The modern protestant bible contains very few if any fables simply because the protestant reformation discarded many books which had been accepted in the canon for over 1000 years. (The only one I can think of right now is also reproduced in Buddhist literature - The two prostitutes arguing over a baby. You've got it - he ordered it cut in two)

The Council of Trent in the 16th century examined these other books and confirmed that they are divinely inspired. This is why you will find the Apocrypha in Msgr Knox's and other Catholic translations.

Of course thinking christians everywhere will wonder "Why would God's only true church allow such fairy stories to be included in his word?" Do you not agree, as an honesthearted one, that this means millions of catholics are worshipping God in vain?

As per the example from the Quran, just pick up any JW book or fundy tract to find out how to make the bible mean anything your sect wants it to.

So, Hib,

What exactly is your objection to having the X (khi in greek) put at the start. It is the first letter of the greek word for Christ 'X' - maybe we should spell Christ as hrist?

The custom goes way back to when vellum and parchment were very expensive. Many words were abbreviated in handwritten manuscripts, some of which we know longer know the word they represent. In the church there were many masses, all of which were written in the abbreviated form: '_mas'. (insert the relevant abbreviation at '_' ) Any literate person would know when he saw the greek letter before the word 'mass' that it stood for Xristos and put that word in. Much as the jews would say Adonai when they saw YHWH.

By the way, if you make no attempt to say YHWH when you see it in the bible and substitute another word aren't you doing the same as those you are criticising for saying Xmas? Perhaps they think that Christ is too holy a word to utter. As for hijacked pagan holidays the customs of the spring fertility festival in honor of Ishtar became Easter in the early church. How blasphemous is that?

....this is what the bible says.......then how is it that the wtbts lays up even more rules and regulations then they had in the mosaic law?

does this not defeat the purpose of christ's death?

if the law was the tutor leading to christ, now that he died for us, why all these rules?

Those crazy annointed

i knew several of the annointed over my life.. once when working door to door we were rejected and the annointed brother said loudly as we were leaving, "he will make good fertilizer for the ground after armageddon.

the annointed brother i worked with as a little kid used to take me to dairy queen on hot summer days to drink out of the water fountain at the back.. one brother who claimed to be of the annointed worked at the equal opportunity agency.. one guy about my age who i was friends with at bethel discovered he was of the annointed a few years ago, many years after he was baptized.

i think people will continue to make this discovery forever.. one annointed guy used to rub my knuckles together whenever he shook my hand and also used to grip my knee joint very hard, both hurt a lot.

If you said "it's a beautiful day", she pulled ugly faces, if you said "aren't those flowers pretty?" she closed her eyes and turned away. All the things she told householders were lovely and blessings from Jehovah to be enjoyed and appreciated she despised (ungrateful cow).

One day somebody was out on the work with her and got sick of her miserable negativity.

"Don't you love Jehovah's creation?"

"I'm not interested in flowers. I just want to die so I can be with God."

Flowers trees and going to p*** s*** f*** and eat drink and sleep wasn't good enough for her, but it's good enough for all the other gofors.

WTS Backslides Production Again - Paperback Bibles

announced at service meetings this week:.

the wts will be phasing out hard-bound bibles for the public begining later this year.. jws will still be able to order hard-backs for themselves, but hard-bound bibles will not be made available to the public after current stocks are depleted.. soft cover bibles will have a paper cover similar to other publications produced by the wts.. pocket-size bibles with fake leather covers are to be discontinued entirely and will only be available in paperback.. we are a long way from pig-skin folks.. .

Actually the "Proclaimers" book laid the first bricks on this particular Yellow brick road very cleverly.

I no longer have the book but do recall it says that in a certain year, during Knorr's regime, members of the GB resigned because "AT THAT TIME" it was believed that "only annointed" could serve.

"At that time" is a subtle hint laying the foundation that "AT THIS TIME" it is no longer a necessary requirement.
