have i heard the universal life church mentioned here?

) they are opening a church in our neighbourhood so please tell me they aren't those guys with the long gray beards and robes that someone posted the picture of....

maybe a stupid question but what happens to the leftover emblems after the memorial?

are they given any significance outside of the memorial (like the bread and wine that has been blessed in a catholic mass) and saved for next year?

or taken home and consumed by someone?

my 16 year old daughter has been dating her jw boyfriend for over 10 months now.

his family is what the dubs would probably call "spiritually weak" but i have shown her a lot of posts from this site to let her know what is more typical behaviour for the average dub.

it's not that she didn't believe what she read, but it is so much more effective to see it first hand.

my daughter (15) has been invited to go to a jw wedding reception with her boyfriend's family and she would like to know what to expect.

the ceremony is family only so she will just be going to the dinner/dance.

not sure whether she might be "lovebombed" or shunned (doesn't that sound like a fun evening??

i've posted here before about my teenaged daughter's boyfriend (yes brenda, he's still here...) and his "liberal" jw family.

i understand those who fade or choose to stay in because of family ties...and there have been a few posts by those who still believe but choose a more worldly lifestyle--i think that is where this family is at.

i was giving the boyfriend a ride home the other night and he was talking to my daughter about how his jw friend's parents had decided that they couldn't associate with his family because they didn't do enough for "the truth".

whenever i hear anyone referring to "false" gods or "the one true" god, it reminds me of the old game show to tell the truth.

#1: i am the one true god.

#2: i am the one true god.

Family Day??

mulan mentioned this on another thread and coincidentally, my daughter and i were discussing it today.

her jw boyfriend and his family have been talking about it...his little sister is making her list of gifts she wants, parents checking out the holiday flyers for good deals on video games etc.

i gather they get up early, have lots of presents and special meals and get together with extended family.

when i was a teenager, one of my friends started dating a jw.

he "wasn't into his religion, just his parents were.

" she ended up pregnant, quit school to get married and after that, we pretty much only saw her standing on street corners or in mcd's on sunday mornings after meetings, with her (3 i think) little boys all dressed up in their shirts and ties.

what would the "jw" opinion of reiki be?

my daughter is currently taking a level one course.

her jw boyfriend just phoned and when i said she was at reiki, there was a pause and then he asked "what's that?

have any of you ever read the book "the chrysalids"?

after a nuclear holocaust, the society has become intolerant of any "deviation from the norm" in crops/animals/people and so the burn/kill/exile them respectively to keep everything pure.

a group of kids has developed the ability to communicate telepathically but must keep it a secret or they will be considered deviants.
