Armageddon - Sept 2005: conclusive proof for the arithmetically challenged!
by slimboyfat inthey said it would come in 1975. they were wrong!
just like moses at the waters of meribah they presumed to speak for god when they had no business.
god made israel wait 40 years until moses died, and he is doing the same today!

They hang themselves...eventually
by ConcernedMom inmy 16 year old daughter has been dating her jw boyfriend for over 10 months now.
his family is what the dubs would probably call "spiritually weak" but i have shown her a lot of posts from this site to let her know what is more typical behaviour for the average dub.
it's not that she didn't believe what she read, but it is so much more effective to see it first hand.

1: One of BF's friends told him that he couldn't associate with their family anymore because they weren't strong enough in the truth...boyfriend was quite hurt.
2: During a super bowl party at the BF's house, they had to change the channel every time the commercial for The Cursed came on. When they said that it looked good, the room went silent and everyone turned to stare...
3: This past weekend, she attended a wedding reception for a couple that didn't get married in the KH (groom wasn't baptised/bride was). Almost all of the groom's friends boycotted the reception (following the elders) and got together to do something else. They didn't think that the bride's father was going to show up but in the end he did.
Even though my daughter had heard about stuff like this, I think it still shocked her to see it in action...especially among young people. She sees the hurt caused by their "friends" actions.
Why should a father showing up for his daughter's wedding be such a praise-worthy event??
It doesn't matter how good a line they talk...eventually their actions reveal "The Truth". -

If Watchtower rules were applied to worldly people..
by JH in.
if watchtower rules were applied to worldly people, you could shun worldly people for silly reasons such as...buying a 2 door car .
give other examples: .

We've had a few weird things happen in this house, most involving my daughter. The most recent was yesterday morning. Every time she walked under the upstairs smoke alarm, it beeped once at her. It's only a couple of months old and the batteries are still fresh. It didn't do it when anyone else walked by either. It did it three or four times and then it stopped...hasn't done it since.
Maybe we have a poltergeist that thinks she's hot!! -

Originally, I ended up here in search of information to help me understand my daughter's JW boyfriend and his family. It made me realize that they are not typical in a lot of ways (good ways) but also to be aware of the potential problems that could come should they become more dedicated. It has also been a really big help to hear from other parents who have been in the same situation.
As a bonus, it has made me think a lot about my own beliefs...

Tough day -- my mom died today
by cruzanheart inpoor thing, she's had alzheimer's for about 10 years and the last year she's been on hospice care because she's been so close to death.
the past few months she's been slowly filling up with water -- they gave her lasix (not sure of the spelling) to relieve the edema and it worked, sort of.
last weekend she actually looked a little better.

Once, when my son was 3 or 4, we were sitting in church before mass started and the old lady next to us sneezed--a big (about 3 inches across) splat of snot on the shoulder of the woman in front of her. Dilemma...should the sneezer have said something?...casually tried to wipe it off?...Then someone else came in and the "sneezee" slid over so she was directly in front of us. Had to sit there for an hour looking at that and praying my son didn't say anything. I always worried that when she got home and found it, she would think it was one of us. I don't think Emily Post's rules of etiquette covered this one...

It is obvious that jehovahs witnesses are not proud of their religion.
by Holey_Cheeses*King_of_the juice. inone could rightly expect, considering the urgency of the times, and the need 'to preach the good news of the kingdomtm' before the end arrives, that jws would be doing all they could to encourage 'like-heartedtm' ones along to their place of worship/study/meeting (or whatever they wish to call their kingdom hallstm).
instead, from my observations, they are doing their best to make the halls as uninviting as possible.. the case in point.
several days ago i drove past the front entrance to the fairly new kingdom hall in ballina where i spent my formative years in 'the truthtm'.

I've never been inside a KH but the three around here all look pretty good from the outside...well kept and they all have big "Kingdom Hall" signs. 2 are quite new; the other has been around for as long as I can remember.
