Yeah the "software" or controllerless modems are a pain to get working in linux. But if you're not hindered by dialup like some of us here, you can always get a real cheapo external modem for faxing. There was a company (linuxant) selling drivers for connexant based modems too.
I used knoppix (a gnu/debian based distro of linux) for a bit but think I'm going to try MEPIS next.

Quite a few of us canucks here (many, like myself, are in Ontario). I think just posting whatever's got you a little down will be very therapeutic. A huge booster is seeing how many people can completely relate to your situation.

Identity theft sucks. I've had my personal info stolen twice. Once from my old univeristy's database of alumni (they keep nagging us each year for donations) when someone nabbed many of the credit card numbers on file. The second time when a bunch of computers with a whole whack load of personal data (including social insurance numbers) was stolen from the professional body to which I have to pay annual fees.
Long story short....there were three credit cards in my name out there that weren't actually mine...I now have no credit cards and still am getting my claim processed by TransUnion here in Canada.
You might want to do what I did to make shopping easier. Get yourself a bank draft for X amount of $ and put that amount on a prepaid credit card like the platinum Visa card.

I can relate to the stuffed up sinuses. I've got a combo of sinusitis and deviated septums. There's a few quick fixes but by the time you go to sleep you can't breathe at all. The only long-term so-so remedy that I've found that doesn't make you dependent is the simple saline solution spray. Later

Since I don't know any greek, hebrew or aramaic I was wondering how Jacobovici et al reasoned that "mara" was "Master". So the first part of the inscription was Greek but then they'd have to read the latter part as aramaic and an truncated or abbreviated form of the word they'd like to infer. Not so straightforward a reading it seems. Of course going with the simplest reading wouldn't help them any.
I was curious about their evidence but the more you look at it, the more you see how they try to "spin" parts of it and disregard other parts of it.

You're so right about the poor quality of their "case". Like trying to link the Mariamene ossuary to Magdalene by resorting to a passage in the Acts of Phillip. Yeah undeniable and obvious link there
Besides I might be wrong but wasn't the Mary being mentioned in that work Mary of Bethany? They also report the inscription as saying "Mariamene also called Master". When it looks like the "Mara" (they say means Master) is actually a short form for Martha.
Then there's the continuing disappointment with they're trying to connect the James ossuary to the site. Their website says the ossuary that went missing supposedly wasn't inspected for inscriptions or decorations, but its dimensions "generally match" that of the James ossuary.
Uhhhhh huh. I take it the measurements aren't such an exact match then. The initial catalogue entry also seems to indicate that hte missing ossuary didn't have any inscriptions on it.
