well, my brother and his wife came over to my parent's house to visit today while i was home.. to make a long story short, while my brother and his wife were chatting with my mother in the living room, my 1 and a half year old nephew reilly walked into the kitchen where i was making a caesar salad.. he walked over towards me and was smiling, how can any normal adult resist the innocent smile of a child who is your relative?
i picked him up and gave him a huge hug, and told him i loved him.. as i was holding my nephew in my arms, my brother walked into the room.
he was smack dab in the middle of an in-depth conversation about jehovah with my mother and his wife, and i admit i was rolling my eyes listening to him spew about the "truth" and "the only means for salvation in the last days of this wicked system" even though when i confronted him with info on the un, blood, russell gravesite, rape changes, exclusivity, etc, he had no response for me because he was dumbfounded and lost for words.
((((((((((((((Jason))))))))))))))
I'm so sorry. Regardless of what your brother says you just KEEP ON HUGGING your little nephew every chance you get. Even if it's when Brother isn't looking. You are well aware of the life that little one has ahead of him. He is going to need all that he can get.

all slopes come to abrupt ends.
and i thought a certain horde of vulgar regulars on this site hit bottom recently.
the slope seemed to abruptly end.
Hello Everyone,
I believe the use of profanity is a double-edge sword. Some like it, some don't. When I started lurking, I remember reading a thread that was loaded with cuss words. I thought "wow" these are "regular" people. Well, as much as XJW's can be "regular".
Now, I certainly don't think that people should lace their posts with profanity for no particular reason. It does have a tendency to distract from the message. However, I begin to roll my eyes whenever I read (and I paraphrase) "But, What will the newbies think"?! in protest to the sometimes strong language used in this forum.
Witnesses that are turned away by the language are really looking for ANY reason to justify remaining within the Borg fold. If they are truly looking for information regarding the dirty underbelly of the WTS they can see through the language. Many of the witnesses I know, and knew, CUSS. And I'm not talking an occasional "damn". I'm talking the full line of "vile" profanity available.
I certainly knowledge that a JW newbie would most likely find some of the language here, and particulary in that thread, shocking. I think the free nature of this forum, itself, is shocking to a witness. Especially after reading the WT mind rot for years and having to watch ones back in regards to everything they do and say. But, PLEASE, they hear profanity all the time! Was it just suddenly as XJW's some of us came into our swearing skills? Nah, they were honed with all the wonderful association of Jehovahs Witnesses, themselves. For me personally, my JW Father was a master, and as his daughter, I learned my lesson well.
As for the particular thread noted here. It's intent was to be humorous. I thought it was hilarious! After what that disgusting cult, dressed up like religion, did to my family, quite frankly, I think it extremely appropriate the WTS have language inserted that expresses the true meaning of their sick, twisted, dogma. If laughter heals the soul, well, that thread was good medicine for me.
Here's where I suck up to Simon:
You have to be the most even tempered human on the planet(or you drink alot of beer) to keep such a level head when it comes to this forum. Thank you for all the excellent work you do running this place.

ive recently been in contact with a couple of ex-jws that i knew in my childhood.. what has surfaced is the amount of fear that we experienced as young children when we were involved with the witnesses.
i accept that children often do develop irrational fears as part of growing up, but what i am talking about here is a deep-seated fear of being harmed.. many young children that i grew up with in the witness religion were of an unusually nervous disposition.
i recall how when i was first taken to meetings that i found the whole experience somewhat sinister and strange.
Being the "unrighteous" child that I was, the one outstanding memory I have is that I was suppose to be DEAD by now.

i have finally gotten around to giving a cursory synopsis of my story, life before and after being one of jehovahs witnesses.. it contains the "f" word.
i have thus placed it into the adult and disagreements forum.
i have also placed it there since there are people who do not like my philosophies or what i write.
If Sirona has a problem, it certainly isn't her IQ. I do believe she is a member of MENSA.

((((((((((((((((((((((((((Moe))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I'm so sorry Moe you have had so much crap dumped on you in such a short time. Life really sucks sometimes, doesn't it? You really have had some big bombs dropped on you as of late. Brace those knees hard and, for your daughters sake, you can carry the burden.
Yes! You do have friends here! And if your daughter is the thread that you have to hang on to, so be it! I understand completely what that is like!
And feel free to vent away here. We care.

My local paper, The Desert Sun, ran the AP story but did not run it on their website.
I emailed my Letter to the Editor yesterday. I have sent letters before on other topics and they have always been printed. So, I'm hoping that this latest one will be printed also.
If I get the phone call to confirm from them, it means it's a print.
Crossing fingers.

the fake precision fallacy involves making a claim with a mathematical precision that is impossible to obtain.. he does this on his site where he starts with an alleged and unsupported figure that the watchtower has a file of some 23,000 child molesters and runs that figure up to the point where it becomes absolutely absurd.
his purpose is to persuade readers that jehovah's witnesses are a hot bed of child molestation.
the problem is that he starts with at best very dubious sources and then he takes this data and treats it as if it is precise and factual.. it is not unusual for many of us to use a frivolous "false precision" in making statements.
I also believe that this is more of an issue of how the society handles the situation when a molester is discovered in their midst.
I just recently learned of a family member being molested by a fellow JW(an elders son to boot) which is also a family member. Were the parents instructed to call the proper authorities? Was there any concern for the victim? No way, baby!
She was told to keep her yap shut and let the elders "handle" it.
Yes, my state has manditory reporting laws, FYI.

i sent it to kent.
the only thing that kept me going was the thought of what my suicide would do to my children for the rest of their lives.
i finally got the courage to seek help for that depression, and im fine now.. alanf and gedanken (two of my good friends) helped me out, and i am most grateful for that.
Happy Belated Birthday, Farkel.
You old fart!
Enjoyed the post.

Considering the nature of your experiences, it is my opinion your use of the "F" word Hyghly appropriate.
