Well, if you went to Europe expecting to be disliked you might be, but that's true anywhere you go. I've lived in different parts of Europe and traveled around Europe for many years and I've never felt rejected or attacked for being American. Lord knows I've been disliked for other things, and I've had my accent made fun of a couple of times, but Europeans mostly seem to like Americans, every where I've been. I've met Palestinians and Kurds and Iraqis and Iranians and Pakistanis and Turkish too, I never felt any hatred, they were always perfectly normal people. Sometimes they've discussed American foreign policy, sometimes they've liked it and sometimes they've not liked it, but I never felt they hated me or America, whatever their political views.

I also haven't noticed racism being better or worse anywhere I've been. Sometimes it's different, slightly different groups being the butt of it, but it's always the same. And football hooligans always seem to include a few people with a mob mentality who get out of control.

CZAR's Latest Humiliation - this one's military!

yes yes, ladies and gents, i was a'walking and a'talking mighty strong, but it turns out that old age is a'bitin me in the arse.. well, i went down to the navy recruiter.

i'm not eligible for joining the navy for two reasons:.

1) i have been on antidepressants.

You're not half a man, you're a whole man who can't join the Navy. Are there no other options for a military career? I saw a tv program once about people who really fight the odds to do what they want to. One was a dwarf who wanted to be a surgeon and he had to put up with so much crap, but he did it in the end. And another was a girl with two heads (I am not making this up) who's passion in life was volley ball. She had to have a major operation on her spine because the extra weight on it was making it curve more and more. Then she had to go through intensive physiotherapy but dammit if she wasn't back out there on the volleyball court as soon as she could be. This program made me realise persistence is the key to getting what you really want. Why not keep trying different avenues?

like many dubs prior to then, i was, and am still, a rabid fan of the noble game of soccer.

england had just won the world cup and the atmosphere had been so feverish that the wt study on the day of the final had actually been brought forward so as to avoid a clash of interests.. .

Yes, I was afraid I would never get a chance to wear mini-skirts. When I was finally old enough to get the hell out of the house, mini-skirts were out of fashion. By the time they were back in again, my knees were too saggy for me to wear them. I will never forgive JWs for this. I also thought I would never get to have a boyfriend. Fortunately, I did finally manage to achieve that. (I realise this is not nearly and deep as signifant as soccer, but...you asked.)

i realize that the subject that i've chosen here can indeed arouse the emotions, but i believe that most here have control of their emotions and can therefore be reasonable while discussing this topic.

I think it's dangerous to think that you can guess what God thinks, and I imagine God finds it ridiculous when we try. But come on, you're thinking with the group brain here, and ignoring your heart. This is a young man who died in service to his fellow citizens. HIs family and his community are proud of him and hearbroken to lose him. It is uncharitable to nitpick over a picture of a gun in a church when people are grieving over his death. There are probably people on this board who have lost friends and relatives in this or other wars, how do you think it makes them feel?

And I find it peculiar that a group of people so obsessed with wanting almost everyone on earth to die as soon as possible think of themselves as pacifists. People who walk around hoping for mass destruction would normally be considered murderous as well as mentally unbalanced.
