er Hoax alert. If dinosaurs are millions of years old you won't get any fresh tissue period. If dinosaurs are
6000 years old you'd only get tissue if it was deep frozen or utterly dessicated. Either way - unlikely in the extreme.

The Apostle Paul has an interesting passage in his epistle to the Hebrews. He spoke of the Savior and declared him to be in the express image of his Father’s person. Then he asked this question: “Unto which of the angels said he [God] at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee?” (Heb. 1:5; emphasis added). And of course the answer is immediate and obvious—none of them—none of the angels, not even Adam, or Michael, the chief of the angels.
Mormon Alert - non provable using Bible:
D&C 27:11
11 And also with Michael, or Adam, the father of all, the prince of all, the ancient of days;
Indeed, Adam was very special and very important. Before coming into mortality, he was known as Michael. The Prophet Joseph Smith clearly identifies both Adam and Michael as one and the same person, an angel, the chief angel, or archangel, of heaven, the special servant of God and Christ.
We know and testify that mighty Michael foremost fell that mortal man might be, and that “the Almighty God gave his Only Begotten Son” (D&C 20:21) to ransom men from the temporal and spiritual death brought into the world by this fall of Adam.
The relationship between him and the first parent on earth, the father of our bodies -Adam is our father-can be read in the 107th section of the D&C. We are told there that a few years before his death, Adam gathered together his posterity, who were in the faith, (some of them went out of the faith) but all those who were in the Lord and were high priests, met in the Valley of Adam-ondi-Ahman, and Adam arose in the midst of the congregation and blessed his children and predicted what would befall them to their latest generations, and the Lord appeared and He blessed Adam and said, "See, I have placed thee at the head; a multitude of nations shall come of thee, and thou art a prince over them forever." And they called him Michael, the prince, the archangel. That was his station before he came here. When he came here as Adam, he was the son of God, and God was over him and he, Adam, prayed to the Eternal Father as we do. I merely mention that because there are some disputes in regard to the personality of Adam before he came into the body. The Lord said he was Michael, the archangel, and He, the Father, set him here at the head of His race to which we belong. He is "our father, Adam," and as Adam's body was of the dust of the earth, this earth on which we live, it had to return to dust because of his transgression. -

I'm still unconvinced we've actually been there. Call me sad, deluded, tremendously sexy whatever, I just have a few issues - let me list them for a giggle.
1/ Where are all the funny shots? If I go somewhere worthy of pictures I spend a good deal of effort pillocking about. I want to see astronauts pointing at the earth, white suited michelin men gooning around - that's what I paid for (well you yanks did.)
2/ When I get myself x-rayed I wear lead clothes - they were sitting in a full on nuclear blast that never varies in intensity. There nuts must have been deep fried.
3/ When I wear blow up clothing I get quite hot. If I tried that sort of behaviour in the dessert I'd sweat to death. The moon receives lots more frying per bacon rasher than normal. No cooling system in the universe could stop that. Hmm maybe I'm revealing too much here.
4/ Who took the film of the lunar module taking off - not only is it fairly ludicrous (no exhaust flame) but totally smooth and in shot. Anyway my math's crap but it seems a bit bizarre to need a rocket the size of Lichtenstein to take off in and yet on a moon with a 1/6 of the gravity you can take off with a couple of firecrackers and a trailing fart. Are they saying that if you'd revved up the lunar golf cart and made a small ramp they'd have taken off?
5/ You spend billions to get to the moon and you take the cr*ppest movie camera you can buy from Walmart so your great moment is shot looking like its in a snowstorm. Next time you go there is an unimagineable improvement in camera work - oh yea we got the second camera from Sony, and we remembered to bring color film. Blehhh.
6/ Currently we have a larger than hopeless ability to land objects , by parachute on the surface of Mars using all the advanced tricklery pokelry that is available now. In th elate 60's , in just a few years they put together a solid fuel rocket and got it point perfect onto the moon's surface - avoiding the potential for landing on powdered rock that could be meters deep, all in 'real' time - without any great hitch :P
I'm waiting for the japanese satellite pictures -

