do you think it's possible to fall in love with someone online?

assuming they give you a real picture of themselves and are honest about themselves.. is it possible to love this person before you meet them?

i'm not talking about the kind of love you share with your friends, i'm talking the real deal.

Blast you all for bringing up these topics! Now I have to tell my story instead of packing up and cleaning! Oh well....In order to truly understand some of my personal info, you'd have to read the threads about my story on the "Dr. Nicolosi and Homosexuality" thread, and the one on "Couples Leaving Together". I don't want to write a book (yet;)), so I'll try to keep this short--but it may sound a little weird.

After my husband and I left the borg, and decided we weren't going to stay together (he's gay), I put an ad on Yahoo "Married Woman Seeks Passionate Friend." I basically wanted to meet some people to experience things (sex) I didn't have the chance to when I was younger. I mentioned I wasn't cheating, and that I was in a unique situation. Needless to say, I got some interesting results, some quite nasty.

After meeting in person 4 guys from the internet, I had pretty much decided I'd had fun and had accomplished what I'd wanted (sex with more than one person--I didn't want to meet someone right after my husband and CONTINUE feeling like I'd "missed out"). In February of 2001 my boyfriend Jonathan (bodhibear420--he's new here) wrote to me, and we corresponded long emails for 3 days, and the next 3 days we Instant Messaged for about 3 hours and sent emails. He decided to come visit (he was going to college about 7 hours away), and we met on a Friday night. He even got to meet my husband that first night!

Anyway, we met and were only apart a total of about 7 hours(he visited family) until he left Sunday night. The rest is history--I moved in with him about 4 months later, and we moved to Rhode Island together in January of this year. I think the internet can be a great forum to meet people, but you do have to take precautions just like you would meeting someone any where else. Verify, verify, verify! It worked for me, and I'm grateful HE found ME, because I have a history of picking gay men!

Migraines anyone?

yesterday (memorial day) i awoke to a slow, dull, thudding headache.

it wasn't terribly bad...i ignored it really.

neil fixed me a brunch of bacon and eggs and we sat down to eat around 12:30 or so.

Hi everybody,

The suggestions for avoiding triggers like MSG and chocolate are great. There are definite links in food for some people. However, I do want to ask something--So many here have listed drug after drug, although nobody has said that they've gotten rid of the migraines. If you're tired of popping pills that aren't good for you in the long run anyway, please try Chiropractic care. Bodhibear420, a new poster, is a Chiropractor, and he would answer any questions if you'd like to learn more.

I've been getting adjusted about once a week now, and although I'm not a migraine sufferer, I do have a lot of mood swings and it's helped me tremendously. However, I do know many who've suffered from migraines who no longer have them--no pills involved.

I just thought I'd share, because it seems that some of you are suffering needlessly. Hope this helps,

Your View On Capital Punishment

we all know the bible's view on capital punishment.

in fact, in the 1969 edition of aid to bible understanding, the author notes the following: .

"the value of life is considered so sacred by god that the blood of a murdered person is viewed by him as defiling the earth and such defilement can be cleansed only by shedding the blood of the murdered.

Great topic! I'm still somewhere in the middle on this one, because I would like to think that simply by "an eye for an eye" the murderers and rapists would be gotten rid of. However, with the way our justice system is, and with DNA testing now, there's too much evidence that many INNOCENT ones have been killed. I agree that our justice system should be over-hauled, but my personal viewpoint on whether or not WE have the right to determine if someone else should live or die is kind of muddled. Why is it ok to kill others at war, and then not ok to kill someone for murder? Isn't murder the same, unless it's in self-defense? Hmmm.....it's definitely gotten my mind spinning.

how much trouble would it be for him to bring a rain in colorado to stop the fires and save the houses of those people?

Thanks, I'll have to side with you two. Why continue putting faith in a "God" who has allowed thousands of years to pass where millions have died--just to prove he's right?!? Sounds sick to me! I prefer to think that WE have the capability to change things, and that WE choose how to live. By letting go of the fear of being JUDGED (hell, armageddon etc.), we move forward in life and truly treat others how we'd like to be treated. And it's based in true love, not fear of being punished. I ALWAYS HATED the perpetual feeling of never being good enough.

I am sorry that you are in the worst part of the situation right now. And like Mulan said, what works for you may be different than what worked for us. I would like to say this though, if it helps at all: No matter what, life is much better once you're out! It's not easy, because you have to learn how to deal with a whole new set of problems (LIFE w/o the borg!). But in the end, it's better because you're FREE to think and choose what's best for you.

