Hamilcarr, man throughout his life is beset by two forces by two currents, one that pulls him down from below and is the inferior animal nature and the force of the spirit which seeks to elevate and ennoble man. A man ruled and inspired by the inferior nature is vastly different from one ruled and inspired by the spiritual nature. One force is regressive, devouring, and tends towards zero point, zero activity while the other is progressive and tends towards creativity and infinity.

There is so much evidence around us to prove an Intelligent creator.
by nicolaou inthat's an 'ever so slightly' adapted quote from tophat on another thread; http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/108341/2880755/post.ashx#2880755.
i've been really dismissive of god/s, religion, faith and the abandoning of reason but when it comes to the 'argument from design', well you just have to give it a bit more .
respect?

This desire for perfectionism, greater awareness, order and beauty is a characteristic human trait. Human beings also have a conscience (hopefully) and are answerable for their actions. It's a lot deeper than a mere deceptive surface of things it's a central and distinguishing part of human nature. Anything worthwhile is born only in the vast expanse of the human spirit.

More "new light"? Has anyone got the July 15th WT yet?
by slimboyfat ini hear there is more "new light" in this magazine.
nothing as big as the "generation" change or scrapping 1935 for the annointed.
it might be something to do with some of jesus' parables.

If you think the WTS is interested in making any real doctrinal changes that will do away with its venomous cultic nature then carry on dreaming. That can't happen because if (we suppose) it did then the WTS operation will fall apart in no time. Big corporations hate losing on their profitability let alone doing completely away with it.

Local needs: 40% of the congregation are irregular at meetings
by truthseeker inwell, our local needs talk was a bit out of the ordinary - normally it's something mundane like improving bible studies.. after harping on about the good things the congregation is doing, we got to the meat.. there are 100 publishers in the cong - 40% of them are irregular meeting attenders.. the elder said that those who are irregular at meetings are also irregular on field service.. he also said the elders would continue to shepherd these ones, yet most of us never get as shepherding call.. he said that those who've lost their joy feel this way because they don't fellowship often enough and lack appreciation for sacred things.. there are those who are liberal, manifest an independent spirit and have worldly associations.. he even said that those who need to hear this counsel are those who are missing.. .
oh well.
i suppose it's good news..

Not surprising, people must be bored to death hearing the same old monotonous stuff time and again. And the mindset of it, for ever criticisms, pointing out problems and offering "advice" on solving them but never one real practical solution to anything.
Fortunately the inspiration has totally gone out of the FDS and all they can offer is boring and dull old stuff. -

I have never doubted the existence of God and angels for that matter. Only in a few short instances I tried to doubt it but then realised that this was not really on, it is too obvious that there is a creator.

It must have been uncomfortable having to sleep on the floor for two nights, no food and even worse no drink for almost two days. But I suppose he knew that sooner or later he would be freed in a building teeming with people. Strange it took so long to be rescued. And why wasn't he banging on the doors or walls of the lift like mad to have better chances of being heard?

The nature of man is dual, it has an animal part and certainly a unique spiritual part that puts man in a league totally above that of animals which can not speak, think, create, direct, walk on two legs, do not have a unique face and voice (strict individuality) as each human does. I would say any similarities are coincidental rather than essential. I don't know about other people but I don't consider myself to be an animal. The whole idea of man's fulfillment is to be what animals are not that is spiritual reaching out for the more complicated, the more developed.

I believe it's a case of mental constitution some people can live through pretending to be something they are not, after being forced to do so by the unreasonable behaviour of their religious leaders. At the end of the day someone that is inactive and offers nothing of value to the WTS has nothing to feel guilty about and can even damage them on the internet, incognito.

So I was thinking about the earthquake we had last week...
by TheSilence inand i was thinking about my reaction to it.
i woke up at 4:40 in the morning because the bed was shaking and the thought process in my head went along these lines, "the bed is shaking.
mike is out of town.

The strange psychology of fear cultivated by the JWs, earthquakes certainly nothing new under the sun same with wars, famines and pestilence the famous composite sign. It's just creating a false sense of urgency to serve a hidden agenda = mind control techniques.

If a JW girl falls pregnant to a 'worldly person'...before marriage??
by Lantana ini've had many encounters with jw's throughout the years and i've found them to be decent, caring people.
i've attending meetings, read a number of awake!
and watchtower publications and so on and so forth.. the book 'crisis of conscious' by ray franz was really eye-opening for me and served as a strong warning for those about to enter the organisation...its easy to fill in the blanks from there -- i never became a jw.

Welcome and how fortunate you were in having the sense not to get too deeply involved with the JWs and become lost in a maze of strange doctrines and never ending deceit.
A JW girl of any age that becomes pregnant without being married will be in serious trouble with the JWs and will almost certainly be expelled. Given that pregnancy out of marriage means fornication (not likely to be due to artificial insemination) which is a serious disfellowshipping offense and any show of repentance is unlikely to be heeded.
