example of these, know so well.
Have you tried to think through what shortcircuits your emotional world? How to break down the complex of negative ideas produced by the FDS? That they are a total travesty who for some odd reason call themselves christians even the only true christians when they are really judaic at heart promoting judaic interests? The ones pretending to be your best friends when they are in fact your worst enemies?

Your story is very typical and it shows that the JWs are nothing but a loveless and judgemental society that has entirely failed to build the christian personality they boast so much about. They focus on preaching because that is what serves the interests of the WTS since its products get sold and the profits keep coming in.
Too much control over the issues of preaching and attending meetings since anyone failing to reach their standards quickly gets stigmatised as a week or inactive brother/sister.
In such a stern environment you are damned if you don't do them and damned again if you do them. -

BFD, life is getting always dearer but petrol for you is less than half price compared to the UK. Now for a driver that fills up say with 40L per week the tax paid is £26.40 and over a year it becomes £1372 = $2744 which is a lot of money.
And 20 cigarettes cost typically £5.50 and out of that £4.22 is tax. Someone smoking 20 per day will pay £1540 of cigarette tax in a year.
It's a country that likes taxing heavily. -

BFD out of that typical price of £1.08 per liter, £0.50 is a flat rate fuel duty and around £0.16 (about 15% of the total price) is value added tax (VAT) so the total tax for the government is £0.66 per litre or 61% of the fuel price. In 2005 the government got a handsome £23 billion revenue from fuel taxes.
I suppose some of it goes on the national health service but as it increasingly becomes second rate with long waiting times for operations many people turn to private medical insurance. -

it started 4 years ago - but it moved slowly past the weeks and months of 'research', trying to find where i fit, then into an understanding that i didn't - at least not conventionally, fit anywhere, religiously speaking.

You are fortunately on the right tracks now, whatever it is in the JWs that deadens minds and lives, many people have experienced that insidious poison. I suppose the destructive authority symbol of the JWs, jehovah, is at the centre of it. They choose jehovah because Christ is not severe enough to be the destructive authority symbol they seek. Yet He is the direct head of the faithful, not jehovah.

Average unleaded petrol (gas) price in London is £1.08 = $2.15 per litre.
1 US gallon = 3.79 L
3.79 x $2.15 = $8.15
That's the price per US litre equivalent, $8.15 not $11.00. Still very expensive I suppose in comparison to US fuel prices. -

The other group will not come out so openly about it because they fear losing a lot of money in law suits, that's why they produced the silly two witness rule in the first place. In the hope that through it no JW pedophile would ever be caught. They are not silly enough to act in the presence of witnesses.

I also feel it's a wild story put out for the purpose of manipulating the JW masses into becoming devoted to the self serving, man made organisation that is perennially deceiving them. Give them a high standard to reach making them feel ashamed and worthless because they are so far beneath a fellow JW.
Also make them feel insecure about what the future could hold for them = fostering the crippling persecution complex. -

They have different ideologies some are atheists some believers some became Christians, some Moslems, some pagans so there is no unity as in the JWs forced though that may be from above.
For this reason being so disparate in nature they have failed to unite and overthrow the great adversary the WTS something that urgently needed to be done also for the good of those trapped in that dreadful travesty.
Moaning about the JWs 24/7 and 90 pence might buy you a cup of coffee but it won't achieve anything of lasting importance. -

Doing more will make you feel worse because things go more out of balance when comparing what a JW gives compared to s/he receives. The JWs as a community or even more so as the WTS organisation (corporation) demand a lot and give little if anything in return.
That creates a lot of inner turbulance especially to those that do not believe any longer God will reward later for all the aggro a JW has to go through.