I hope you can learn how to have the PATIENCE to deal with your wife and family, because that's what it boils down to. Pay attention to the things your wife and children say that bother them, because it will show the cracks in their beliefs. Ask for help, anywhere you can, and try different things to break through to them. When something doesn't work, try something new. And definitely learn from those who don't make it out together--you don't know how things are going to turn out, so just DO YOUR BEST.

I was the wife who cried for many months also, but thanks to the patience of my now ex-husband, I am free. I honestly doubt I'd ever gotten out without his help! If you feel strong enough about your relationship with her, keep up the effort. If she is like ANY of the jw wives I know, the things that may get to her more will be on how people are treated. The injustice got to me way before I even allowed myself to think about doctrinal issues; and when I finally did, that was the end for me to see the lies in their own literature.

More Buddhists than baptists (and Jws)

the results of australia's last census were released yesterday:.

the figures indicated a continuing decline in bible based religions, especially the anglicans and the uniting church.. and most spectacular was the growth of those who said they were buddhists.

at the last census (1996) just under 200,000 identified as buddhists.. now, 360,000 say they follow buddha compared to 310,000 who claim to be baptists.. and interestingly, there were 83,993 jews, which contrasts with 95,473 hindus.. islam had 281,578 followers.. the jws- well!

Hi Singsongboi,

I would have to agree--I'm sure that Buddhism would make Australia a pretty good place (much better than a bunch of jw's!). I'd love to see how it affects crime rates and the general empathic feeling towards one another. Their whole philosophy towards life and the way we treat others leaves much to be desired amongst most religions. I can't wait to visit someday!

i was going to respond to isps topic on preventing homosexuality dr. j nicolosi, but due to its number of responses, decided to start a new topic.. nicolosi's comments were prominently referred to in the three 1995 awake!

articles about homosexuality in the "young people ask" section.

i had just come out recently and read the articles.

Thank you for sharing your story, and for exposing Dr. Nicolosi and the wts for their underhanded and untruthful tactics. It's such a shame that they try so hard to make everyone just like them--unable to love others unconditionally.

I love posts like this one, and look forward to more. BTW, I posted my experience of being married to a gay man for 8 years on the other thread. I learned a lot about unconditional love during that time of my life--and we are best friends still! (sorry if my story is long, I've led an eventful life!;))

Of course we value our life--so much so that we've found ways of taking it to even higher levels! Not all "drugs" are addictive like alcohol, cigarettes, heroin, coke, muscle relaxers, sleep aids, pain medication etc. Maybe you should research what they do before you assume anything, especially if you got your info from our gov't.

I'm sorry you had such a rotten experience! I too think it was either laced, or just didn't jive with you personally. I've never been around ANYONE who had an experience like that, and wish you could have experienced it for what it truly does.

I finally tried pot a couple of years ago, and we all laughed and laughed and just had a great time. Yes, I got the munchies, and would even feel tired. Now I'm a lot more experienced with it, and have reached a whole new level of understanding as to why so many are daily users. One of the biggest problems for me upon leaving the borg was not being able to think for myself, let alone out of the "box". Smoking is an aid for me to open my mind and THINK!!! I too at times would get paranoid--but the point is to keep using your brain and reason your way out of it. It is not addictive, and it is far less worse for the body than alcohol and cigarettes. I even did research on it and found that the studies that tried to say it caused cancer used subjects who smoked cigarettes--go figure!

I also tripped once, and although that freaked me out a little more, I realize now that maybe I wasn't quite ready mentally. You have to have a certain understanding of what the drug does and what your body is capable of doing, and being so new in the "world" at the time, I wasn't quite ready. I saw my boyfriend's face morph into a very old man, and young again, and then turn into creatures from Star Trek etc. I sat there deliberately and made myself watch it, because I knew it was my mind doing it. And that was a major breakthrough for me! My boyfriend kept wanting to get me outside, but I wouldn't go past the porch because I felt like the porch was caving in! The only thing that was missing from the experience is that I didn't get to hear music--our computer was down at the time and we couldn't play anything! By the end I was exhausted though, and ready for it to stop so I could sleep. I would like to try it again, and I would definitely like to try shrooms.

I tried X one time, and although the experience was interesting (I kept wanting to rub a friend's bald head), I probably won't do that one again. I did a little research on it and didn't like the fact it harms your body, compared to other things that don't, like weed.

Francois, Invisible, D. Wiltshire, Bono, Harmony, Valis, Plmkrzy (and anybody else who wants to join in!).--me thinks we need to get together sometime and have a smoke! Maybe a smokin' apostafest? ;)
