certainly, in these end times, we may encounter individuals who do not heed the counsel found at 1st wlg, 3:13. yes, that is correct, as apalling as it sounds...they do the unthinkable.
they drunk post.. many of us have been tempted, nay, stumbled into the sin of drunk posting.
but there are those among us who have traveled the dark path, and from them we learn what not to do.

i need some help on the holy trinity.
my husband is studying with the witnesses (he's not one of them yet), and is totally buying into the idea that god, jesus and the holy spirit are all separate, not (as i've tried to explain) separate, but also one in the trinity.
i have pointed out the scriptures in john that reference god as the word, and then jesus as the word later.
This is a particularly difficult one, as there are scriptures to support either position. It's a question of which ones you "read" and which ones you "explain". The long and short of it is, I personally think the trinity isn't a game you can win. You may not lose, but you can't win.
Is it possible to not work that one over too hard, and instead work on something that's more provable? The blood issue, maybe?
For some, seeing that the Watchtower intentionally misleads people into accepting their position is enough. Their blue book, "Life, How Did it Get Here? By Evolution or by Creation" is filled with out-of-context quotes that amount to lies on the part of the Watchtower.
Good luck!

the topic: jehovah's witnesses, harmless religion?
there were a small group of ex's that had been invited by a local church to speak of their experiences as jehovah's witnesses..............god it felt sooo good to tell about the unbiblical practices of shunning and disfellowshipping, of the cult mentality and the wounds so many ex's carry from the legalistic mentality and behavior.
the two books crisis of conscience and in search of christian freedom were shared with all present..........about 30 to 40 people.
Innoculated the whole group against ever accepting a "Bible study" from the JW's -- nicely done!
Alex, I don't recall any biting stories, but everybody seems to have heard stories about smurf dolls marching around, particularly marching out of the kingdom hall. (Funny, no one ever questioned where they went from there. Did they march to the ocean and drown? Why wasn't this on the news?)

Sylvia, I don't know where my stuff comes from either. I suspect Hillary_Step has a theory or two involving body cavities, and that's probably where the smart money is.
Sorry if I misrepresented you.

>> I hope that given Snowbird's clarification, that you can now see where you have taken the wrong road in this debate.
Yep. *bows to HS*
Ever notice that crow tastes like chicken?
>> may be what is ACTUALLY going on in snowbirds head, but is it clearly not a position she is admitting to.
Interesting. I don't think I've ever taken BOTH sides in a debate and still managed to lose. But then, this WAS a religious discussion, so anything's possible, eh? (Even me admitting I was wrong)
Thanks to all for a lively and enjoyable discussion.

well i need some advice.
i am 32 years old and involved with a guy who is 25 years old.
he is is super smart and very responsable, treats me with loads of respect and we have a really good connection.
I think it depends on your definition of "working". You're only 7 years his senior -- hardly a cradle-robber!
Like any other relationship, you both have to ask what exactly you're wanting. Was it his life ambition to have his own children? You've got 3, and maybe you don't want any more.
Do you want to be married eventually? How do you define "eventually"?
Needless to say, you don't need to answer these questions here. But this is the sort of dialog you have to have with yourself, then with him. But maybe not necessarily this very minute.
How long have you been involved? He knows you have kids, he knows your age, so it's not like you're hiding anything from him.
Have you two already discussed this, maybe even just lightly?

>> Lay faith and opinion aside and read what Snowbird has actually written.
Just for a second, imagine that the position I outlined is the one she actually holds. It is a strange position to be in, isn't it? Loving and worshiping a god that other people are calling "monster" because he did things that are monstrous. You know he did them. You know they are monstrous. But you still love him.
WTH?
So you try to rationalize it. He didn't kill ALL the babies. Yes he sent the bears after the boys, but where were the parents? People could've chosen to become slaves to Israel, they didn't HAVE to die.
To me, those sound incredibly hollow. But they aren't Snow's reasoning, they are her rationalizations. She is essentially saying, "I don't think I'm qualified to judge god's actions. So I won't. But if I DID, I'd say...." Everything after "But if I DID" will likely contradict everything before it. That's ok, so long as you understand that everything before it is her actual position.
You're treating this like some sort of court hearing. "You CLAIM you aren't judging God, but do you deny having said, 'God is righteous'? Do you?!?!?" Snow's not being interrogated, and there's no value in water-boarding her into picking one of the three items on your menu.
Her position doesn't exactly make sense, at least not to me. That doesn't make it NOT a position.
Why is it of value to you to say that her stated position is invalid and she must pick a different one? (If your response is, "I told you her stated position, I quoted it to you" then you don't understand her position.)

>> Once you claim that God always does right, it is IMPOSSIBLE to abstain from condoning his recorded actions.
Unless I misread Snow's position, she doesn't claim god's always right. She claims that she's not in a position to judge whether or not god's right. She referred to the possibility that god may have multiple personalities, so to speak, that may do unrighteous things.
This is slightly different than others that say, "Everything God does is righteous and it's not my place to tell him it's not." She isn't asserting his righteousness, but rather her lack of authority to make the assertion.
Hair-splitting? I don't think so. But even if I did, it wouldn't matter. It's HER position, not mine.

http://www.reexamine.org/.
yikes it sure has changed.
Looks like the domain name wasn't renewed, and so got picked up by ZTomy.com, a search engine-ish sort of outfit. They wrap a search page around a domain so it looks like it is about something, when it's really just search page.
