Hi DIM,
Funny. If last year you were to say to an elder "well, I still have my card from last year in like-new condition, I don't think I'll use a new card this year", they would have strongly counseled you for your "independent" thinking. If you are a brother, you would probably not be given any "priveledges" either because of this rebellious spirit. Now, yet again, the WTS can arbitrarily change a rule without any explanation to the R & F. Everyone sits there nodding their heads to the wonderful new light or "simplification". Boy, were we BRAINDEAD or what!!!

no blood cards this year!
by DIM inlast night at meeting they told us to just use our blood cards from last year.
in the past they've always told us how important it was to get it signed every year so that people could see our current views as jw's.....doesn't this new arangement negate everything they've ever said in regards to this?
absolutely nuts!.

Discovery leads to change.
by AIRVIEW1 ini remember the all the gravel roads in mississippi where i grew up then someone dicovered asphalt and things changed.i remember my mississippi back woods country jw grandmother saying, "they will never.
make it to the moon, if jehovah would have wanted man on the moon he would have put him there....they will never make it!".
i also remember my grandmother speaking so negativley about the "high and mighty" government" but 1975 was coming!

My mother claims to be "anointed". She has for the last 20 years or so. What I never understood is this:
pre-1935 this was the only classification of JW, whether you were 8 or 80 years old. When someone new made the claim of being one of the anointed post-1935 they were viewed as replacements for one who had died unfaithful. Numerous WT articles make the statement that any replacement anointed would most likely come from among those who have served faithfully for MANY YEARS. Why would that be the case, if as I said, you could have been 8 years old and considered "anointed" pre-1935 ??? Yet another WT riddle. -

JWs & Personal Finance
by Valis inperhaps this is not a widespread phenomenon, but have any of you considered the ramifications in regards to many jw families never saving for retirement or college funds, becues they thought the end was near, or college was a non-issue for so many of us?
just recently my parents never saved any money, becuase the promise of the end coming soon, but as old age creeps closer, i think some of the policy is revealing itself to be really bad advice.
i also wonder how long jws have to keep working after retirement age than the rest of the 'worldlies".

Valis is right. Here's a quote from a recent CO's talk:
"Everything that we do, we should do it with Armageddon in mind.
We should factor that in with every decision we make, whether it's buying something or doing something."ok,, so what that SHOULD mean is: no pensions or IRA's, no college fund for your kids, no college (if you're now in High School), no job promotions, the list goes on.
Meantime, they contradict these statements made from the platform with their written articles on topics like life insuarnce, pensions, and education. It's like they have to "officially" say through their printed pages that witnesses need to figure on being around for a while in this old system.
They say this is the "course of wisdom", that it does not show a lack of faith. The reality though, when you actually start to plan wisely for you and your family's future, is that you will be counseled for it. They will start to highlight all the spiritual dangers and treat you as though you are "weak".Case in point: A personal friend of mine received a full scholarship from a local college to study to become a veternarian. She is now a freshman there. Her congregation was just the host congregation so had the CO & DO visit together. The DO heard that this girl was in College full time. He came up to her after the meeting, and said very smugly.."oh, you're in College huh, let's just hope you find the time to pioneer". and then he just walked off.
I rest my case. -

What purpose do the 'Annointed' serve?
by LDH inhave you ever wondered what the annointed do the other 364 days, when they're not partaking of the manischewitz?
(or whatever the hell that cheap ass wine is called).. aren't they supposed to be rulers in heaven with jesus?.
why aren't they getting any practice on earth?.

Do JC facts turn the elders on?
by hungry4life ini hope this doesn't sound to insensitive but even when iwas an active dub i wondered how the elders could listen to peoples sexual scenarios without getting at least a bit of a thrill.
i'm a bit of a voyuer at heart so maybe i am making the wrong assumption but it seems to me to be human nature.
i have never been called before a judicial committee but i have talked to others who have and they are often pressed for lots of detail.
-
badwillie
I have heard of this type of probing (pardon the pun) before.
I believe most of the elders (like the GB) are sexually frustrated and repressed. One sister recently told my wife that an elder on the JC asked her if she "enjoyed it", referring to the act she confessed to. -

Letter to all Branches------A Fake?
by miner inmany of you are no doubt familiar with the nov.1, 2001 "letter to all branches" putting forth the the library card defense.
(the letter can be seen at: ) i gave a copy of the letter to a jehovah's witness friend of mine who took it to one of his elders.
the elder said the letter is a fake because: (1) it is not written on official wt letterhead and (2) watchtower does not send such correspondence via the (eeeevil) internet.
-
badwillie
The wording on this letter is essentially the same as one I have in my possesion (addressed to me) which is on the "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses" letterhead.

Sorry but U can't be baptized!
by plmkrzy inif anyone is interested, i have a question about baptism.. i know that in the bible jesus told his disciples to go and gather up all people .
who were willing to listen and make disciples of them baptizing them etc..etc..etc... so basically there would be a kinda pyramid effect taking place from that moment.
in time and on until the end of this system of things.

You're absolutely right. Did you know Fred Franz was never baptized as a JW? Somewhere in the WT literature there is a quote from him saying that he viewed his first baptism a a Presbyterian as perfectly valid.

Thanks Randy.
If we can't demolish the building with a wrecking ball, we can dismantle it brick by brick. Since leaving the org, I'm findng more and more people I knew in the past who have left for the same reasons.

When Reform Becomes Impossible
by metatron inin some organizations, reform can become impossible.. explosive and centrifugal forces can build up, year after year,.
without relief.
after that, even a small pin prick can cause.

Metatron-
I'm glad someone else is as optimistic as me about an eventual WTS bust-up. I also see the parallels to the old Soviet empire.
My earlier thread asks a similar question:http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=19380&site=3
