i did a lot when i was still active. whenever someone was not there, i did his job. i did the literature, the sound, the mikes, the counting, the old-sister-driving, the snow-cleaning, and occasionally our local elders even invented new jobs like guarding the parking lot or helping the old people out of their coats.
those *privileges* were removed from me because i showed a rebellious attitude (i was being sincere and honest to the elders and told them how i really felt about some stuff - bad for a JW carreer).
now that many others my age have slowed down too, are always late and thus not available for those great priviledges, the children, the (few) "morning dew"-youth and the idiots have to do the work. bad thing is those children really view this as a priviledge.

Can You See ThatThere's No One Left To Do Anything Around The Kingdom Hall?
by minimus indo you realize that now elders are forced to "set the example" and do menial tasks like mow the lawn, clean the bathrooms and "handle the mikes".
there's no one left!

Is the Bible really inerrant?
by greendawn indo you think the bible is inerrant ie has absolutely no erroneous information or does it contain some errors?
if it does is its credibility destroyed?
i personally think that a great deal in the bible is false but still the basic ideas are correct.

luke left out some commas and paul got all confused writing his long sentences so i'm sure there are several syntax errors in there.

by tetrapod.sapien inif any of you feel like praying and having your prayers heard and answered, feel free to send a prayer to me at [email protected].
i hear all prayers, and answer all prayers.
i will try to fulfill those within my powers, but i will be honest with you homo sapiens and say that i will not be able to fulfill all of them.

almighty sovreign, Tetragod of hosts, may i dare to ask some deep questions? i humbly bow before you, creator of threads. what books are inspired by thy holy breath, who was the first man to walk on earth, why do people die, where are we going to, how can i be saved? and one last question, please forgive... why did you bless me with such a huge noodly appendix down there?

making 1914 crumble
by googlemagoogle inyet another 1914 thread?
there are plenty of threads already about chronology, babylonian kings, egyptian kings, median and persian kings, there is also lots of information available about old bible-students and jw literature.
even a simplified chronology including "fallen baby" and "evil duck" is available somewhere on this site.

btw, i'd like to read some real-world experiences using this approach ;-)
i've tried it on my family a while ago and it resulted in a huge debate. everyone reacted differently from ignoring to thinking to agreeing to questioning... eventually everyone forgot about it again though. -

New Releases.. losing pzazz??
by Inquisitor inhas anyone else noticed that in recent years the new releases have less 'chunky' content?
a book of maps, a children's book about jesus (?
), and this year's book which summarises main witness teachings (from what i gathered anyway, i haven't seen it yet).. the language is simpler, the message trimmed up nicely.. i wonder why.

Is the 144,000 persons mentioned in Rev 7:4-8 literal or symbolic
by trem ini know that this may have been treated before but i still need your valuable suggestions.. rev 7:4 says "and i heard the number of those who were sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the sons of israel", veses 5 to 8 provides additional details that 12,000 were selected from the 12 tribes of israel.
the book of numbers 1: 20-42 lists the following as the 12 tribes of natural israel: reu ben, sim eon, gad, judah, is sachar, zeb ulun, e phraim, manas seh, benjamin, dan, ash er and naph tali.
however, rev 7:5-8 did not list the tribes of ephraim and dan but instead listed 10 approved tribes with 2 non approved tribes of levi and joseph.

Some of the obvious ones are 3, 7, and 12. How many time have you seen these numbers in the bible?
or in fairy tales by brothers grimm... 7 dwarfs, striking 7 flies at once, 3 little pigs, 3 bears, 7 mile boots, 12 apostles.. wait. that was not brothers grimm... -

Dont be so hard on satan
by gringojj ini think people forget that satan was a creation of god, just like all of us and everything else.
obviously god had a purpose in creating satan.
god has love for everyone and everything, including satan.

I was reading a post today about the kingdom songs we sang as JW's.
by booker-t ini was thinking about the kingdom songs we sang as jw's and was wondering about you posters out there that are ex-jw's or still jw's what was you all time favorite "kingdom song" or what was you all time horrible song that we sang from both songbooks (1966 songbook or the later songbook made in 1984 sing praises to jehovah.
my favorite song was song #119 in the 1966 songbook "keep your eyes on the prize".
i like this song because it made me feel that armaggeddon was coming fast and the "new system" would be here to give me the prize.

there was no song i hated more than "children, precious gifts from god". when i was a child i used to sing along with it, but always had to stop at the line "he says 'use the rod'..."
the rod was used a lot on me. when i was older i brought up the topic when talking with other witnesses, but they usually said, the beating aint got nothing to do with being a jehovah's witness, there are non witnesses beating their children too and witnesses not beating their children.
but still they sing from the top of their lungs "he says 'use the rod'".
