first i just want to say how much this forum has helped me.

i get on here every day and read what's new.

i am 27 years old and have been married since i was 18 (since there isn't anything else for a good sister to do besides get married or pioneer and i wasn't about to pioneer.

First of all welcome EMTmom! Keep coming here for support, I'm a newbie here also and I have litterally had my "eyes oppened"....about the things I had only suspected were wrong with the borg and much more, I'm so grateful to have this place to come to to help me sort it all out.

I've got to tell you I am shaking after reading the letter wrote by Amazing on the site you posted. Wow, now I have a better understanding of what happened to my family (kids) I gave them the permission always to question and never to be judged by their questioning in their early teens they all pretty much chosed to leave the borg, I remember thinking WOW their arguments were so valid.....secretly hoping in the good christian way that maybe they would come to their senses and return and yet also glad that they chose to leave the borg, talk about a confused Mom! sheese! Now they say, "it's about time you came to your senses Mom", anyway we are all still in a way sorting out the whole mess and I think it's time for me to order some books, do some reading and try to figure out this whole "god" thing......does anyone have the answers?

Also how would I go about emailing Amazing? If you read this Amazing I would love to talk to you I have so many questions........

Any Funny Virgin Honeymoon stories?

anyone have any funny virgin honeymoon stories?

none here- but my brother & his wife- both good witnesses got married- didn't get to complete the act for 6 weeks- his wife had no idea he was so big- and kept crying & was afraid.

just another "well educated" witness girl.

Not virginal, but a true story none the less:

On my wedding night, after my hubby chased down our bestman and ended up punching his lights out to get him back into the car he was surposed to take us to our hotel, he was too drunk so we took him and his girlfriend home to his parents house so they could deal with his drunkeness. HA!

We dicided not to go to the hotel but to our house where our "friends" had totally destroyed it thinking we would find this funny at 1 am.........we went to find a hotel now and EVERYTHING in three towns was booked up except we found a Travel Lodge on the corner of the busiest intersection in that town and across the street from a huge Babtist church.

Stage set......we were by no means virgins and yes we did get married in the KH! So here we are in the only room available which happens to be above the inntakers room, ugh! This was my first time staying in a hotel, yes at 17 years old my first time (I was a hotel virgin I guess) there were signs all over the room on every door, the closet door the door to the bathroom and the door going out of the room in huge letters CHECK OUT TIME 12:00 NOON! In big red letters! Man what happens if you're late? Do they shoot you or something, anyway a little to late and a little too much champagne it impressed on my mind.......

Oh the mushy stuff, my only comment was FINALLY!!! we don't have to sneek....we can lay in each others arms and just enjoy making love, and a crumby ceramony and a little piece of paper made it all ok, legal! What a crock!

Sleeping in in the morning........we hear this loud gong,gong,gong a never ending gong,gong,gong.....I jumped up outa bed running around the room looking for clothes, yelling at my hubby we have to go it's checkout time, he jumps up we throw on clothes, throw our stuff in suitcases and jump into our little VW bug and off we went down the highway where we see the time and temp sign bleeping 9:10 AfreakinM! It was the church bell ringing! We both looked at each other and started laughing so hard he had to pull over to the side of the road he couldn't drive. Humor saved our marriage for the next 30 years, he was a fun guy!

Hey Perry I hope you exercised some of your demons writing it's really good for the soul to just write it out. I'm sorry you have those memories, those dissappointments to contend with.

When I read what you wrote I couldn't help but wonder to myself........myself I said, where were you all those years? I went to all the meetings, assemblies and such, but fornunately (although I remember feeling very guilty at the time) I was too distracted to listen or learn either what I heard or read. The first and informative years, heck I was just plain too young to care, I just wanted to play chase with the boys after the meeting, my teen years.......lol, pretty much the same only I wanted to play "get caught" with the boys after the meetings......then the last 20 years I spent chasing my own kids at the KH, just to darn busy to pay attention and learn. Why did I even go?

Like I said it is really good to write it out, I just learned that I don't have to feel guilty for not knowing what the heck everyone is talking about, this prophsey, that bible scripture, sister blank did blank to brother blank, who cares life will just keep on keeping on if I continue to breathe, simple eh?

How Common is this amongst JW's?

i found this material on a pro-jw newsletter, and i've had this personal experience myself and know many others who have also.

before i became a jw i experienced a tremendous amount of "love" from the congregation i associated with, but once baptized they leave and move on to the next potential convert.

as a single person, i was never invited out to gatherings very much and always felt a little left out in the very clique-ish congregation that i attended.

Witness teens /mental health probs in future?

there was a very interesting programme on radio4 this afternoon-dealing with teenagers and their possible problems.. i feel that many witness teens maybe heading for mental health problems due to the issues raised today.. we all know that jw teens are encouraged by the society to follow the leadership of the org.regarding the problems they may face during this difficult time.. the society has made it seem as though it is facing these problems by producing books and magazine articles especially for teens; but how useful are they?.

apparently to grow a healthy teen you need many things.see if you think the points i remembered(there were many more)could explain mental health problems for witnesses in later life.... 1.it's not rebellion that makes a healthy teenager; the most sucessful ones question and are allowed to question.. 2.in doing this they 'find' their own wat in life and learn to be comfortable in their own skins.. 3.teenagers understand the world and how to survive in it by exploring it in their own way.. 4.telling a teen 'these are the rules you should follow' make for unhappy teens...and unheathy mental health.. 4..when parents realise that a teen is preprogrammed to need to discover who they are; they can stop taking it personally and remember that the teen has to find their own path for their own mental growth.. 5.stunting a teens natural tendancy to 'strike' out on their own actually harms their coping abilities in the future.. 6.teenagers who have not been allowed to follow their own thinking for a while end up not having enough self esteem to even start thinking about theses things.this is where the problems start.. they will lack the life coping skills that other sucessful teens have; they will be more prone to depression; self harm;mental illness and suicide.. .

