Where would you get married?

the thought of getting married at the kh was very depressing.

i always thought what a bore it would be, i mean afterall its a very special day in your life why do it at such a boring place?

i always thought about going to an exotic location for mine.. what about you?

I think getting married in a hot air balloon in the sky over the Northern California Wine Country would be a much more exciting way to tie the knot than to do so in a Kingdom Hall.

Anyone Read The Rise and Fall of the THIRD RIECH?

i found this book truly was the worldwide best selling classic about.

the most infamous era of our time.. author william l. shirer.

this work goes into explict details, about the nazi concentration camps.

I read Shirer's book back in the 1960s when I was in High School. Very detailed, over a thousand pages. Also read John Toland's biography of Hitler. Toland revealed a different side of Hitler that has been ignored by many historians.

However, it is true that Shirer writing in the 1950s didn't have access to many recently declassified documents. Interestingly, the JWs are mentioned in Alexander Dallin's 1958 book, GERMAN RULE IN RUSSIA 1941-1945. Dallin said that once the Nazis had conquered the Soviet Union that Himmler planned to resettle some JWs in Russia to convert the population to the Watch Tower and making the Russians more docile.

Question for xJW historians

for those of you who have an interest in jw history, and have studied it, what do you see as the similiarities and differences between russell and rutherford.

now, i am not looking for superficial answers like, they were both full of shit.

i am looking for some content here.

Hi Larc,

Russell and Rutherford came from very different backgrounds. Russell came from a an affluent urban setting. He and his sister were their parents only children so Russell got more attention from his father and mother than Rutherford who came from a more humble rural background. Rutherford was only one of eight children. Since he wasn't the baby of the family its doubtful that his mother would have doted on him as Russell's mother had done. Russell came from privilege, Rutherford had to fight for his position in life.

As a young man Russell remained aloof from politics, where Rutherford dove in head first into the local political arena. In 1896 Rutherford campaigned for William Jennings Bryan, the famous Democrat-Populist, whose Cross of Gold speech is a classic. Though Bryan lost Presidency to William McKinnley, Rutherford adopted many Populist ideas, which he later incorporated into the Watch Tower belief structure once he seized the presidency in 1917. A politican skilled in backroom tactics, Rutherford easily outmaneovered his opponents and established a 25 year dictatorship over the Watch Tower. Rutherford, not Russell, was the true founder of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

President Bush's speech

i wanted to hear the president's speech tonight, but can't stand listening to the man.

he has a prepared speech but he keeps saying nuc-you-lar instead of nuc-le-ar.

i can't stand it.. you would think his people would walk him through correct pronunciation.

Guess I must be an exception, I'm libertarian. The political liberals today want too much control over our lives. They are too much like the Watch Tower thinking they can legislate their way out of anything.

I agree with Thomas Jefferson, that government, which rules least is most effective.

News From Circuit Assembly

my sister called this morning at the crack of dawn, to inform me of some info.. from the circuit assembly over this past weekend.i suppose this is new light.

although she did not put it in those words.seems there is a new do in our .

neck of the woods, he gave the public talk sunday and i quote".

Thanks for the update. It will be interesting to hear the reports from other Circuit Assemblies. Though the new DO in your sister's circuit could be overzealous in his presentation, it sounds like he was following a Society outline. Well they have to do something to distract attention from the real issues. Looks like they are going back to their old habits.

I am very curious as to why you write in such bad form when you know how to edit others' grammatical errors. Are you trying to attact attention to yourself? Or are you trying to disquise your postings so the elders won't find out that you are visiting this site and "can" you for bad associations?
