  YESTERDAY'S ASSEMBLY SUCKED........

  well, i got dragged, kicking and screaming talked in to going to the assembly yesterday as a friend of mine was in the drama.

  what a freaking waste of time interesting experience.

  first of all, i had a tough time squeezing my larger than life ass bum into a seat that looked like it was made for a house-elf small child.

  That's odd my Mom called and told it was the BEST ASSEMBLY EVER. Maybe you went to wrong one and it was really good.

  Luke's great omission

  in looking at a harmony of the synoptic gospels it becomes quite visible that luke generally follows mark's gospel as his primary source yet tweeking and adjusting when he felt necessary and supplimenting mark with q material.

  however luke seems to have deliberately omitted the whole section from mark 6:45 - 8:10. it has been argued that this section of mark was not in the copy that luke used as his source.

  there are other resons to believe that in fact it is true that this section was by a later hand than the bulk of the text.

  There was a great Frontline about this (here). It was about 3 hours long and I watched it 4 or 5 times. There is no doubt in my that the gospels are a lot fabrication.

  Leave it in Gods hands

  i just read in a post by sandy that a witness used this statement: "leave it in gods hands", and i just realised that witnesses say this all the time.

  but what complete crap it is!

  what if we all walked round saying that about everything, never take responsibility for anything.

  My Dad kept on saying "Leave it in Jah's hands" to me when I decided to fade. I talked about Jesus illustration about the woman who had to incessantly knock on the judge's door to get justice. The only way she could get just was by means of persistence and doing it herself. If Jesus wanted us to leave everything in Jah's hands, he would never have used this illustration. He agreed but didn't really accept it.

  Demonized Software...

  how does the society view software or media that seems to be from the devil?

  if i'm watching a satanic ritual file downloaded from a web site, is that file demonized?

  if the original file is possessed and gets duplicated, are all the other duplicated files possessed as well?

  I was having a similar conversation with my Dad. He was going on and on about how active the demons are. How many things are demonized or "demon inspired".
  
  I finally told him that him attributing everything to Satan and demons to be unhealthy. Then I told him he was borderline schizophrenic. He got mad. I don't understand why ;P.
  
  Anyway, this paranoia with Satan and demons waaaay to prevelant in JWs.

  Big problem in the congregations I've been, and even the one I attend now. BIG, BIG, BIG. Hispanics sure like their booze!
  
  I have another story from the Hispanic congs. There was a bethelite that had just left bethel. He went to his friend's bachelor party. He got extremely drunk even around other brothers. He seemed like it something normal. In other words, he was doing it bethel. Now he's and elder and still drinks heavily.

  If The Bible Is Truly The Word Of God...

  why would he leave so many loose ends?

  believe me, despite some of my comments about religion and my feelings about the bible, i do examine myself and my thinking process all of the time.

  i really do think deeply about my life and the lives of my family, and i really try to examine how i feel.

  If prophecy is there to help people see the "sign" of the time of the end, why is it so confusing and there is no clear interpretation? And how would you ever be able to verify a true prophet?
  
  I think it was P.T. Barnum who said "people want to be fooled". By giving a vague propecy any outcome and application can be made. I make a significant parallel between psychics and many prophecies in the Bible. Both are vague and open to interpretation.
  
  Just think of the prophesies about 607. You can't even pin down a good starting point for it. Rather there are multiple possible starting points. That way, you judge it based on algebra. Something happened on this day (1914) so something MUST have happened here (607,537). Or if something happened on this day, then something must have happened then and that proves the Bible right.

  Where is the MONEY REALLY GOING? -- Special Assembly Days, etc

  i have always wondered why it cost so much to "rent" the space used for local special assembly days and circuit assemblies.... in our case, the society built a large assembly hall, on donated farm land (= free), in the middle of some corn fields 20 miles outside of columbus, ohio... the property has a couple of apartments where some of the travelling overseers live, who help with the upkeep of the building.

  cleaning the building was taken care of because of our "privilege" to go out the day before the assembly to get it in good shape (free housekeeping and maintenance work).. so, the society owns the building.

  it was built on free land.

  All of this is the way it was when I stepped down in 1995 here in the U.S. Your mileage may vary.
  
  That's the way it was as of 2003 when I was still doing accounting at assemblies.
  
  I might be wrong but it seems to me that they have NEVER declared a surplus at an assembly.
  
  I told this story before on another thread but here it is again. I was at an assembly that actually had made a profit for all expenses on Saturday. The Assembly Overseer gets a run down of all expenses/contributions. He was in the accounting room and actually had the Accounting Overseer be "creative" and double check all expenses to make sure they weren't missing anything. Well, nothing was missing from the expenses. They ended up announcing that there was still a defecit.
  
  Looking back on that experience reminds of how crooked and money hungry they are. Its weird they would benefit directly from that money, yet they wanted more.

  Since you are going to use a Radeon, you will need to disipate a lot of heat. Lian Li's have a lot of fans and do it well.

  I Threw Out My NWT Today.... I am officially a cult free household.

  how long did you keep it?

  stupidly, i felt awful about fading, and went through my huge collection of bound crap, making sure that my name was nowhere on the cult material, and dropped off three large boxes at the kingdumb hall one night.