self harm is a classic example of a teen who has'nt questioned and therefore has'nt learnt to cope on their own, mentally.the cutting satisfies and releases feeling that are incommunicable due to repression in those years.. so please; all you witness parents- just because your child want to question, don't think they are rebellious in a bad sense- if they do question it proves you have brought them up well so far.don't spoil their future mental well-being by stopping them on their last stage of growth in to adult mental health.. let them question and speak openly without fear of reproach from you;help to set them up for adult hood..

Hi Radiolady it was nice to meet you in chat lastnight. I understand your concern with your daughter and as I read some of the things you wrote about her I couldn't help feeling like maybe you could be missing the obvious, is she using drugs? No, not Zolof but street drugs. Her actions speek volumes to this....sleeping all day, no motivation, wired (sometimes) at night which by the way she can work at night just fine seems to have the 'energy' to do that. The thing that jumps out to me is her reluctance to actually get somekind of help, might just be afraid that her drug use would be found out about or she would have to fess up to it.

I don't suggest at my questioning you about this you go and acuse her of using drugs, but just do some investigating yourself and when you are informed, and satisfied either that she is or isn't you can go to her with what you know. If indeed this is the case, I also suggest you get some help for yourself, Tough Love is a good orginazition. Read about addictions, a good book I highly recomend is Melody Beaty's book Co-Dependent No More.

My sincere hope is that she isn't using drugs, and in any case it would be advisiable that you do come down hard on her and give her a timeline a definate date one that is reasonable in which she can get herself together and on her own. You may have to help her with this financially and even in the planning stages, but make it a goal that you stick to.

Great to hear from you Laurie. I've heard so many abuse stories from "sisters" that it sickened me then, and now to have it finally exposed in such a public way helps me and yet I still feel sick at heart for the soul murdering that has gone on for far too long. I wonder how the Society feels now with this abuse exposure on the heels of the Catholic Church scandal....sorta lumping them in the same mire as their arch enemy! How fitting.

BTW I've left the borg long ago, too many lies, too many cover ups that touched too close to home for me to be able to excuse or "pray" it away sometimes you just 'wake up and smell the coffee' and the stench makes you LEAVE!

I've been shy to this board (a lurker for months) but this is a subject that just won't allow me to keep silent. My heart goes out to all those of you who have been victims and I sincerly hope that you will find stength to carry on, to put it behind you and NOT let what 'happened' to you define who you are as a person, because I truely believe everyone can continue in your heart where your soul left off and become whole again.

how do i shut a j.w up?

i know many j.w's and they are allways hassling me with there beliefs and making me feel pretty hacked off at times,is there anything i could say to shut them up or any good questions that they don't like being asked,i assume there are a few ex j.w's on this forum so you must have come across some tricky questions before,hope someone can give some advice?thanks

depression

is it true statistically,j.w's suffer from depression far more than the rest of us?

In the physcio-babble world depression is anger turned inward. Hummm all those talks, WT studies ect...on how we are to be loving to one another, long suffering yadda,yadda,yadda....in otherwords we were all taught to "stuff-it", to not feel what we feel, hear what we hear and see what we see or to speak about it. Depression is taught in the orginization, then we are to rely on Jehovah and his orginization for help when they haven't a clue the brothers are trained to help us with our spritual matters not our emotional problems. And then of course you are taking a big chance if you go for outside help, yeah right! It was there that I learned how to deal with my anger, that I was intitled to be angry I was taught to deal with it in a safe, legal and constructive way. What a relief! I understood fully the scripture (sorry no Bible handy) and this will be a bit of a hatchet job on the scripture...."not to let the sun set in an angry state", I can't remember all the rest of it, but it no where does it say that we shouldn't get angry as we were taught by the society. Anger handled in safe, legal, constructive ways for you and others brings about emotional health. Think about it then get angry! LOL

Where Do I Go Now?

with all the problems in the 'truth' and all the things that we know are wrong with it there seems to be aspects of their theology (i.e the sequences of the world powers, statue in daniel, the promise of world restoration again found in daniel) that to me still make sense.

although i cannot follow a religion that believes in the destruction of all humanity barring those that respond to their own preaching work i still believe in a creator and cannot accept the teachings of other religions that have no purpose for the earth and believe that mankinds only destiny is in heaven.

my mind keeps telling me that if god was behind a religion it would be so much better than that of the jws.

Hi Individual,

I too am struggling with the same things. So much of what I always thought was true seems to be tarnished by the evil dealings of the Elders whom I was lead to believe Jehovah chose to do his biddings and shepard the flock here on earth. Well why would he choose such corrupt men and why not clean out the congergation from the top ranks down. I just don't get it, it must not be the true religion if "God" isn't directing it. I'm tired of the lies and the gossiping ect...
As far as what the Bible says about the end of the world ie Armegedon and only those few faithful will survive, be resurected ect...why would those of us who were stumbled by corrupt men Jah has appointed to shepard the congergation be innocently destroyed? Hey at least we had the balls to get out and away from the badness in the congergation. But now what? I donno, still searching my heart, still wondering what it's all about, the injustice of it all is overwhelming to me at times.
This helps to come here and at least sound off, hope I don't get too noisey! :o\
