in jw world you always are told to "set [spiritual] goals". what's your goal? what's next?
while goals surely are helpful to accomplish something, i lean more to "the path is the destination".
what about a compromise: set your goals, but enjoy the path... and don't forget to live before you die.

Why did you then and dubs now have faith in the divine appointment?
by Check_Your_Premises ini asked a dub this question, and have heard similar things in the past.
if i asked a dub why they believe in the divine appointment of the watchtower as jehovah's one and only organization i think they would answer in the following way.. 1. because of the success of the org, and all the info they put out, and the preaching work.
it has to be divinely directed, there is no other explanation.. 2. because of how well what the org teaches matches up with the bible.. 3. there has to be one true religion!

Do you believe the earth is warming up in your area?
by JH inwe hear so much about global warming, that we wonder if it's a myth or real.
is it just in fractions of a degree or much more.. since posters here are from all corners of the world, i'd like to hear from you, and let us know if you see a difference in the weather patterns in your area, since the last few years.. here, i notice that more people have air conditioners in their homes than before, and most cars have them today.
does this mean that its hotter, or that the population is getting older and people are less resistant to heat?.

here it just keeps getting colder... wherever the global warming is, it is not here.

Hey I talked to a Dub at the door today!
by FreeWilly infinally, the dubs pried themselves away from the coffee shop this morning and 'worked' my neighborhood.
i saw them coming so i had to decide what topic to discuss.
well after the intro, i decided to explain, that yes i have read the bible, and i feel the god portrayed in it is very brutal and cruel to his creation.

JW literature always seems tu suggest that every nation was aware of jehovah and his commandments. as if the people of jericho or other canaanites would have had a choice. even the gibeonites where treated like sh't after everyone found out where they were from.
another sick thing is that god supposedly used babylon to "discipline" his people, and then punished babylon for the very act of "disciplining" his people. wtf?
one thing they'd probably will come up with is that the canaanites were sacrificing children to baal, and that "some historians say that they wonder why god didn't destroy them earlier" (yeah right, "historians".. lol). the israelites on the other hand(apart from that they were worshiping baal too) did kill the canaanites INCLUDING their children and even their animals... as you said, it was a war for territory though. there were other nations around who had the same or similar culture to the canaanites, however israel never touched them.
as you correctly said, it was not a crusade for judaism, it was a war for real estate. -

What does the book "What does the Bible really teach?" really teach?
i'm a assembly 2005 survivor. i survived it by excessive sleeping. my sleep reached it's climax when gerrit lösch started talking. how is it possible that someone talks THAT boring? and how is it possible that someone talking about godly obedience to the org ALWAYS exceeds the org-made program for at least half an hour? challenging questions.
so we got a new tract. don't remember what it is about, but didn't sound like something new. so we got a new book. about what the bible really says. young people ask: why do we need to read a book to learn what the bible really teaches instead of reading the bible to find out what it really teaches? and why do we need another book that's got the same contents as so many books before? challenging questions.
the drama this time actually was of a higher quality than ever before. it was not as embarrassing as they usually are. it actually was quite moving and i think some young people who were to decide on their future made a decision on that drama (at least for the next few days, until reality catches them again). at the end of the assembly they were reading a few anonymous letters from young brothers who now decided to go pioneering instead of studying on the university. are those "experiences" for real or are they made up? where did the "translators" of the new world "translation" learn their "greek" and "hebrew" if not in university? and where would the org get their lawyers from if not some would be priviledged to go to university? challenging questions. -

you'd probably have a hard time understanding the recorded conversation, as it would be german ;-) i liked the features mentioned on amazon: "record your next disagreement - then play it back and prove you were right!"
i just called the elder and told him i'm busy. he was kinda surprised (guess he thought, what would be more important than meeting with the elders) and told me we'd have to talk some other time then. but that other time i'll be prepared. -

who escapes more often, those born into it or adult converts?
by kid-A inwhat strikes me on this board is the number of adult converts that have left the borg, either fading out or getting df'd.
from my experience (i was born into it, 2nd generation, left before getting baptized) most of the faders or escapees were also like.
me, born into it, never really accepted it and just bowed out at the first opportunity.

born into it. though not publicly escaped yet.
when you grow up in the "truth", you probably are more likely to see all the hypocrisy going on behind the scenes. there are also a lot of never answered questions that pile up. the only chance to go on is dismissing those questions, but that does not work for all too long.
i could bite my bum to be so dumb to get baptized - i actually got baptized becaues of a girl i was going out with back then. we were baptized together and were dating for a year or so. then she was going "spiritually mature" and dropped me (because of my bad music). she started pioneering and shortly after that she was DFed for immorality. stupid girl. could have stayed with me in the first place. -

@blondie: yeah, i typed it, and it's now about 6 months old. didn't sign it either, i told him to not show it to anyone, and in this case i trust him. however, i was careful enough to keep everything as vague as possible.
my wife does not directly insist in me going to the meetings, but if i don't go, there's trouble... lol. i still try to miss as many meetings as possible. at least i don't go to the book study anymore. she neither :-)
@cab: this will be a shepherding call, however, i've searched for "help" a few years ago, and was not happy with their answers, result was i became inactive step by step. they are also scared about my "influence" on others, because some of my friends started questioning things also.
can't talk about it with my wife, as she get's angry as soon as i question something about the org. it's easier to question the bible than the org... this may change some time, but i wouldn't hold my breath. -

not answering the door aint an option, because my better half is still very much into the JW thing. i more or less regularly still "have to" attend the meetings too.
bring along another "christian" would be funny, but i'm an atheist and would start an argument with the other christian too... and it would actually cause a problem that i don't have now.
as things are now, i'm pretty safe i think.
the document i mentioned had to be kept secret by the elder, i made him promise that. if anything slipped through, i'd deny that i wrote it. i also phrased everything in a questioning way. so they got nothing. -

Do you think Grissom gives himself a low five?
by DannyBloem injust a theory.
he is using the internet for looking at some of those worldly pictures of ladies not obeying the dress standard of a sunday meeting in the kingdom hall.
after choking his bald guy 'til he pukes he comes to this board to preach and to lessen his feel of guilt.. well just a thought..
