james never showed up...because...he quit.
the joke is that anyone who sits next to me quits because they can't stand my constant babbling.
it's certainly true that everyone who has sat near me has resigned.

I had to wonder as I was reading MC, just how much "truth" did Col. North manage to work into the story?
Mike.
i think this is a question worth considering - just how extreme will witnesses become?.
first, the hierarchy: there are numerous accounts stretching back for years of gb members skipping meetings,.
ignoring field service and treating "vital" doctrine in a cavalier fashion.
The leadership is well guided by lawyers who veto anything too foolish.
However, the rank and file and local elders are another story....
You gotta remember that they don't come right out and say do or don't, but it's always worded in such a way that the dubs know what the direction is.
I can't see them going out on mass shooting rampages, but I can certainly see them taking some kind of action against "apostates" if the right "direction" came out of New York.
Mike.
one of the cornerstones of jw's is counsel.
they just love to give counsel and many times they will literally make things up just for the sake of counsel.
i was once counselled for joking around too much.
Oh man where do I even begin to start?!?!
I got a lot of counsel from the platform or in comments made during the meetings. Though my name wasn't mentioned, the Gestapo made sure talk went around to everyone that it was me they were talking about. Reading Hot Rod Magazine, (and I mean the one about CARS!), talking about cars in field service, attending quick-builds that were not in "our area" -- that elder stood up there and emphatically said it was NOT to be done but I went anyway, going out with other dubs to eat after conventions, reading comic books -- they actually made my best friend get up on the platform and talk about how he used to read them but it was wrong so he stopped.
I'm sure there were plenty other "sins" because for a long time I was in the back room with the Theocratic Police just about every Thursday night but I really can't remember them now. Which I guess is a good thing. I look back at that now and all I can do is shake my head and laugh a little. How insane can you get when you've got to try and control when and where someone can Serve Jehovah (tm) or when it's not acceptable to go out for Good Association (tm) ?

.
and, in your crank news update for this week, here's a very interesting little article...it seems bogus to me, but the question had to be asked by somebody.. i know that there are a few people on this site who will take this ball and run with it, so to speak, so tell us what you think.. my personal theory is, won't the plutonium on galileo be dispersed by it's re-entry into the atmosphere long before fission can take place!
but, i'm no nuclear physicist!.
Yawn. We're gonna die....We're gonna die.....
Yawn.
I need another beer.
Mike.
well here is the start .
if your name is not on it then either it wasn't on the old texas map or it wasn't added to the previous list so... .
if you want your name added please say so and let me know what state you are in.
Well you can put me right smack dab in the middle of the great state of Georgia. I live about 15 miles from Badolputtytat and about 70-80 from Francois. (and way too far away from Stinkypantz!! )
Mike.
i remember the worst garage sale i ever went to.
i walked into the back yard, and i saw nothing outside, and the car was parked in the garage.
the man who was holding the yard sale asked "is there anything you're looking for?".
LOL @ Trey and Joanna! So true!
Once in a blue moon I may stop at a garage sale, but haven't in years.
My Granny Eleanor and her sister Aunt Merle were yard sale junkies. (I think I've told this one before). They and the same group of little old ladies in Perry would hit yard sales as soon as they opened. They'd be poised at the yard as early as 7 am. They'd buy a bunch of stuff they never used or wore. A couple of times each year, they'd take all the stuff they bought and have their own yard sale. I came to learn that this was the practice for a lot of the yard sale'rs. All this stuff was just bought and sold over and over again. There were even a few who'd have a yard sale EVERY week. The city council got tired of the traffic problems, not to mention the fact that basically they were running a business with no license and no taxes paid, and passed some ordinance limiting how many times someone could have a yard sale in a year.
Insanity.

Met, I've wondered that myself. They only have two options. Either "mainstream" or become even more hard-line. We have to wonder, with lawyers running the show, which way they'll go. Remember that these lawyers are Jehovah's Witnesses and considering their behavior in past court cases, such as suing a molestation victim for legal expenses, if they do go more hard-line I for one will be very afraid.
We're talking about a group of people who already take great joy in the fact that their god is going to whack billions of people, including children, simply for not even knowing about him. I wouldn't put anything past them.
Mike.
yes, the bbc has reported on this earth shattering debate... does a ducks quack echo or not?.
listen to the report here:.

Thanks Elsewhere! I feel so much better now!
Tell me, are they going to finally answer the question of whether the refrigerator light really goes out when you close the door?
Mike.
p.s. just kidding with you. I remember hearing something about a duck's quack not echoing before but never thought much of it until I hit this thread. Pretty cool I thought.
in the world today (especially in america) we believe that we can do what ever we want or will to do, but god still rules the universe, and according to his word there are some things that we can not do.
unless god wills!
i thought i might list a few things that (unaided by or apart from god) we can not do.
Like I said, you're not proving me wrong, and what I think doesn't really matter. But if God is the sorce of all that is good, wouldn't that make them (the agnostics, atheists, and various other non-christians out there) self righteous?
I wasn't trying to prove you wrong, just to disagree. You seem to be a pretty cool guy to disagree with so whoever said the "t" word, hey give the guy a chance.
How would it make a non-Christian, atheist, or agnostic self righteous? If they do a good deed, it can't be automatically said that God caused them to do it. What then would be the explanation for the mistakes or even crimes in their lives? Whether created with it or evolved with it, humans have free will and the ability to both understand and to choose good or bad.
