  Your relationship with Jesus Christ

  what kind of a relationship are we suppose to have with jesus christ?

  That's a great question. As a JW, I had a very arm's-length relationship with Jesus. I couldn't pray to him (though I MUST pray thru him -- made for some strange mental pictures!), so I couldn't really have a relationship. I mean, it's bad enough that god doesn't talk back. But if *I* can't even talk, what exactly do we have that passes as a "relationship"?

  So when a JW quits and becomes another sort of Christian, that must be quite a change.

  I had a very personal relationship with Jehovah, like he was a father/friend. I remember imagining sitting in his lap, and also hugging him. Is THAT the sort of relationship you now have with Jesus?

  i remember about twenty years ago some teenagers were caught fornicating in one of the additional schools.

  the schools were downstairs, essentially separated from the rest of the kh.

  they weren't just happened upon, though.

  One congregation I attended had terrible old sound equipment and it would occasionally pick up broadcasts. I don't think it was just radio, more like CB or something more one-on-one, since that's what it sounded like. Right in the middle of the meeting, there'd be some good-ol'-boy talking to his buddy over OUR speakers.

  She believes in god's organization?!? I'm getting a divorce!

  i never thought my live & let live attitude on religion would have screwed up things this bad.

  i'm trying to help my wife find her way out, but i spoke with her tonite & she really believes in the "organization".

  can i, in all honesty stay married to someone who essentially knows the bible, has read john 14, but believes the organization is your only path to salvation?

  I do hope the best for you. Just don't act rashly, or out of any perceived threat to your spirituality. Even if you see the Watchtower as Satan's Own Playground, know that she doesn't see it that way and you aren't in any spiritual danger from her or it.

  You said she had doubts? But now she's mentally gung-ho? She may just be in that back-and-forth state people get into when their facts and their beliefs don't mesh. More time might yet wrest her from the Watchtower.

  they can't just say:" that extra meeitng sucks", or" nobody really wants to have the bs in their house", or "we want to keep a closer watch on you guys".

  so, what reason will they give?.

  I'm thinking they want that time filled with something else -- family bible study is my guess. "You have no excuse not to do it, we're giving you this time previously open for the meeting. You made the meetings, of course, so now take that time to strengthen your family."

  It serves the purpose of more intimately indoctrinating the kids. It also allows the "barely-hanging-on" folks a little breathing room. Maybe if it is slightly less oppressive to remain a JW, more people will choose to do so.

  That's my almost-surely-wrong guess.

  Your marriage isn't about religion though, is it? Do you love each other?

  There are successful couples where one member is a JW. And there are unsuccessful couples where neither are. If you've got a good relationship otherwise, I'm not sure that this should be the deciding factor for you.

  The ones where opinions can be tossed around are always popular, particularly if they can't be proven wrong. So speculation threads, political threads, religious threads all work.

  Sex threads work because... well, 'cause they're about SEX.

  And I think there's a fairly thick feeling of "family" here, so any thread that gives everyone a warm-fuzzy feeling is probably gonna fly.

  Threads that typically DON'T do well:
  1) Threads about your favorite penny
  2) Threads asking about a particular person
  3) Threads with poor/misleading titles

  seems like the more contentious discussions on the board just go around and around the same tree.

  those who have faith in god are delusional, simple minded, or even mentally ill...?.

  those who don't believe in god are narrow minded, 2 dimensional, and are missing out on something great...?.

  It seems unlikely to me that people love conflict. I suspect there is another motive underlying it.

  People like to be right, and like other people to see that they are right. Without someone wrong to compare against, it's hard to see just how right they are. Maybe that plays into it? Conflict, as a necessary evil to display a person's right-ness?

  Or the less-arrogant version -- a desire to correct those that are wrong, ostensibly for their good.

  What -- you think I'm wrong? You wanna fight about it?! ;-)
