Thank you Talesin for your reasoned response. I am in the situation you describe. After 35 years and 3 generations, I stopped drinking the Kool ade and disassociated myself. Prior to that, I had many conversations with my devout wife. She couldn't answer my questions or doubts (neither could any of my friends who were elders). She still believes that no matter what the conduct or mistakes of the GB - it's still jah's org. At the time our son was 3 years old. At one point we were looking at divorce, but through much anguish and heartache - we decided on a compromise: We both love each other very much We both love our son (and now a daughter due in August!) We both have equal rights as parents and both truly believe we are doing what is in the child's best interests. She takes him to about half the meetings per month, I get him the other half. I celebrate most of the holidays with him and she is tolerant of that. We both express to him what we believe without putting down the other person. So far - he has done well with this arrangement. He knows mom and dad believe differently and that he will be allowed to choose when appropriate. Who knows if our arrangement will work out in the long run, but I still think it's better than divorce.

Why would someone who has disassociated allow their child to be taken to KH
by Agnes ini just read the listeners post about baptisms at the district conventions and didn't want to disrupt the thread.
i'm curious, why would someone allow their child to attend the kh or district convention and possibly be pressured into getting baptized?

I'm new to the forum and desperate for support
by muse ini will be very brief on my introduction as i need to get straight to the point.
i was raised in the 'truth' from birth.
i got baptized at 16 (elder dad hassled me) and managed to do the 'slow fade' at 18 (it helped that i moved 50 miles away from home).

Hello Muse and welcome. Of course you always have a place to be heard here. I was thinking about your situation. How "old school" is your father? Today the JW blood policy has morphed so much since the simple edict - No Blood, period. Here is a Commentary Press link from Ray Franz' book In Search Of Christian Freedom: http://www.commentarypress.com/eng-search-ch9-01.html He points out how so much of circulating blood by volume is now acceptable as a "conscience matter". Maybe you can discuss this with the doctor and see if taking any of these acceptable components will up the survival rate. Or maybe show the information to your Dad. I know its a long shot, but that information exposes that policy for the ridiculous farce that it is. When uneducated JW leaders try to play doctor, they wind up giving inch by inch to save face as technology advances. My wife is still devout and would never accept a transfusion - but has twice accepted the shot because she is RH negative. I'll never understand how as a JW you can't give blood and can't approve of stored blood (even your own), but will accept a protien from someone else's stored blood! It's madness. Good Luck and stay connected to the board for support and advice!

Hello LouBelle, My name is Matt and I'm a firefighter/paramedic. I do enjoy my job: It's easily explainable, and I lay my head on my pillow at night knowing I made a difference!

first post, need to purge my feelings!
by Krista inthis is my first post and here's my story.. my father became a witness long ago and my mom remained a lutheran.
our attendance was sporadic due to mom's opposition.
they knew our mom was lutheran and that she kept us from attending many meetings.

Nice to have you on board Krista Remember - right now your family can associate with you because you're just "worldly", but if you get more deeply involved and don't toe their line - then you become a bad associate. You already see that Jw"s are not gods exclusive organization, so why get yourself bogged down with the bullshit?!

belly button ring...
by kittyeatzjdubs inok.....so i went and got my belly button pierced about 3 months ago.
the stupid girl pierced it with a barbel, instead of a ring...i didn't know it had to be pierced w/ a ring until i got my tatoo a month ago and i was talking to the guy about how my piercing wasn't healing...he said, ''did she pierce it with that barbel?
''.....so it's taking forever to heal and it looks kind of nasty sometimes.

You should ask him why he even has an opinion. He should believe both parties are part of "this old system" and wait on his God. Sounds like he has some republican leanings to me.
