  How Come I Rarely See People In Field Service, Vs The 1980-1990s Doing House2House?

  field service hours have hit new records each year, but i am seeing less people working the territory.

  where is all the time spent, that people are putting in the field ministry?

  it's been close to ten years, since i have seen people working certain territories.

  I moved to my present address in 1999 and have never had a visit by the JWs. At first I thought it was because they only came out during the week and since I worked week days I must have missed their visits. However, I retired in 2009 and except for a yearly vacation or two, both my wife and I are home most of the time. Still no JWs. My neighbors haven't seen the JWs either. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining.

  But 40 years ago I was an elder in the Congregation in whose territory I now reside. Back then we used to cover our territory at least once every three months. I left this Cong. in 1973 to serve "where the need was greater," and left my new Cong. in 1984 to quickly fade. So I don't know the current make up of my old Cong. or if they even know I now live in their territory.

  i think romney will be the guy but i have my doubts that he will beat obama because no one seems to be in the lineup that anyone wants to embrace..

  Nobody will come out of the Republican primaries a clear winner. So it will be an open Republican Convention. Therefore, it is quite possible that a "Darkhorse Candidate" will get the nomination. If the economy improves, Obama will be hard to beat. If the economy goes bust, Obama will lose. If the economy stays like it currently is, then if the Republicans nominate a moderate candidate, then it will be a very close race with the Republican favored.

  My wife and I are going to Christmas Eve services this evening. We usually don't attend Christmas Day services, too busy unwrapping the presents Santa left under our Christmas tree.

  i know i would have never, ever been interested if someone would have come to my door as a jw.

  i guess i really don't feel like i've ever had a real spiritual side to me.

  the 'truth' would have never interested me, nor would i have ever accepted a bible study with anyone who came looking for a sheeple.

  If JWism wasn't forced on me by my mother, I'd never have become a JW. Had my mother given me the freedom to make my own choice regarding religion, I probably would have become Roman Catholic, since most of my close friends at school were Catholic . As things turned out after leaving the JWs I became an Episcopalian (Anglo-Catholic).

  My feeling is that if JW parents gave their children the freedom to choose, most would reject JWism for another religion or no religion.

  If that KH was your usual "quick build" the fire may have been caused by shoddy electrical work. But I'm sure the investigators will soon be able to determine the exact cause.

  in the previous thread of this series, i called lurkers attention to the need of being discreet when contemplating an exit from the jw religion.

  i mentioned that the thread was borne as a result of the general observations i made reading old posts here and discussing with many ex-jws and their lives have gradually turned out.

  that thread alone was visited more than 2,980 times and graced with 204 contributions.

  Manny’s scheme of frightening dissatisfied JWs so that they stay in the Borg, could backfire. As in any totalitarian society, eventually the dissidents will organize underground and form a resistance movement. Look what is happening in the around the world. The Borg is not immune.

  Doubting JWs locked in a spiritual prison are not an asset to the Watchtower Corporation and will be a constant problem for the jailers. Since anyone can write in hours on a timesheet, active JWs who know the “truth about the ‘truth,’” may be more numerous than we realize.

  The Watchtower GB has never bothered to read Romans 16 which mentions women in leadership positions in the ancient church. In fact one woman, Junia, was an apostle (Romans 16:7, Revised English Bible).

  One reason for the favorable article in the December 1940 Consolation regarding blood transfusions may have to due with Judge Rutherford's health at the time. He was suffering from cancer and had undergone several operations. Whether Rutherford required a blood transfusion during surgery is not mentioned in Watchtower publications.

  But the fact that Rutherford permitted an article mentioning the benefits of blood transfusions indicates that he was not opposed to this medical procedure. Rutherford also exercised some control over Freddie Franz and his kookie ideas. However, once Rutherford joined Chuck Russell beyond the vale, Freddie was free to push his screwball opinions on the JWs, one of which was no blood transfusions for the faithful.

  How Did You Get Rid of Your Bound Volumes?

  my town will no longer collect old books like that as trash and they're pretty hard to burn.

  my solution has been to include one in every bag of used cat litter when i clean the cat boxes.

  i've gotten rid of around 30 that way and i'm about halfway there.

  I sold my set of bound volumes to a JW for $150. He must have found them helpful as he made elder the following year.

  Why burn the bound volumes when you can sell them and recoup some of your original investment.
