  LET'S MAKE A LITTLE WAGER

  perhaps you recall the instance in the bible where samson made a wager with the philistines that they couldnt guess his riddle.

  as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.

  since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.

  I presume the witnesses still look to the political and financial world for signs of the end. But do they not realise that if it does ever come "it will come as a thief in the night", "nobody knows the day or the hour", and looking at the world news in this way could be compared to looking for omens?
  Also, I have nothing against Americans, but how many times some of you make yourselves look soooooo stupid when you stick your nose in the air and proudly pronounce the US to be at the centre of the world. I see it on boards like this (yes even ones based in the UK) practically every day, and it's just starting to make me think Americans must be short sighted and a bit stupid.

  I think that was a very good point about there being 8000 remnant not being used while helpers from the great crowd are. It is very easy to forget that not long ago, there was no great crowd, and it was only invented to explain the way the numbers were growing over 144,000. The elite governing body have turned their back then on their fellow anointed, and possibly view some as "quacks"? , and who is judge of that? What if I get re-instated and choose to have the calling? Will I be viewed as a quack or will I be on the governing body by the time all the others have died?

  Need new drink!!!

  ok this has nothing to do with being a jw or anything of that nature but it is important to me and i need some help:.

  here goes i have been drinking rum and coke (bacardi) since i can remember and finally realized that maybe it is contributing to my severly harsh hangovers.

  so i went on a quest in search of a new drink.

  Death of a Pioneer

  by pioneer i mean a true pioneer not someone who flogs books for 60 odd hours a month for a publishing company.

  i'm referring to a true pioneer, dr. christaan barnard, who died today.

  he performed the worlds first successful human heart transplant in 1967. he died today aged 78.. it is worth mentioning again because dr. barnard gets scant coverage by the wt (i dont have any awakes from the 60s and 70s so if anyone can add any more id be grateful.

  As an ex-barman, aswell as ex-jw, I am suitably qualified to answer. If you want me to, I will recommend some cocktails, however, you probably need to switch to wine or beer, in other words "CHANGE YOUR POISON". How about port and lemon (I think lemonade in the US is soda).
  Tall glass, ice, very nice measure of port, topped with lemonade.

  Does Genesis Teach a Local Flood?

  i went to the homepage for ray franz' commentary press, and i found an article there promoting the idea that genesis teaches a local flood.

  the author believes the genesis flood actually happened, as a local event, and that an ark actually were floating on top of local flood waters in the mesopotamia area some thousand years ago.

  i recognized many arguments from a talk carl olof jonsson gave at a "christian freedom" seminar in sweden in, i think, 1996, so i guess that this article, too, is written by coj.

  MY QUESTION IS:
  why does Gen chp2 describe in detail how there was no rain, and then go on to descibe rivers?
  Surely rain and rivers are parts of the same water cycle?

  Evolution vs Creation and spontaneous generation

  please read it all, i know it's a bit long, but you need to read it all to see where i am coming from.

  i beleive in creation in the sense that the big bang and spontaneous generation don't make logical sense to me.

  i am sure funkyderek and jan will have some fun with me on this one.

  To Jan,
  Just to say this board would not be the same without you, and I welcome your messages. You obviously have a great mind and wish everyone to know about it. However, I wanted to comment on your general tone which is beginning to make me smile, as whenever I see your picture, I think, OK - now for God's thoughts on the subject. You must remember that not many people here (or anywhere) are experts on EVERYTHING, but many of us wish to give our humble opinion, in light of our shared experiences. This board helps people over come difficult experiences by the process of communication. Surely getting EVERY fact strictly correct is not the most important thing. One great scientist even commented that knowledge is like one small pebble on a beach.
