Construction of the Ark took over 70 years, mostly due to the legal battles and financial difficulties.
Before construction even began, Noah faced repeated challenges to his zoning application by local residents opposed to "big box" ship-building as well as lawsuits filed by animal-rights activists claiming that the construction site was destroying the natural habitat of the kangaroo rat.
During most of the construction period, labor problems constantly plagued Noah's family business. Early on, workers unionized demanding higher wages, better retirement, and health insurance. About 10 years into the project, Noah was forced by King Carterchadnezzar's administration to provide set-aside contracts for minority subcontractors. This resulted in the union going on strike, protesting the loss of jobs to non-union workers.
As time went on and the ark construction's financial difficulties worsened, Noah and his sons asked for the first of many bailouts. Appearing before a Senate committee headed by Strom Thurmond, Noah warned of the importance of the ark to humanity given the threat of impending global climate change.
During the Great Recession of '29-'42, The Ark became a symbol of international controversy. Linked to the collapse of several banks, it received more bailouts under the outgoing administration of King Bushan of Ur, then received 710 billion shekels in the Stimulus Decree of King Barobama I. Critics such as the noted philosopher of the time, Rush Al-imbah, organized protests and petitioned the King to "let the Ark fail" and pointed out what they perceived as Noah's wasteful spending of bailout money on frivolities such as a large private zoo.
Finally the Ark construction went into bankruptcy protection, right as work was completed. Soldiers under King Barobama II attempted to seize the completed ark but according to documents uncovered by a Freedom of Information Act at Area 51, some sort of natural disaster occurred.
Last week, Citizens Against Government Waste uncovered an earmark of $10 billion in the Stimulus plan that continued funding construction of the very same Ark, although it is estimated that construction was completed over 5 thousand years ago. The earmark was placed in the bill by Senator Ted Kennedy, and represents an increase of 25% in funding that apparently has been provided since 1962.
some witnesses are making sure they're ready for the great day.
i've heard certain family members are getting supplies ready including 5 gallons of water, cans of food that can be opened without a can opener, and other "survival" stuff.
they have figured that since the awake (i think) reported how the "friends" got ready for hurricane katrina, they too must be ready for survival when the storm of armageddon rains down.. what will they think of next?.
Probably Stoops Manufacturing.

Oh good grief! They have no clue.
Maybe they should start walking in field service with a fully loaded LBE vest, combat load of magazines, rifle, sidearm, and a full camelback hydration pack. Then again, the ACU and boots are much more comfortable than the FSU (Field Service Uniform).

other than the protests of the tree huggers, i can see no reason [outside of current political thinking] for us not to get this resource working to both 'stimulate' our own economy and to short-sheet the arab greed that holds us ransom.. i am no geo-scientist, but this seem unbelievable.. jeff.
The bigger question is when is OPEC going to start whining for a bailout now that the hyperinflated prices of last summer have crashed back to a level the market is willing to pay?

Wow! JWD has changed for the better I see.
Let me clear something up for someone who mentioned "assault weapons". A semiautomatic rifle with a pistol grip and detachable magazine is NOT an "assault weapon". I have an AR-15 with a pistol grip, collapsing stock, and a vertical foregrip. Oh my! Mine must be REALLY "assault" since it has not one but TWO pistol grips! It isn't an "assault weapon" because it only fires once per pull of the trigger.
A true assault weapon has slightly different internal parts and a receiver that is machined differently to house them. Those extra parts allow the safety switch an extra setting, and that extra setting is fully automatic. Without those extra parts (the auto-sear, etc.) an AR-15 is no more deadly than any other semiautomatic rifle that shoots the .223/5.56mm round.
It is true that in the U.S. you CAN purchase true assault rifles. An M-16/M-4, of which the AR-15 is the semi-auto only civilian version, manufactured before May 1986 can be purchased after undergoing a background check, obtaining a letter of permission from your local law enforcement, waiting several months, and paying a $200 tax. The price of an M-16? At least $15,000. Then comes the cost of maintenance. M-16 auto-sears are considered "machine guns" in themselves, regardless of whether they are in a rifle or not, and as such are prohibitively expensive when purchased legally. Ammo will cost more, because when you flip the selector to "rock and roll", you will burn through ammo quickly.
i posted a while back about enlisting in the georgia state defense force.. http://gasdf.com.
all my paperwork went through and i was sworn in at the final formation of today's drill.. 2nd batallion, 5th brigade.
a cwo told me he wants me in his platoon, so not sure if i'll be 1st or 2nd platoon.
Ninja, that's as difficult as some of the scenarios posed during today's classroom training.
For one thing, under current orders the GaSDF is unarmed. We're limited to non-combatant ops.
But as you say, I'd uphold the Constitution. That was part of the Oath I swore today. The Second Amendment is every bit as much a part of the Constitution I swore to uphold as the rest of it.
The military and police in New Orleans during the aftermath of Katrina were ordered to disarm the citizenry. That order was later subject to many Constitutional challenges which I personally agree with. A federal law was later passed prohibiting any further such disarming.
I wish I could just come out and give you a patriotic answer, but I can't. What I can tell you is that I'm not alone in my pro-2A stance and that there are officers and NCO's who may suffer temporary blindness.
Additionally, we are not Federal. Our Commander in Chief is the Governor of the State of Georgia. Not President Obama. Take that as you will.
A tire is a tire. Depends on what you want from it.
Coopers are decent tires. Like any other tire, don't exceed the speed rating or load rating, keep the wheel alignment in proper specs, maintain proper inflation, and keep them rotated. I've seen ultra-bargain Coopers exceed their mileage rating before thanks to proper maintenance and application.
Most important thing is to buy your tires from a shop that doesn't change "best tires in the world" depending on how much commission is paid.
