  Headcoverings, Goals & Women's Roles

  i have always felt that requiring sisters to wear headcoverings was assinine.

  jehovah won't strike you down for not wearing a headcovering".

  word gets back to the co on his next visit that i don't let sisters wear headcoverings at the bookstudy when they read and he reams me out for it.

  It's so incredibly sad that this organization wastes so many talents because women are 'kept in their place'. I still think that part of the reason I got DFed was because I voiced to the elders that women were not used to their full potential in the congregation. The five elders on my judicial committee were all over the age of 60 and BOY did I get the looks for that!

  I too have conducted Bible Studies with a Kleenex on my head! Haha! It was sooo humiliating that I learned to carry a scarf in my bookbag just in case. I really did think I was sinning by not having a head-covering. Now it just seems so ridiculous! That along with so many other things I did that were ridiculous!

  I thank God daily that I am not involved in this organization!

  I was never molested, but I had two elders that were family friends that approached me in a more than 'sisterly' way.

  One elder was one of my dad's best friends. To this day my parents refuse to believe that Brother Frye was doing anything more than hugging me. Hmmm - do all elders hug with their tongue rammed down someone's throat and their hands up the girls shirt???

  The other elder was the husband of the sister I studied with when I was fourteen. Brother Park approached me as I slept on their sofa during a visit. This sister later wisened up and divorced him. She had to step down as a RP and will never be able to marry again, but thinks that's a small price to pay to NOT be around a pedophile. Again, my parents refuse to even acknowledge this happened. They say that I had a crush on HIM and led him on. Whatever...

  My parents refusing to acknowledge these incidents is what's most hurtful to me. Not that those two men approached me.

  greetings and felicitations to all,.

  tonight i attended my first al-anon meeting--it's for families of alcoholics.

  i've been having trouble with my daughter and drugs.. but anyway, the meeting was in a catholic church area.

  Acck! I've just recently found this web-site. What a wonderful feeling to converse with other ex-jw's! But I am also a grateful al-anon! I smile as I write this because I am surprised (again!) how God blesses me everyday with meeting people that KNOW and UNDERSTAND me - without knowing me!

  I truly believe that if I were still pining to be a JW that I'd see nothing but the curses in my life. And realistically I do have some. But being out of the WTS has given me a new outlook. Yes, I have lost my family, childhood friends, and childhood for that matter. But today I have so many blessings! I have a great job, a wonderful circle of friends, a new church that loves me, and now new friends her on this board. It all depends on what you focus on.

  Thank you all for sharing your hearts. God is good!

  friends, my heart is a little heavy at the moment.

  someone i met on witnet last year is having struggles.

  i will not reveal his real name or location, but suffice it to say he is going through the worst of it now and needs your prayers or buddhist chants or whatever.. a little background, he first wrote me the below post, which i saved because i thought he had balls to write and question me, and i was a little paranoid, wondering if he was witnet thought police.. but, i sensed something different about him, that he really needed to ask questions.

  Please tell him there are others that have gone through what he is experiencing. That we are here praying for him even when we can't do anything else. Jehovah is watching over and caring for your friend, even with him questioning and doubting. Just remember that God is patient and wise and loving - He's big enough to handle being questioned. He smiles when he answers us. Please let your friend know this!

  QFR Confess to Elders?WT June 1,2001

  in view of jehovahs willingness to forgive sins by the merit of the ransom sacrifice, why is it necessary for christians to confess to the older men in the congregation?.

  as can be seen in the case of david and bath-sheba, jehovah forgave davids sin, grave though it was, because of davids genuine repentance.

  That's funny...

  When I was 19 and had sin in my life I felt moved to confess to the body of elders. When I did it I was disfellowshipped for being unrepentant of the sin. Ha! Why would I even GO to them if I was unrepentant??? I did feel bad about what I had done and STILL got the boot. That's Christian love for you!

  May I preface this by stating that I'm not being accusatory in any way! Here is your quote:

  Do you feel YOU brought in around 50 people into the JW organization? Isn't that similar to the story in Numbers 20:10 where Moses said, "Hear now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?"? Are you taking credit for bringing these people in? If so, what happened to Moses when he made that statement above?

  the following is the tail end of a email i recieved tonight, another sad story, yet the pain goes on as you see from the way she ended her post.

  this person mentioned they thought they were alone untile they read the victims page.

  do you know how many times i have heard that statement?

  okay...i have a 19 year old brother that was born and raised jw.

  he's currently a regular pioneer that is 'hanging out' with a sister that has a worldly reputation.

  he hasn't gotten into trouble about it yet, but i anticipate it happening soon.

  What is so sad is that my kid brother is an amazing human being! He's gorgeous, incredibly smart (top 2% of his class!), and has a heart of gold. I want him to come live with me, but not sure how to broach the subject. I don't think he'll come because he won't want to leave the girlfriend, whom I have ABSOLUTELY no objections to! She's a doll. Worldly, but by those standards, still a sweetheart!
