I attend a Pentecostal church, and I speak in tongues. I was never prayed for, nor was I in an excited emotional or mental state when this event happened about six months after the Lord saw fit to save me. I have only spoken in tongues during my personal prayer time, and it usually occurs when I am in deep intercession for people.
My church allows for speaking in tongues, and for interpretation of what was said in tongues these occurances are very rare. It is more common to have some give a word of prophecy (not necessarily foretelling), or wisdom during a worship service. These occurances happen in English, though there has been one or two uttered in Spanish.
My personal view on speaking in tongues in the public worship setting is similar to Paul's. If and when they occur they must be interpreted, and what is said must never contradict the Word of God.

The Gift of Speaking in Tongues?
by Maddie inwith the increase in evangelical churches there seems to be a lot more emphasis on the practise of "speaking in tongues".
i quite like the way these churches conduct services, with live music and great singing.
it is so different to the kh meetings and like fresh air.

JaMarcus Russell - Oakland's Budding Genius Quarterback
by snowbird ini watched him on tv yesterday as he quarterbacked the raiders/chargers game and was proud of the way he handled himself.. my interest in him is due to the fact that his grandma - who watched him while mom worked - lives down the street from my brother in mobile, alabama.. he's a fine young man, and i predict great things for him next season.. sylvia.

He may be a good QB, but he plays for the Raiders. The black hole of the NFL (no pun intended). The sooner he gets out of the organization, the better. Just look at Randy Moss.

New England Patriots
by XJW4EVR inok, now that this team has gone 16-0, the pressure is going to be turned up an infinite amount of notches.
good luck.
as for the surviving 1972 miami dolphins, guess you have to keep that champagne on ice a little while longer.

BTW, I'm not a Patriots fan; I just love to see good football. -

BSG meaning Battlestar Galactica. Being on Christmas break, I have had some time on my hands, and I have watched most of the new Battlestar Galactica series. Watching it has taken me on an interesting quest, and I have discovered that the producer of the original Battlestar series was Mormon. His Mormonism made its way into the show. It is also interesting that he chose to combine these influences with Greek mythology. This has led me to an interesting idea, and I would like some input from some of the more well-read members on this board, as to what mythology would best combine with JW doctrine?
My first thought was Roman, however, Roman mythology is too closely tied with Greek mythology. Any ideas? -

WTS response to 9/11
by Robert7 ini'm sure this has been discussed in length, but i'm a newbie :).
one item that really shocked me, back when i believed this was 'the truth' was the lack of response to the 9/11 attacks.
as all of us, we were really shocked and really were looking for comfort at the meeting (school/service meeting).

I had heard rumors of how the WT$ responded to the people leaving Manhattan. the following Scripture came to mind when I heard about this:
“You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
(Matthew 5:43–48 ESV)On this principle, the WT$ fails miserably, as they have always taken care of their own, first and foremost.

Sparkplug,
Though life has placed me on the fast track right now, always remember that you and the old gang are always on my mind and in my prayers. Perhaps some day, and some day soon, we can all get together and hoist a few for old times sake, and in memorial to those that preceded us in death.
I wish you all the best in the new year. -

Is their any hope for the Muslim religion?
by free2beme inas much as i hear people say the muslims are peaceful and the extreme nature seen on the news, like what happened today in pakistan, i wonder if there is any hope for them.
have they become so polarized in the power of hatred and revenge, that there is no hope?
can they find peace, or are they just destined to just fight and kill themselves from one generation to another.

Would You date a black man or black woman?
by Save My Soul inmy sister-in-law is recently divorced and went to a witness online dating site.
she mentioned that many of the witnesses specified that they wanted a white or latino only.
of course there is nothing wrong with this (personal preference), but i found it interesting.

Yes, I would have dated a black woman when I was single, unfortunately the opportunity never materialized. I have no issues with race or ethnicity.
