Men are happier because in some sense we ARE simpler. I think testosterone serves a two-fold purpose in driving us to direct, single-minded action without necessarily spending all day worrying about what someone might think about our actions. Women tend to be more worried about offending people, because they are more socially aware than men are in general. I wouldn't say men are "oblivious", because certainly some of us (like myself) tend to think about our actions more. But because of what i think are a combination of genetics and testosterone, men's minds focus on things to the point where things like "consequences" aren't always considered or worried about. Which is why when the superbowl is on we forget all about mowing the lawn or our girlfriend's birthday. Because we want to watch the superbowl dammit. Is this bad? In a sense. Then again, who's going to fix your car when it breaks down?

This Is So Weird----We Don't Miss Even A Little Bit----Our Being Witnesses!
by minimus inmy wife and i were talking today about how we just don't miss the meetings, the service, the association..... we miss nothing.
she's been a jw for over 25 years and i've been for more than 45 years----and once we simply stopped going, there was no sadness, no questioning our decision.
it's almost like we are carrying on as if we were never witnesses.

What to do about a bully?
by Sirona inthere is a bully in my life currently who wants to bully me and others who i know.
knowing that people say you should stand up to a bully, i did just that, and told him"where to go".
he backed off me, but has moved on to others i know who perhaps don't want to have the hassle of a confrontation with him, or don't feel able to confront him.

The biggest piece of advice is don't put up with that "i'm sorry" shit. If they're sorry they wouldn't do it. So when he says it, say "No your not" and don't accept it. To them, saying "Sorry" allows them another opportunity to screw with you. Don't give it to them.
I had a roommate like that once. It's a cycle that never ends.

Indians are the nicest people...
by DanTheMan ini recently was pulled from my regular job in customer service to help work on our company's "global transformation project" which involves getting all of our company's disparate software systems onto one system.. most of the programmers that i am working with now are from india.
i tell ya, they are the friendliest, most polite people i've ever come across, they are such a pleasure to work with.
i wonder if it's hinduism, or their culture, or maybe i'm just meeting the "cream" of a nation with something like a billion people, but i think the western world could learn a lot from these humble folks.

Here's the thing:
India has the most advanced form of scientific method for finding God. Their culture is built around this idea completely. The Hindu scriptures are the oldest religious text in the world, going back almost 6000 years. They contain very detailed examples of how to find God. Their form of religion is not merely religion, but rather a science. It isn't "pray, go out in service, sell some watchtowers", but literally detailed practices (like Yoga) and others that are a direct means of accessing the supernatural. When you assimilate the higher ideals of religious aspiration into your everyday life, it has an effect on the population. In order to clean their Karma and fulfill their Darhma, most Indians lead good lives. It's the simple by product of being closer to God as a nation as a whole. In the West, we look at the Indians as if they are lower down on the food chain as a poor, third world power. Yet spiritually, they are much more an advanced society than we are.

Hatha Yoga, probably the most watered-down version of yoga, has been exported to the west and sold as merely an exercise to strengthen and tone, stretch and relax your body. In all actuallity, Hatha Yoga was invented to prepare a person for higher forms of meditation and yoga, to develop a persons body (inside and out) for more advanced meditation that would lead to higher states of conciousness and eventually enlightenment.
In the West, we see everything in such simple terms. It's for stretching. It's for relaxing. These are just mere by-products of something much deeper. Yoga is a science to finding God. So in a sense, the Watchtower is right in not allowing people to do Yoga. They would find God eventually, and God would not be the Watchtower Society of New York. It would be the eternal "I", or eternal conciousness Indian sages/mystics have preached about for millenia, going all the way back to the time of the Vedas.

From the responses regarding people who went to the Tacoma Dome and surrounding areas, there are a TON of people from Washington State on this board, from the looks of it more so than any other state.
I wonder why that is? Is there something about WA that makes us unique?

Happy birthday.
Go to Hooters for your birthday. It's cool, trust me!!!
I went there with two girls once on my birthday. It made me seem less desperate and i got more attention because of it. It was great. Although the buffalo wings were too spicy. But hey, who goes to Hooters to eat anyway?

Who all went to the Tacoma Dome? That's where i saw these apostates.
It's funny, but there are about 5 of us on this board that went there. I'm curious to see who they all are.
At the risk of sounding like a active Dub, what were your congregations?

Kid Rock
by Sentinel inthis is just my opinion, but i watched his performance last night, and cringed while he sang off key this was the first time i'd heard him perform, and about all he could do in key was scream.
guess that just isn't my thing.
i'll take the original recording artist any time.

THE PROBLEM WITH KID ROCK IS:
Basicaly, we're exporting white trash all over the world by selling his records. No wonder the French hate us.
He is one ugly mother.
Again, we are promoting white trash as if it's something to be proud of when kid rock is allowed to make records. I'm "strait out the trailer" too, and let me tell you, let's not promote is if it's some kind of cultural ideal.
I don't even want to talk about his singing.
