I don't know what is true, but I know the jw's are false because they claim to be the "truth." If you disagree with just one of their beliefs, then the whole thing gets thrown out. For me, I refuse to believe that smoking cigarettes has any impact on your eternal salvation.

by jwfacts ini am inactive and it took years of doubt to convince myself the jw's arent true.
i started doubting because i hated the idea that jehovah would kill 6 billion non-jw's.
the thing now that is the most important proof for me is that until 1954 jw's worshipped jesus and it is still in the watchtower charter, even though you now get disfellowshipped for worshipping jesus.

A Christian question, but applies to all thinking Christian too!
by free2beme inno longer being a christian, it has become a mind opening experience to look back and see certian things i once ignored or just brushed off.
yet now i can not help but see these things and wonder why other christians do not.. if you have ever studied greek, roman or any other cultures religions in history.
then you have no doubt read their legends, about gods and how things came to be, and no doubt you have enjoyed these and at the same time you must have wondered how people actually bought this enough to make it a religion.

It's very difficult to be married to a jw if you're not. Problems I've had with my wife: she only wants to hang out with other jws; she devotes a tremendous amount of time to the organization and doesn't take care of household chores; she is very morally uptight about movies, sex, language, etc.; she is training the children to be jws, and everybody questions me because "I don't love Jehovah". Basically, it sucks.

I started posting because my wife's a jw. She also checks the history after I get off the computer,(I always delete the porn), so I figured she'd start reading some of the threads. In the mean time, I've been really impressed by the posters - smart and funny.

What should I do?
by misguided inwhen my youngest son came home from his weekend with his father, i realized it would soon be july, and my ex has a 10-day access period specified for july, and i thought i'd better write it on the calendar.
while doing this, my son tells me he's going to go somewhere with his dad, but he's not allowed to tell me.

In my jurisdiction, if you don't have joint custody, the primary custodial parent chooses the child's religion. Therefore, the court could order that your child not attend any jw events. I'm sure there are kingdom halls within the 100 mile radius, so fighting that battle seems futile.

As a sexual abuse survivor myself.....................

who of us can be sure if he did abuse kids or not?
how can anyone say he is guilty or innocent (except a victim if there is one)?

I don't think he abused the children. The parents of the children allowed the children to share his bed with them, and in at least some of the cases, it was the children who asked to sleep with him, not Jackson who manipulated the events to get them into any particular situation.
Jeffro, just because the parents allowed it doesn't make it right. There are some sick parents who allow their kids to be abused, or turn a blind eye. Also, the kids may have asked to sleep with Wacko, but I doubt if they asked to be molested. He's sleeping with young boys. There are alarms on the door. What else do you need.

I contend that morals for the sake of respect for your fellow man are much more noble than morals for the sake of eternal life in paradise or heaven. I find myself to have a much clearer sense of morals since I left organized religion.

Realistically, no. In fact, alienation of affection as a cause of action doesn't exist anymore in the realm of adultery due to it being so commonplace. How about suing for fraud to get donations back?

Had a jw non-father's day today

My jw step-son (age 7) asked me if today was father's day. I said no. Then he brought me a present. JW wife stayed in the other room. Nobody said what the present was for or "happy father's day". It's just weird. I wish they wouldn't do anything if they think its that bad. Is this normal for jws to tip-toe around the holidays to appease the non-jws?

List of things banned to JWs
by AllAlongTheWatchtower inmy wife is involved with jws, and i want to find out what they believe, things they do or will not do, that i can present to her in the hope that it will convince her that the jw lifestyle is not for her.
i found out a few things already, like blood and yoga which i told her about, but she was unphased.
("i've never needed a transfusion before anyway, and besides, they told me that doctors have blood substitute now".

I also have a jw wife. The list of rules is ridiculous, but I confront my wife about them, she tries to say that the rules are really optional, she just chooses to follow them because she agrees with the reasoning. The smoking may be your ace in the hole, because for whatever stupid reason it seems to be a huge deal to the jws. Good luck.
