A BIG Thanks to My Family Here !!!!!
by dottie ini have been with the board now for a few months now, mostly lurking and posting occaisionally and i love the support and even the opposition that everyone has shown here.
i know that most newbies do post their "story", and even tho i'm not technically a newbie here anymore, i would like you all that i meet in chat & on the board to know a bit more about me and my jw background.
this could be a long post but thanks for taking the time to read it !

How dare those people post before me?!?!Honey, you are a wonderful girl and I love you already. I am so proud of you being so open about the stuff that happened to you. That takes guts! Maybe I will post my story synopsis soon, too. Who knows?
((((((((((((((((Dottie))))))))))))))you are one of my favorite people to talk to here and I am so grateful we met on here. Hopefully, we will get to meet in real life, too.Give yourself a few hugs and pats on the back right now for being a survivor!
Much love to you!

Oral Sex
by Yerusalyim inthat always gets your attention, huh.
ok, i'm watching the "o'reilly factor", they just aired the case of two hs students who engaged in oral sex on a bus in silverlakes maryland while several other students cheered them on and the bus driver did nothing.
the principal of the school system didn't inform the school board until after the local newspaper broke the story and he refuses to say how the students will be punished.

Yeru,
I saw the same story on O'Reilly.....Oh, and for all of the liberals out there, the O'Reilly show ROCKS!
I agree that this piece shows what a mess things are in most public schools in the USA. Unfortunately, it stems from societal problems as well as poor legislation re: education. In addition, many counties and school districts are quite top-heavy with too many administrators and not enough teachers.

Corporal punishment and JWs
by YellowLab inhow many of you were spanked, beaten or in some other way physically corrected as a jw?.
my mother used to beat me with her hands, shoes, belts and various other items within reach when i misbehaved.
many times it was borderline abuse.. do jws teach to beat their kids into submission using physical means?

I and many other JW kids that I knew were spanked, whipped with belts, slapped, etc. by our JW parents and none of the JWs that I can remember being around really considered this abuse. I know better now.

Do you still use the name Jehovah when you......
by termite 35 in..pray with your kids ?.
my son is only 8 and went to the kingdom hall from birth to 6 1/2 years old.i don't mind praying for/with him every night as he wants me to, even though my 'faith' has changed alot these past 18 months and at the moment i'm content to enjoy my freedom and let experiences in life direct me instead of a religion.
he wants me to use the j word and i feel really uncomfortable using it .

I very rarely use the name "Jehovah" at all anymore because of the negative associations it still has for me. Tens years away and it still reminds me of the WTB&TS. When I am praying I use various names like God, Abba, Heavenly Father, Father, or Yahweh. Using those other names helps me to remember that my Higher Power is not the vengeful, punishing "Jehovah" that I was brought up believing in.
I really agree with the suggestion of doing research on this with your child. Also, explaining in simple terms to him why you would rather not use the name "Jehovah" could really help. Kids are a lot smarter and stronger than we sometimes think.

(((((((((Chris))))))))
Welcome! Hope you enjoy participating on this forum. I sure have. Guess what, Chris?! YOU get to choose what you believe and don't believe now. You can study and explore all kinds of philosophical and religious texts as well as other things and base your choices upon what YOU learn. No more being told what or how to think or how to run your life. At first, it can be a scary thing, having all of that new freedom...but, as time goes by out of the WT, it will feel GREAT!
Thanks for post!

How Did Your Adolescence Go?
by Englishman ini was chatting to an old aquaintance about some of the weid and wonderful conflicts that i had gone through when i left the jw's.
she works as a therapist of some renown locally, so i was interested in her viewpoint.
she said that, in her opinion, anyone who's adolescent development was overly restricted by, for example, their religion, would have to clear away the mental stuff that had been held back during this critical time.

How did my JW adolescence go? Two words: A NIGHTMARE. Enough said.
