Have Witness Funerals and Memorial Services Changed?

after reading the thread on mickey spillane's memorial service it sounded like the jws are changing their funeral program.

or was this because of spillane's celebrity status?

in the past the witness funeral outline told the elder conducting the memorial service not eulogize the deceased, but to promote watchtower doctrines.

yesterday my girlfriend and i were walking to our car in a shopping mall parking lot when an elder and his wife drove up.

instead of running us down with his automobile, he stopped and let us cross.

he and his wife even smiled at us.

Attended first Memorial in 20 years

after a 20 year absence i attended the memorial this evening.

not surprisingly, nothing has really changed after two decades, as far as the memorial talk is concerned.

the jws were very friendly even though i wore an american flag pin in my lapel and identified myself as a devout anglican.

Are you planning anything special for Memorial?

since i never partook of the bread and wine all the years i was a jw, thought it would be fun to attend this year's memorial and sample the matzo and hopefully some kosher wine.

thought it might impress jws if i walked into the kh wearing a yarmulke and a tallith (prayer shawl).

anybody else plan to have some fun at the memorial?.

When will the JWs celebrate Memorial this year?

i haven't attended the jw memorial in 20 years and thought that it might be nice to attend this year's celebration to see if the service has changed and if they serve a better quality wine.

if anyone knows what day this week the special event will be observed, please let me know.. thanks,.

o' how precious the moment we shared not so long ago.. together we caught the rain, felt dawn, saw sunset glow.. it was so wonderful, so right, that you and i be together.. but duty called.

o' how i wanted to stay with you forever.. the wind tossed your golden tresses the day i left.. you were standing there so beautiful yet so bereft.. that was the saddest of days, the day i had to depart.. for that which is beyond control would keep us apart.. though i am home in that golden land in the west,.

i think of you always, my love, daughter of the east.. my love, a woman so beautiful, and the woman i most adore.. i will count the days till i return and hold you once more..

What is the latest on Michael Jackson?
