I have to say, my molester is still serving as elder in my hometown congregation, to my knowlege never judicially disciplined.
Of all five of my closest girlfriends growing up, all but one had been molested. Maybe the other one was also but we've never discussed it.
None of these to my knowledge were reported to authorities.

I grew up in a very old, small kh in a residential neighborhood. We kids were brought onto the front porch to be spanked. Sometimes there was a line at the door. The neighbors started complaining about hearing all the small children screaming. So, from the platform, the parents were asked to not spank their children outside anymore; bring 'em to the bathroom to beat 'em.

This is one of my biggest issues. Kids are not developmentally able to sit quietly for an hour until they are about 7. Hitting them when they are little does nothing but make everybody miserable and doesn't produce the desired results. I was spanked and I hated going to the kh. I swatted my first child a few times at the kh but always felt guilty for it, and he hated going.
We are now a no-hitting family and have mostly well-behaved children. They all love going to church every week and doing their age-appropriate activities. What a relief!
Also, as a mother, I dreaded each meeting with a little one because I knew he would not be still and quiet and I would end up in the back with him and everyone would be looking at me and wondering why I couldn't get my son to behave.
Worship shouldn't be a burden. When it's so hard for both the children and the parents, it's just not joyful.

me and the wife were fightitng again and she asked why i can't just go back and pretend or just forget all this... she said as an athnostic you either don't belive in god or don't believe that god cares so why can't you just go and fake it... i was dumbfounded i ask her why can't you just get the f*ck out and stop faking it... she stormed out and i sat down here..... so i ask ya, if you could forget all the negatives about the wbts (i know thats a lot) and just go back like nothing had ever happened would you?
I guess I will be the first to reply to this in the affirmative. At one time, when I first began learning the truth about the truth, I wished I hadn't started on the path I was now on. It was too unbelievable, too difficult to admit my whole life had been based on a sham. There were times I researched verociously for weeks on end, then I would reach my emotional limit, throw a book across the room, have a good cry and put everything aside for a few weeks to pull myself together. It was during those times, yes, I wished I'd never learned what I was now learning.
Now, though, I've gone through the denial and the anger and the bargaining. It's such a good life now, much better than I ever could have had before.
a few years ago i started my little "collection" in a small container in my bathroom.
evertime i find a grey hair in my beard i pluck it out and put it in the container.
so far the collection has been quite "modest".. now it looks like they grey hairs in my beard are starting to gang up on me.
Let 'em come! I love the grey in my husband's beard.
i did what i was asked.
all these weeks, i did all my mother asked when it came to dealing with the matters at hand for her.
i'm nothing, if not loyal.. so over the weekend, when mother called for us to please come and deal with my relatives coming to the house to pick up boxes of my grandmother's belongings.
I'm in the same boat as cab1000. I hope that if the time comes I can be as graceful about it as Fleur.

i'm familiar with the fact that the names of the months and days of the week, wedding rings, and baptism all have pagan origins and are accepted for use by jw's.
can you guys think of anything else that jw's partake of or accept or use that has questionable origins?

my friend from my jw's days ran up to me on the street the other day and to my suprise he is no longer with the jw's.
it has been about 16 years since i last saw him.
he was a "devout" jw's and we used to "pioneer" together.
One thing I've learning from my "fade" and "rebirth" is not to clump people together anymore.
I'm sure there are evil Lutheran church leaders and loving Lutheran church leaders. I'm sure there are deceptive Catholic church leaders and honest, sincere Catholic church leaders. If I saw sin committed by any particular church I attended, I would be gone, after telling whatever powers that be the reason why.
If my church ever claimed infallability, I'd be gone. If it ever claimed to be my own channel for salvation, I'd be gone.
Other than that, each congregation has its own personality, it's own flaws. As long as it's clear that I don't have to accept everything taught, I feel free to discard anything I don't particularly believe.
