  WHICH MEETING WAS THE MOST BORING?

  the more meetings you go to the more drivel you hear.

  elder's meetings were terrible because all you ever did was gossip about how everyone wasn't doing this or that.

  meetings for field service sucked.....enough said on that.

  All of them,but if I have to choose one,I would say the District
  Conventions,these ones where always held in the middle of summer
  over here,and the weather was always unbearably *hot*.
  Does anyone remember that those DC's had four days with three
  over two hour long sessions for the first three days?Pure torture!
  The crap started thursdaymorning at 10h until 12h,then 14h until around 16h,
  and to top it off 19h until around 22h.
  Did I mention it was always *hot*? No wonder.Those "worldly" halls
  were not meant to accomodate over 10.000 people huddled together on
  cheap folding chairs (Tied together by a long steel rod
  because of security regulations) with no air regulation to speak of.

  (I did mention in another thread the sorry state of the toilets over there.
  The food is another thing worthy of a thread on its own.)

  The BORG changed it to a three day,two sessions affair in the
  mid seventies,but it was still three days too much...

  This can't be such an unique situation in Belgium :-)
  I mean,did'nt you have long waiting lines at the toilets?
  Of course I described the situation how it was more than twenty years
  ago.maybe it has improved now,with toilets that refill much quicker
  and more of them than just ten or fifteen,as it was in my time...

  The horror!
  Having to wait for up to half an hour before finally being able
  to "download" your package into an available receptable.
  (I'm trying to keep this subject somewhat clean,hence the eufemisms:-)
  When finally entering the private enclosure;you find brake marks
  from the previous "download",and the cistern still refilling so that
  flushing is impossible for the next 2 or 3 minutes,and the seat still warm.
  If you're really unlucky,you'll find the ultracheap toiletpaper roll
  (You know the kind) is nearly used up,and no replacement in sight.
  Or all the toilets for males being reserved for females and you have the
  honour of using a trenchlike system constructed in such way that you
  sat on its ledge while doing your business and using a faucet to flush,
  and if you sat near the end of the line you had the pleasure of seeing
  the products from other brothers drifting by.
  No wonder I did my best to postpone any "downloads" until home at last.

  Anyone else with toilet horror stories at JW-conventions?

  Passing time at assemblies

  1. see how many words i could make out of the assembly theme and/or yearly text.. 2. try to guess which section would have the next person get up to go the the bathroom.. 3. stare at cute guys.. 4. get up, pretend i was going to the bathroom, roam the halls and stare at cute guys.. 5. try to see how long i could hold my breath.

  being counted away,Yes! another minute gone,59 to go.
  -- pretending to go to the toilets,and just going outside.
  -- Taking notes,or pretending to,but actually solving logic puzzles.
  -- During watchtower study,putting the awake! inside it and reading
  that instead of the WT-article.
  -- Watching sparrows flying through the hall.
  -- Mentally undressing that sexy sister,sitting a few metres away from me.

  Another favourite one of them is "Theocratic".
  If you did something that another JW considered it to be wrong,
  they called it "Un-Theocratic".
  Because it was "Un-theocratic" I threw away my collection of WW2
  model airplanes I spent many hours on in assembling them.
  But it was "Un-Theocratic" to have such things in the house according to my
  older brother and mother,so in the trash-can they went,all 12 of them.
  Later on that same brother and me visited another JW,who had in his attic a
  model reconstruction of the Allied Landing in Northern France,complete with
  tanks and soldiers and whatnot,it left me somewhat confused why this was not
  "Un-theocratic" but at that time I did not dare to speak up...

  OOBE, lucid dreams and astro projection

  i waas reading janh post on the chemicals in our brains relating to various phenomenon.

  started to think about the subject of astro-projection, also known as out of body experiences and even sometimes called lucid dreaming.. this is a cool site i found on it...... .

  I started to have these in my early teens,and being already firmly entrenched
  in the JW-teachings,I tought I was being harrassed by demons and such.
  I can clearly remember "levitating" above the bed I was sleeping in,and
  then waking up scared.
  I never talked to anyone about this at that time,I did not even *know*
  about OOBE,never heard the term before,but when I left the JW's and started
  reading esoteric and occult literature,it became clear what I had experienced.
  To me this is proof enough that these things have a grain of truth in
  them,I could not have made this up since I did not even know
  what to call it at that time.
  It now happens rarely and I don't have any need in forcing it.

  in my time as jw there was at least one urban legend that was very popular.

  amongst jaydubs.this was about the dog named "jehovah" by it's jw-hating owner.

  so that when he got visited by them once again,he could shout "jehovah,attack!"..

  Another popular story was the one about the three JW doing fieldwork
  in a country where JW's were forbidden.They walked through a forest
  when a thunderstorm started up.One of the JW was killed by lightning
  and when the other two searched his belongings,it turned out he was no
  JW at all but a government spy who worked himself up within the JW.

  How nice,Jehover who zaps a spy to protect his flock,
  but he can't be bothered to give childabusers the same treatment...

  panorama prog., the producer admitted on sky television that she hated jws.

  During my years as a JW I also did not hear anything about pedophiles but I saw
  alot of childbeating and thought this was normal because they could not sit still
  during the two hours of boring talks.
  I mean,children were dragged to a seperate room,(Jokingly called "The Torture Room"
  by many in our congregation)to get a serious beating and/or
  to be placed in a corner as punishment.
  The way they treat children and this whole pedophile covering up business is somehow
  connected,so I am not too surprised at what Panorama has dug up...
