That's a help.
I was thinking along the lines of sound - where language first comes from. Yah sounds a bit more agreeable to me, more like Yeah as we use today. But je hovah has more of a yes master tone about it, as if the one spoken to is haughty.The hebrews seem to have used it describing from mischief (that couldn't be reconciled, a chasm).
Interesting stuff.

The name Jehovah means "the existing One" according to Strong's Concordance #03068 (Hebrew)
Our newer english name jehovah has been accepted as meaning that.
Hebrew does not contain the word jehovah, as it does je and hovah.
Try putting in jehovah as a hebrew word, there isn't one.
In hebrew the actual sounds 'je' and 'hovah' are used and they have a rather different meaning.the sound hovah in Isaiah.
Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.

It's not uncommon for cults to be gettin' up to some rather illegal behaviours, but besides that, society generally gives much more latitude to bible using groups, so long as they're makin' picket fences. The jw illegalities are kept further from the sight of mainstream law.
They are quite experienced at using such general notions as this argument to confuse any situation. Much of the time there are "current" language issues involved in the deception. They use what is current, with the tides and waves so to speak, rather than any etymology.
Here's a couple of examples.
Humble from roots - knowing where you're at, down to earth
Humble from wtbts - being subservient, doing as your toldJealous from roots - guarding and protective
Jealous from wtbts - envyResponsible from roots - able to respond
Responsible from wtbts - legally documented dutyI'm in the process of making up a dictionary according to the wtbts to reveal how deceptive language meaning is used to readily take people away with the current.
Language issues sure help their strawman arguments.

Shouldn't an ex-dub wanting to separate themselves properly, also not use the name jehovah? In hebrew je is 'from' and hovah is 'mischief', or so I read - I don't speak hebrew, but it sounds about right, I never did like the sound of it - too stuffy and haughty, a good likening of their god though.
Love Him differently? Give Him a new name like He showed you. Saul to Paul etc. Call Him Yahweh, if indeed you need to give Him a name like that.
Can you really escape their influence if you can't draw the line? They hold it over you. They might as well be saying Ankar to me.

by silentlambs inwell now we have it, what appears to be the pre-emptive strike from wt.. as of this friday three families who appeared on the dateline program have been informed judicial committees have been setup with a one week notice and it is alleged that they have been causing "divisions" within the organization.
i got my letter today, barbara anderson got hers yesterday and the other family earlier this week.. if you were a pr firm would you think it to be a good idea or a bad idea to df everyone a couple of weeks before the dateline program airs?
what do you think the american public will think of such a move?.

DEFINITELY tell dateline about the lynching or whatever it is - make sure that you go and display support for your beliefs - you wouldn't want people to think you are just an overzealous JW hater, or some kind of bigot. Take Dateline with you, and explain to the org that you feel it's in the best interests of the org to clean up their act.

the idea that it was "jehovah's organization" canceled any curiosity i had about the matter.. since i've become a full-blown evil apostate, my research has led me to believe that, just like any other governmental regime, there is a serious divide in the gb between the liberals and the conservatives.. it is also my understanding that one of the strongest and most influential personalities on the gb is ted jaracz.
and that his influence is a serious impediment to the much-needed reforms in the org.
