brief history:.
both my wife and i have faded from the borg for about 10 years.
we still maintain close relationhips with the dubs in our family on both sides.. my wife's sister has not only faded, but she has become an ordained minster, thus my mother in law calls her an "apostate" and refuses to have any contact with her.. her 4 year old daughter will stay with my family for about 2 weeks in august.
I think you need to take the firm approach w. your wife and tell her you can't support what she's thinking of doing.
If she has the trust of her sister, to keep the little one for 2 weeks, that will be History. You can bet the sister
will feel betrayed, angry, hurt, etc. It is not right to step in the middle of it like she wants to do. It will create
bad feelings that will only escalate. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Well, put Trevor: Smelly onions underestimated the amount of pain that has been caused and apologised. I think that showed humility and concern.
I was uneasy with how so many posters automatically went into the Defense mode and jumped on Smelly's comments. I felt he was being honest and open, which is what boards like this are for....aren't they?
I hope you stick around, (but I really hope you aren't serious about finding a nice JW wife...if you are NOT a JW, you should realize the burden that would put on your future children)

what would you do if you knew someone had no respect for you and only associates with you coz they have to????
for months i couldnt understand why this particular person said things to me and acted a certain way to me and it only just hit me this weekend that this person actually just doesnt respect me, doesnt respect my feelings, my thoughts nothing.

I think rather than remove yourself totally from the family gatherings, it is best if a person keeps up the communication.
The best way to handle people like you describe is to just smile at them when they say something RUDE...then say,
in a NON-sarcastic tone (this would be hard for me) "I really can't believe you would say something like that."(use this phrase and use it each time as needed)....
AND then just walk away. Keep it Simple, Short and Sweet. Then find someone else to talk to. People will see who is the
True Bitch very quickly.
I'd love to hear how it goes for you, I think it should take care of your problems. If she responds, etc. just ignore her, or
nod at her and smile. She will look Stupid.

i will be very brief on my introduction as i need to get straight to the point.
i was raised in the 'truth' from birth.
i got baptized at 16 (elder dad hassled me) and managed to do the 'slow fade' at 18 (it helped that i moved 50 miles away from home).
Hello and welcome Muse! Sounds like you have done better than many at dealing with your JW family.
I never was a JW but I did have colon cancer 5 years ago. My polyp was not benign, I had about 18 inches of colon removed, and all went well.
If your father has a good surgeon, the procedure should go just fine. It is not a fun process, but it is not as life-threatening as you may envision. Be strong, have Faith in God that he will pull your dad through, and that He will provide some peace for you too! I mainly want you to know you may be over-stressing, which I myself tend to do! So, please, take it easy on yourself.

hi, its been a few months since i last visited the forum and to be honest in that time my life has just continued to go downhill, does it ever get any easier guys, i have been so close to ending it all a few times and dont know how much longer i can take the anquish and pain which i feel every day !!!!!!!!.
i now have no job, no friends, and no desire to fight anymore, i sit here day after day just wanting to sleep so that the mental pain will go away and yet i want peace so much.. my old mum who turns 80 next month, and who has been a witness for 50 years, has been so hurt by the events that led to my dissasociation she has now stopped going to the kingdoom hall, but i can see how sad and confused she is and i feel i have caused her great hurt in her later years, she has a bad heart and looks so worn down, i am worried sick she may pass away in this condition and this is tearing me apart also.
you might remember i lost my job after 28 years after being bullied and putting in a claim of harrasment, i then started up my own business and 10 witnesses worked for me, the lies and deceit was beyond words and in the end i had to close most of the business down, after that it was only myself and a non witness friend who were working together.
Hi Betrayed, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so relieved to hear you have take the first step on the road to recovery. Remember, sometimes there are 3 steps forward, 2 steps back. But keep trudging on and with medical help and the great people on this board, you will MAKE IT!

what's the jw take on father's day?
my wife's jw and i've got two stepkids and one bio kid.
every holiday is awkward because wife lets me "celebrate" with the kids as long as she doesn't actively participate.
Hmmm....so maybe George can give a directive on their anniversary, that he doesn't believe God wants us to celebrate it; would her eyes open up at all to the stupidity of the holiday ban by the WTS? (they are allowed to celebrate anniversaries, but since he is head of household, he could put his foot down on her only real holiday and see how it feels!)

Most of the people on this board have suffered with the teachings of the JW cult....and have turned from God, which is OK if that works for them. We who have never been JW can't really fathom what years of cult-teachings can do to a person.

my jw step-son (age 7) asked me if today was father's day.
then he brought me a present.
jw wife stayed in the other room.
Well, happy non Father's day, or whatever. It would be nice to know you just gave him a hug and told him that
everyday is Father's Day, but this day is really special. What kind of relationship do you have with the kid? You
can make a real impression on him, just by showing him Non JW love. Boys, especially, need to have a man
in their lives who isn't afraid to show feelings.

Hi Goldie and welcome! What is the situation? Has the family member been baptized? Sometimes they were raised but never baptized? Is he/she married, is the spouse a JW? There are many factors.
There are people here who have success stories, but I think they are the minority. I was never a JW, but a good friend of mine who had a sister in tried for years to show her some things and finally had to accept and love her sister, and leave religion out of their conversations, in order to remain friends. It was very hard for her to do. Surprisingly, one of the sister's kids left the JW when he grew up and married. The Mom still keeps contact with him, he is not shunned at least. So that is a good thing.
I'd like to hear more about your situation.

i just joined here so i'm not completely familiar with the forum code.
well, i'm going to be baptized in less than a month and i was wondering if i can find any friends among my peers or anyone around my age.
you see, my congregation was split up almost three years ago.
I have a feeling uncle will warn her to stay away from this site. But I am saying a little prayer that she comes back
anyway ... there are so many wonderful people to learn from. She'd learn so much more by spending time here.
