  Have you ever "partaken" at the memorial

  it's that time of year again.. trying to decide if i should or shouldn't.

  I'm glad I have been out long enough I don't fret about this time of year. It's not like I had to worry about an invite- Jw's hardly ever come to my door and I have not received one invite to the memorial . I think when I left it was clear I was done. Still every memorial I felt like I should be there, but that passed after a few years. There is always the option of having your own memorial at home- you know if it really bothers you. I have only set foot in the KH for funerals etc and not many of them

  Musicians Who Died in the Last Year - or Through the Years- Who Do you Miss Most ?

  i think for me in the last year the death of david bowie got to me the most.

  not only in the way he handled his demise so classy by even making a song about it and a you tube about dying and sharing it with fans, but just his whole persona i always thought was pretty cool.

  plus i enjoyed a good many of his songs.

  Guy Clark died recently. He was mostly a writer but put out a lot of albums. Jerry Jeff Walker and many other famous singers covered his songs. One you might know, " LA Freeway".

  I miss Johnny Cash very much. I miss Janis Joplin a lot, I can't imagine what she would have done had she lived longer. Stevie Ray Vaughn, so many more.

  2016 is setting a record for celebrity deaths. I will also mention Prince, mostly b/c I hoped he would leave the Org. and in a big way. and of course Michael Jackson.

  Interesting Prince quote from current Entertainment Weekly (yes, another Prince thread)

  this weekend, i was reading my cousin's hard copy of the entertainment weekly prince tribute (may 6, 2016 issue) and came across a very interesting quote.

  ew journalist leah greenblatt, who conducted the last major magazine interview with prince in august 2015, recounted him saying: "religion is beautiful as long as you don't become a fanatic and start shutting other people out, other ideas.

  prince may have still been a jw, but it sounds like he had a very open-minded approach to it.

  The latest from TMZ is someone is claiming to be his son, fathered in 1976. The man is in prison for weapons issues but they had a pic and he does look like Prince and he has ask for DNA test and it is being done

  Chicago Med - Gets it wrong - Shows a JW Couple refuse a Cell Salvage procedure during Heart Bypass

  i like watching all the chicago shows.

  chicago med, chicago fire, and chicago pd,.

  but this week they showed a jw couple that refused a procedure that was left to the concience of a jw.

  I also thought the way they presented the alcoholic who came in with DT's was abysmal . The nurse was so judging and treated him with contempt. They ordered him 1 mg of Ativan and I was shocked. I worked in Addiction and Adult Psych for quite a while and DT's are a very serious .. They use all sorts of meds for this and 1 mg of Ativan is not likely to do very much. A nurse ended up giving him a drink and while I agree with her that he has to want to quit, still in real life she would have been fired. I never heard of anyone ever doing that.

  I thought they presented the jws as radical but with a sympathy . The older doc was right they did go against the express wishes of the patient.

  I saw the show too and found the way they spoke more of like the 700 club folks, not jws. They agreed to do the surgery with the machine, at least that is what I thought they said. In the end the husband forgave the wife . I just found the way they spoke so odd- it clearly showed that the writers only had a superficial knowledge of jws.

  urghhh... what a disgusting study!7 a conflict of loyalties may arise when a close relative is disfellowshipped.

  for example, a sister named anne received a telephone call from her disfellowshipped mother.

  the mother wanted to visit anne because she felt pained by her isolation from the family.

  The local churches ( in my area) are actually similar to jws in shunning. They may not be quite as strict but this area is a stronghold of Pentecostal and similar type religions and they practice DF'ing too.

  I would love to live somewhere that people only went to church on Sunday and people did not care what you did the rest of the week. That does not exist in my area, a very strict fundamental Christian area.

  I saw a jw in a department store the other day and at first I did not recognize them but when I did they averted their eyes and went on by. I am not DF'd. It is fairly well known that I hate everything the WTBS stands for, however.

  I have thought about attending another church but I'm pretty sure that they are waiting for me to do that so they can DF me. Maybe I could attend outside my area. It is a smallish town.
