Make up: Love it or loathe it?

i have just gotten around to taking off last nights trowelling and what a relief that is!

i rarely wear make up - maybe once a month, so i probably go over board.

i feel like my skin just suffocated for 24 hrs.. what do you love or loathe about make up?

What do you love or loathe about make up? Are you an addict? Would you never leave the house without your armour? And guys (who aren't trannies) do you like women with or without? Have you ever woken up to the face on the pillow and not on the woman and been a bit turned off?

(I need a hot bath to end this very long session and to eat as its been a day or two.)

I usually don't feel dressed unless I've got my makeup on. I use mineral powder as my foundation and love the way it evens out my complexion. I wear less make up now that I'm older than I ever did when I was young. Just tweeze my brows, powder, blush, some mascara and lip gloss is all for me most days.

I have gotten into the habit lately of doing way too much around the house and needing to get to work in a hurry so I take a quick shower and moisturize my face and go to work without any makeup on and I must admit it feels freeing! Also good because no one sees me at work as I'm mostly alone and I know absolutely no one where I live so I could care less who sees me!

The girl next door (well accross the street anyway)

i went to this party/ social function last night (i am trying to get over my social anxieties) and i ran into a witness girl who use to live accross the street from me.

we started catching up and low and behold both of us are no longer in the cult.

she stopped in 02 me in 04 (i guess that makes her a lil bit wiser than me.

Would you allow your kid to do a really dangerous sport?

i'd like to get your thoughts.

we are torn parents.

having both been raised jws, we said that we'd allow our kids to do what they wanted to in sports.

What do we do? Stop riding, and spoil dreams? Keep riding, and risk wheelchair/death? If something happened, I could not live with myself.

As a parent I totally understand your fear and concerns. I had my kids involved in everything from horseback riding, snow skiing, water skiing, rock climbing, surfing, scuba diving, hiking, BMX racing and motorcycles of all kinds, oh and skateboards those little things are really dangerous!

All I can say that I learned as a parent is yes they will get injured and maybe not participating in said sport but just walking across the street! You really never know and you can't keep them in a bubble, darn!

The best thing is to make sure they are fully aware of the how's and whys of every sport. That they wear all the protective gear available and have first rate instructors!

Then the hard part as a parent is to not let them know you are fearful, they will have their own fears to contend with and if they even sense you are fearful they will be concentrating on YOU and not on the task at hand. One of my kids coaches told me this and to always send them off to have fun! Do not show your concerns or even voice them except to maybe tighten up the helmet a bit and give 'em a pat on the rump or if no one is looking a hug.

Out of 5 kids one broke both arms skateboarding and one leg too and not at the same time. He also broke his wrist falling off a wall. He also knocked out his front teeth playing tether-ball. Oh vay! Let see a couple of sprained ankles with two of the kids, they are as bad if not worse than a break imho. Some minor stitches from goofing off, can't remember how that was done but nothing to worry about.

Seems to me if you get them up and raised out the door on their own the worry doesn't stop there and then they go and add to it with their own kids (grand kids) who are off and running as well.......sigh it never stops and life is messy, you just hope for the best and if you're lucky (yes I said lucky) all turns out well and no one is worse for the wear, maybe a few shattered nerves but that's doable.

Hope your kiddo has lots of fun on the horse. I used to love riding horses myself and got thrown a couple of times barely missing a bolder with my noggin once, *ouch*! But it didn't stop me from riding I just held on tighter! LOL

this may have been a topic before.. i got the idea for this from crumpets thread "if i could make your dreams come true what would they be?".

i have been asked many times "if i could go back in my life and change it, what would i do?

If I could go back I would have followed my rebellious teenage heart and completely left the B'org as way back then I thought it was a load of crap, but I didn't want to disappoint my parents.

I have many times asked myself that question and it always comes back to those early teen years, if I had followed what I wanted to do in my heart I would have gone on to a higher education and been in the business world, if only.......

for me it's having a strawberry margarita.. it's re-freshing and it puts me in a good mood.

Freedom of Speech

my family has had an interesting evolution over the past few years of being exjws.. as jws, it didn't even occur to us to use profanity or vulgar language.

jehovah's witnesses don't speak that way - at least that's how i was brainwashed to believe - although i knew plenty of jws who do.. once we started experiencing the real world, it no longer seemed like such a crime (or sin, to be more precise) to say the occasional word that might get *bleeped* on tv.. after a while though, it grew old.

i started to feel that it wasn't my nature to talk that way, and using that language was not conducive to who i wanted to be as person and a professional.

Imagine my surprise when one of my kids recently used a whole string of those expletives during a bit of a tantrum for not getting their way. Well, I wasn't really surprised - I just didn't expect it to start this soon.
Anyway, when I attempted to calmly explain my rationale for not using those words in our home, I was told by my teenager in no uncertain terms that my teenager could speak in that manner if they so desired, because they have FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
So, how does one go about teaching a teenager that Freedom of Speech has limits?

You maybe could explain to your teen that with FREEDOM comes RESPONSIBILITIES and that as long as you are the one RESPONSIBLE for their well being Mom and Dad get to choose what kind of language is appropriate and acceptable in your house. When your teen is 18 and on their own in their own home they can use their new found FREEDOM to talk however they want. Nuff said.