Only spirit anointed can commit the unforgiveable sin
by anewme indid i just stumble onto something here?
wasnt jesus and the bible speaking to the anointed when it warned against sinning against the holy spirit?
how can those of us who have never received the h.s.
-
Qcmbr
I think you'd be committing the unpardonable sin if and only if you actually knew that Jesus was the Christ (ie you were beyond faith) which implies you have met Him?! and then knowing exactly what you were doing rejected Him - ie saying that His suffering on the cross was not acceptable to you ergo - you don't desire anything He had to offer. I don't think there are many people who can actually commit this sin but at the time there were plenty of people.

Would God permit nuclear war?
by JH in.
by nuclear war, i don't mean 2 bombs like in japan back in 1945, but something much worse, like half of the population of the us being destroyed in a nuclear conflict.. probably jw's would say, no to the question because they think that their work of salvation is soooo important that god wouldn't permit their destruction..
-
Qcmbr
I agree with Trevor on one point.
If we are to believe that we have free agency then yes God would allow a nuclear war. The critical question is 'would we allow nuclear war?'
God's 'job' isn't to stop death and destruction - making up responsibilities for God is something that people who want to blame God for their own failings/feelings of helplessness. Passing responsibility onto anyone but themselves is a real problem in society.
When we kill the last pandas, tigers and elephants it wasn't God who did that, when we wreck the environment with pollution that's not God's doing, when we ignore the majority of instructions in the bible and then whinge about our crappy lives that's not God's doing, when we vote for politicians who are as corrupt as we are that's not God's fault, when we invent nuclear bombs and drop them on each other that isn't God's fault either.
Until we stop looking to the heavens for some divine intervention to sort out our mess we aren't going to solve anything. If we want to graduate from the school of life we have start being responsible for our own lives. If you hate the idea of nuclear war, vote for anti-war representatives, join Greenpeace, do all you can in your community to avoid inflaming nationalistic feelings and hate and then for good measure get yourself an evacuation plan and food storage in case the worst happens and your not at ground zero.
I've seen miracles happen but they always came when people were acting for themselves and doing something about their life. Its far easier for God to steer your course when your moving than when your sat on your pooper. -

Katrina - Churches have proved their worth.
by Qcmbr inlooking at the katrina cleanup and care package it seems to me that churches have once again proved their worth if for no more than to act as shelters, rallying points for those wishing to help, donation gathering places and places to receive counselling and a shoulder to cry on.
.
i've just been reading about the vast efforts made by religious organisations and to me all the criticism of religion must be balanced by its ability to gather like minded, generally good, people together united by a common ideal (if not doctrine) and doing great things.

You Aren't Good Enough to Spend Time With Us, But Your Money Is Just Fine
by Scully inam i the only one here who has non-jw and jw siblings who exclude you from "family" social events, but see nothing wrong with asking you to contribute a significant amount of money toward gifts for jw parents who instigate your exclusion from family social events?.
quite frankly, i'm pissed off about this most recent request and i'm planning on ignoring it.
why should i give $200 of my hard earned wages to people who won't permit me in their home or speak to me?

My first impression was to feel just a teeny bit of the outrage but then it got me thinking.
They reject you due to stupid watchtower rules - but there is no reason to reject them as you don't play that game anymore. They don't love you less, they just are confused by silly manmade ideas, you shouldn't love them less for their acceptance of a silly doctrine. Maybe you should give the money / gift just because you still love them despite the WT. One day they may open the door to you again - it would be a shame if there was another door there that you made.
..then I got thinking some more. I'm a blinkin hypocrite since my Dad doesn't 'really' talk to me anymore (lives in Australia, hates my beliefs, picks holes in me whenever we do talk etc..) and I avoid all contact where possible ( I don't read his few vitriolic letters either) and I actually want that barrier there - I'd really be happy to never see / hear from him again.
I guess its totally your choice - do you want to feel love for them or are you happy to keep that door closed..
